Mercer Mall - mercer mall - Shopping Centers Near Me - Bluefield, West Virginia

Boy, Mercer Mall has probably seen some better days. So many vacancies throughout. A lot of the stores here are those random stores that seem to pop up when no other stores will buy space in a mall..weird and obscure. It seems like, I'm guessing to get some more supplemental income for the place, a flea market takes up pretty much all of what would be considered their center court. I mean, whatever you gotta do to stay afloat but it seemed a bit odd. The entire mall had that really old, kind of moldy/mildewy smell to it. There were a couple times where the smell was literally starting to turn my stomach. When you think of dying malls, this place is absolutely what would pop up in your mind..it's literally dying and rotting. Even the nicer stores that were still around couldn't escape this smell. There were, surprisingly, a decent amount of people there though. And to it's credit it seemed like the main anchors for the mall were all occupied..albeit some with some non-traditional tenants (Hobby Lobby, something called Rural King, etc.). The food court is pretty desolate. There's a Chick-Fil-A (of course), a couple other random places, and a couple sit down restaurants in the general area, but really nothing that great. Maybe the locals still like this place and will keep it open. But in my experience of checking out dying malls, this one is probably one of the roughest I've seen. read more

I came to this mall from visiting family at Christmas 2008 in a near-by county in West Virginia to meet up with a new friend I'd made on Myspace (yeah, yeah, say what you will but he seemed--and was--very cool). Mercer Mall is pretty typical for small-ish southern malls everywhere: it's larger though than some, including a very sad little mall in Statesboro, Georgia, which I deeply pity because my friends there call it a "small" (instead of a mall). Mercer Mall, however, is alright really: I was there at Christmastime so it was decorated and festive but even without all that, it seemed like it was decently busy and there was a good selection of stores. They have a Footlocker, a Pacsun, American Eagle, and an indie skateboard shop which I was really quite delighted to see here. If I can buy a skateboard, new kicks, some tight jeans, and a couple Fox Racing tees in a mall, I am happy, really. Actually, while here, I didn't buy a damn thing though the guy I was meeting did buy me an adorable little stuffed purple rhino! So apparently small neon-hued stuffed varmits are also sold here. The main department store is JC Penny's, by the way. If you're in the area or getting off the interstate and need typical things you can find in a mall, you'll probably find 'em all here. For the size of the area I was actually impressed with Mercer Mall. Sometimes beauty and charm really are where you find them: while a mall like this is not the type of shopping experience most of us dream about, there's something very honest and warm about hanging out at a small-town mall with good friends. This is what most of America is like and what many of our youths with like growing up. And there's nothing at all wrong with that. read more

As malls in Southwestern VA go, this is pretty much where you're going to end up. It's either Bluefield or it's Bluefield, kids. All in all, it's a decent mall. I'm coming from San Francisco so I'm used to the illustrious Westfield San Francisco Centre, or I'd give it 4 stars. Lots of stores. I was pleasantly reminded of the size this past week while visiting home for the holidays. JC Penney -- sure, why not? Borders Express -- thank god, 'cause I know of no place else to buy books for miles and miles, so their limited selection feels like the Library of Congress. There's a Bible Bookstore. A Hallmark store. A NASCAR paraphernalia store. Chick-Fil-A. A cafeteria-style restaurant. A Macado's. Large (relatively speaking ) cinema adjacent. Lots of parking. Mercer Mall . . . What can I say about it that hasn't been said already. Back in the day the mall was the place to go and hang out at and was so much more lively and busy but now the mall has been going down hill slowly for quite a while now. They do a good job in decorating for the holidays and is a fairly clean. You do have some of your big name stores here, JC Pennys, Blek, Sears, American Eagle, Pac Sun, Spencers and Aeropostal to name a few. The mall has lost quite a few stores B Moss, Borders ( Really now the closest book store is Barns and Noble in Christanburg VA ) and quite a few more, thou little shops do come in and fill up the spot but are shortly lived or just doesn't have any success. A few spots here and there Gamestop ( One of the better ones that I have been to and I been to quite a bit of them over my travels) FYE, Mentioned before spencers, a skate board shop and a few other shops. The food court isn't doing much better, Where there is a K&W, Subway, Chic-fil-a, Pretzel factory ( used to be orange juilus in the day ) Sunny Days ( newer joint that sells hotdogs and a few other items not shabby at all ) Lotus Garden ( Do Not Eat Here!!! Trust me bad juju ) and last but deffiently the best there Macado's. The movie theater is just as bad as the mall, going down hill that is. Broken seats, at times the sound and screen is a hit or miss. Don't get me wrong, in a small town as here it is at least something but if you do have the time to venture elsewhere I would recommend that but need to burn an hour then stop by and see what it is about, but don't go in with high hopes and great expectations. read more

So I can remember when the mall first opened an was a state of the art 1 story small mall. Then I wathced it go down hill over the years. After coming back to vist family its back on a little upswing. They have all the mall basics...Amercian Eagle, Bath and Body Works, Footlocker and Belks. They have a cinema that could use some upgrades, but I spent plenty of time here growing up. read more

Never have a problem finding a parking place. Most lots are completely empty. Half the stores are vacant. The parking lots are in awful shape, potholes everywhere. Used to be a great place to shop. Those days are long passed. I'm shocked they are still open. read more

I hope they don't go out. It is the only mall up in Bluefield. We go up there to eat at the K&W. If they go out we would have to go all they way to Roanoke or Salem. read more
