We were remarkably lucky to be staying only a walk away from this restaurant. We stopped by for dinner after spending the day at the Bay of Fire. The restaurant had only been open for a couple of months at that point.
We found the restaurant to be beautifully decorated. It offers the option to sit inside or outside in a covered patio. We took advantage of the outside option, which was quite crowded, but not loud. As the evening wore on it got a bit cold and our server offered us (and everyone else sitting outside) large blankets. It was a very nice touch.
The dinner menu is expert-level...it includes words like 'nduja', 'gravlax', 'lavosh', 'espelette', 'shio koji' and many more. We didn't know what any of these were so we asked our server a bit sheepishly to help us out. They didn't know the answer to our first query (nduja) so we stopped there and did a bit of research ourselves. It's not entirely a bad thing but it made the experience feel less well-rounded especially since the prices are a bit on the higher end and the experience felt generally upscale.
We ended up going with the oysters, the lamb ribs, the bread, and then the 450 gram sirloin with Tokyo turnip. We paired this with a good amount of the house wine, white then red. Everything was delicious though I didn't find the steak and Tokyo turnip combination particularly compelling. We had the cheesecake for dessert, returned our blankets, thanked the owner, and went on our way. Lovely. read more
