My girlfriend had numerous counselors who did not know what they are doing, she had to take an extra summer class, had to pay out of pocket, because a counselor told her she needed it. Later another counselor asked her why she took the class because she did not need it. Unprofessional and honestly sad. You're a college how do you lack such intellect? read more

The campus is beautiful, modern and clean. The students we encountered during our four day visit were all nice and friendly. The campus was pretty quiet. Most of the students appeared to get around by walking or electric scooters. If you visit for an event taking place in the gym be prepared to take a nice little walk (the guest parking lot is not close to the gym) Cons: *Not much to do in the area *lack of variety of food on campus (there were a few food trucks on campus) read more

ZERO STARS. Took a course last summer and was told it was FREE. Dropped out because I didn't like the class. A year later I'm being forced to pay for the class AND a 'new rule' that all students have to pay a transportation fee that is very expensive $$$ even though I drove myself everyday!!! I WAS NEVER SENT AN EMAIL REGARDING THE "transportation fee". Students should NOT have to pay for things that don't benefit them!!! This is very disappointing for a junior college. Students have other important fees and shouldn't be paying for more than what they sign up for !!! I was never informed on what would happen if I dropped out. The lady I was on the phone with told me I had to drop out on these specific days for it to be free. I just wish I knew this school was a nothing but money hungry before wanting to take a class. I am a graduate of Merced College. No comparison to Cal Poly SLO where I also graduated with a BS from their School of Engineering and Technology. Merced College instructors are biased and will give you an A or C depending on how they like you. I had an English instructor black mail us to accept a B if we allow him not to grade exams. Do yourself a favor and go straight to a 4 year school like UC Merced. In the long run it's cheaper because you graduate sooner and start a new job. read more

BEWARE STUDENT ATHLETES! my son was recruited to pay football for Merced College, but decided not to attend. The Athletic Department and the admissions office made a schedule for him in an effort to expedite his enrollment. This schedule was made without his or our knowledge. Two years later Merced requested my son pay $300 for not cancelling his schedule two years prior. We explained what had occurred, but the Chancellor's Office staff was rude and simply stated he needed to pay. Merced garnished his State income tax without hesitation and refused to acknowledge their mistake. As far as we are concerned, the Merced Administration Office are a bunch of crooks and bullies. read more

Instructors in this school are really good ! The campus is pretty and clean . The only big problem there is the staff working for this school isn't great or close to good ! Don't get me wrong there's a few helpful staff . But the rest are really racist and treat you like they don't have time in there hands to help you even though that's why there getting paid for ! read more

Quality of instruction is pretty good considering the area. Prices are getting out of control, but that is not the schools fault. Before signing up for classes ask around about the instructors to avoid getting a crappy instructor. read more

First time ever here on campus. Asked for help but received little. I must have asked the wrong people for assistance. One of the staff members told me "he didn't have much time for me". He should make time for the students. If it wasn't for the students, he wouldn't have a job there. Just saying. Overall, that was my experience. I hope no one gets treated the same way. read more

Well well well. Hahaha. How ironic me writing about this place 5 years later. I did actually have to take a few classes here and honestly, Merced College is what you make of it. The professors I've had here have ALL been top notch. Challenging when need be, tolerant of all learning levels and generous with there time when it comes to helping an earnest student. It's unfortunate to see so many classes being cut, but it is what it is. The staff in Lesher building are always professional and applaud there hard work, dealing w/ literally thousands of students everyday. One place I would like to highlight is the library. The staff are SUPER helpful when need be, there's always a computer w/ in a reasonable wait even during the peak of the semester and surprisingly there is always somewhat a place to sit and spread your work. Kudos to the library. It's nice to know there is a cool quiet place for refuge to work on "your bizness" in between classes. Well that's my spiel. Just funny to look back at ponder. Thanks Yelp. I can only comment about the tennis courts at Merced College since I seem to be playing at them every time I am in town. Some of the courts definitely suck with plenty of cracks on the ground and a need for the strap in the middle to pull down the net. There are however 4 courts they are decent and there is usually a tennis group that meets out there on the weekend that is pretty nice. There arent a lot of public tennis courts in Merced so this place will do the trick. read more

