We were rather disappointed with our degustation meal here, as well as our two night stay. We decided on this property because it was a Relais & Chateaux, photos were magnificent and because the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. When we first arrived to the room we were quite impressed. It was huge by any standards and at least 1000 ft.². Unfortunately things went downhill from there. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. They pushed two twin beds together to make up a king bed, and while that's common in Europe, this mattress was rockhard and the sheets were stiff. They provided a TV in the room and a DVD player but when I inquired about borrowing a DVD to watch, they said they don't have any. The Wi-Fi in the room was so horrible that it made it impossible to send emails or use the Internet. This is 2015 and wifi should not be an issue, especially at these prices. The electronics in the room were a bit janky too and a broken speaker drove my husband mad when we first arrived. The service was very nice, especially at dinner. We did the full tasting and really enjoyed sitting on their terrace. Unfortunately the food was rather fussy. Almost each and every course had some sort of foam on it. They should have focused less on the foam and more on the flavors of the food. The best courses were the soups, oddly enough. Despite the gorgeous setting, I would not come back here, as the food was just disappointing.

Four of us made the trek for Friday lunch. The setting is so stunning -- though it's off a main(-ish) road, the view from the dining room window makes you feel like you're miles from anywhere, looking out across their fields and a beautiful Provençal valley. The owners greet you and serve you, and they're neither obsequious nor brusque, just friendly and personable. They have a new menu every week (3 entrées, 3 mains, 3 desserts), but for Friday lunch they only have one main dish option, which is, I understand, a rotating aïoli (or perhaps it's the same aïoli every time? At any rate this time it was a very simple fish with freshly steamed or boiled vegetables, and a big bowl of freshly mixed "true aïoli" -- that very garlicky garlic-egg-olive oil emulsion -- for everyone to share). It was tasty and well-made and so simple that I wondered if I need to start giving my taste buds a break and eating more basic vegetables with little or no "treatment". We were all so unanimously enthusiastic about the experience that we reserved to come back that same evening with our whole group. We wanted to try out the full menu and a dessert that apparently never disappears off the menu (it's made in paper with almond and prune and spiced fruit) that smelled wonderful. I wondered if the charm and glow of the place would be lessened the second time, but it absolutely wasn't. Julien is such a kind presence, the food is such a great balance of simple and interesting (my dinner was much closer to the general French aesthetic than my lunch -- a chowder-like fish cassolette starter and a delicious chanterelle risotto), the setting and hosts were once again delightful, and the dessert, well... it was something very special. I recommend anyone make the journey to this great, unique original establishment if you value a complete experience, if you're looking for a romantic dinner or warm night out with friends, or if you just want to try something new.

HOWEVER, we arrived much too early for our reservation and instead of allowing entry (which I do understand, had it been explained politely and apologetically), we were looked up and down with an air of dismissiveness and told to return later. When we did return we were AGAIN looked at askance because we arrived in shorts - though we explained we brought more appropriate attire to change into as we had had been shopping in Antibes earlier in the day - and nearly denied entry AGAIN until the more senior security person deigned to approve our entry. To top it all off, I never felt welcome to enjoy anything beyond the bar and grill area, the martini was only OK at the bar, my moules were COMPLETELY oversalted (and I like salt!!) and when I told the wait person, all she did was repeat what I said with surprise and clear the table... no offer to bring a comped dessert or drink or knock some $ off the bill. All in all very disappointing. I live in San Francisco which is full of tech billionaires and yet to feel so excluded at the start of this experience and to end with such mediocre food, really was a sad thing. I would have expected more given the glowing article I had read in Condé Nast. Perhaps if you are a straight couple it's a different experience - we are two women, and the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth...

Disappointing Health & Hygiene Failure -- Management Refused to Address Medical Costs!…read more We chose the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes for its reputation for impeccable luxury and service during our multi-week, exclusively five-star European trip (09/22/25-10/10/25). Unfortunately, our stay was severely marred by a serious health and hygiene issue, which was then compounded by a deeply unsatisfactory response from management. On morning of Oct 4th 2025 my wife, Kelly , suffered multiple insect bites of unknown origin while sleeping in the bedding of our room number 724. The bites were serious enough to cause significant distress, lost sleep, and required immediate medical attention. The hotel arranged for a physician to visit, who confirmed the presence of insect bites and prescribed a course of strong medication, including Ivermectin (an antiparasitic drug), along with topical Cortisone. This required us to pay for the medical consultation and prescription out-of-pocket, expenses we would not have incurred otherwise. While the Guest Relations team did facilitate a room change, the General Manager, Mr. Charles Richez, later formally refused all requests for compensation, including reimbursement for the required medical expenses. The GM cited a lack of "conclusive evidence" (despite the documented physician's report and strong prescriptions) and offered a vague, future-use complimentary upgrade instead of resolving the current financial and physical harm. For a hotel that prides itself on luxury, this failure is unacceptable. The issue is not just the presence of a biting insect that caused physical distress, but the complete failure of the General Manager to take accountability and resolve the tangible out-of-pocket costs resulting from a health hazard on their property. I invite all future guests before choosing to stay at this hotel, to take a look at the pics taken on 10/04 and 10/07/2025 to decide themself what it looks like! Do you really want to take this risk for yourself and your family? Prospective guests should be aware that if a serious issue arises, management prioritizes denying financial liability over supporting their high-value clientele.
