The farmers market part is located in Sant Agostino piazza and all the vendors have stands set up. On the outskirts of the piazza are the butchers and cheesemongers, at the center are the fresh produce, dried and preserved goods and a couple florists. The produce all looked very fresh and beautiful. If I had the opportunity to cook in Milan this market looks to be a terrific resource. In April strawberries, artichokes, asparagus, a certain wrinkly variety of tomatoes, and a small cantaloupe-like melon were in season. Most vendors take cards in addition to cash. The non-food portion of the market runs along a long strip of land btwn the two directions of the Viale Papiniano road. Vendors set up along both sides and there's a fairly narrow corridor running in the middle for customers to walk down. These are mostly clothing and home goods vendors, with a smattering of shoes and accessories, electronics, toys, beauty products, casual jewelry, etc. Almost all products fall into the affordable, priced-for-the-masses category so don't come expecting anything fancy, though it could be an interesting experience digging for some cheap, unique finds.

The main building has glass windows so you can see some of the store fronts inside. Walking in around 9:30am on a Saturday morning there were a handful of early shoppers though not enough to make it crowded. There are about 20-25 total vendors, butchers, grocers, bakeries, convenience, florist, juice bar and clothing/accessories shops. A couple ethnic stores (Latin American and E Asian) from what I could tell. This is located in a less touristy part of town so prices looked overall pretty reasonable. There's not a lot of places to sit and enjoy any drinks/take away food, though there are a couple picnic tables outside and you could potentially pick somewhere along some stairs in the open square area next to the market if you need.

I've been to larger markets in Europe (Mercado de la Ribera in Bilbao, Mercado Bolhão in Porto and…read moreMercado Central which is not in Europe but is in Santiago) and while this one is smaller than those others, it has the good stuff. Butcher, produce, random groceries, a cheesemonger, wine vendor, baker (pastries and breads) and such. Lots to see and experience. Samples from some, narrow aisles, many different opportunities to stock your fridge with goodies. [Review 10675 overall, 443 of 2019.]