Good 'ol Merced college, good times. Instead of a four year school I picked this (and it was a smart decision). The engineering and biology prep classes are good enough to prep you for a four year without hassle. After the intro courses it can be difficult/easy depending on the professor. Overall the professors were skilled, understanding and helpful, there were a few that seemed a bit bitter but otherwise it was good. The college will teach you and you will learn well regardless if you're struggling with basic arthritic or differential equations. There was also a good amount of volunteer tutors for all levels of English and math but unfortunately their hours were a bit limited. In fact, one problem with Merced college was how everything shut down on Fridays early when class still ticks on. This is especially scary during finals. The library was awesome, lots of computers, magazines and books. If you have a question the staff was endlessly helpful. The cafeteria food was okay but most of it was overpriced and if you have good transportation I'd suggest eating elsewhere. Support groups like EOPS were very helpful and offered so much advise and such to help me transfer quickly. Thank goodness for EOPS. The nurse was decent as well but a big issue was how limited the hours were. My lab experience was good, sure some of the equipment was old but it helped out big time and taught the basics. The events on campus are fun, please take time out of your busy schedule to watch or engage in them. You won't regret it a second (unless you miss a test or something). Sadly, there weren't many opportunities for internships when I went to Merced which later put me at a ridiculously massive disadvantage as a science major. When I transferred to a UC I had difficulty finding basic lab internships since I was expected to have 1-2yrs of out of class lab experience prior. What's bad enough to tick off a star was the advisors and some of the other administration staff. Not all, there were some competent (or hypercompetent) and helpful people but the weak links were awful. Some advisors offered bad course advice with this air of omniscience, so you always had to have the handbook or Assist.org in hand to prove them mortal. They'd suggest or omit courses you may need to transfer or graduate on time if you didn't pay attention. Also, some of the staff/advisors pushed particular schools, UC Davis and U Stanislaus were quite popular for example. Always look into these schools rather than blindly follow suggestions. Setting up a TAG is easy enough but many advisors won't bring it up. Ask the internet, ask several advisors and so on and you'll get the answers you need. In short, you have to be proactive and don't put too much faith in advisors. As for the administration, sometimes solving the simplest things makes you want to cry 'cause of the bureaucracy and issues they bring up to delay solution. Ex taking weeks to fix a simple mistake on a transcript or a name typo for example. read more

What makes this college amazing is the people that work there. It has good and bad employees like any other place, but there are some really special people there also. My main complaint is the campus, the campus is not very appealing to the eyes, but if your there just to study then your good to go. If you want to be successful, be aware of the student success resources. Such as the awesome library, study central, the librarians (they help with research papers specially), the library study rooms, the computer lab, the math lab, the tutorial center (saved my butt many times), and also their transfer center. My advice is if you are thinking about coming here and are serious about your educational goals, then right away look into the honor societies. Alpha Gamma Sigma or Phi Theta Kappa. Look into them!! Nothing like being surrounded by very driven smart students who want to make a difference in their academic lives and also help others. I am not a nerd, but let me tell you these have very few nerds, just a bunch of awesome people that happen to be intelligent. Also, if you want to learn good leadership skills then look into student government (ASMC). Lastly, if you are an agriculture major as I was, then I would really really suggest this college. It has a very good AG program with amazing instructors. Plus, it has an awesome AG Leadership class and a college farm to teach you hands on stuff!! I could honest say so much more, but I'll just finish with this, Merced College is what you make it, get involved, help yourself, but also remember to help others (AGS, PTK, ASMC, AG AMBASSADORS, SCHOOL CLUBS, etc...) I rate it a 4/5 for a college considering I have only attended here and at Modesto Junior College so far. read more

The website is awful, easily get lost and can not find anything you search for. I like this college, its nice in many ways. However today, the students decided to sing live outdoors. Some were decent, and ok. Some guy decided to sing Sade's 'Ordinary Love' and oh man... What a disappointment. It was so horrible.. my ears almost bled. read more
