This was my first time here and the food was amazing! I was a little unsure at first because as you are walking up these guys start coming towards you with menus. I quickly realized this is the hustle to get people at their tables. The food was perfect and the service was great. I will be coming back before I head back home Texas. read more

I had my first sample of delicious taquitos de cochinita here last night. The place is low key and the vibe is uber local. read more

Mercado de Santa Ana - Farmers Market Near Me - Mérida, YUC

Wonderful local food. Great place to try specialties of the area. Lots of vendors wanting attention. Nice to set outside on plaza and people watch read more

This listing actually covers about 8 individual stands that appear to be separate businesses. If you even look like you might be interested, a couple of the more aggressive maitre d' types will aggressively put a menu in your hands and drag you to a table. (This is actually common at these shared venues throughout Mexico.) Just ignore them and pick the stand that appeals to you at the moment. That said, I've tried half the stands at all different hours and never had a bad meal. Santa Ana is a little out of the way and more relaxed than places near the grand plaza. Fantastic on really hot day since the tables are in yhe shady corner of tje dquare. My favorite is Loncheria Castenillo, mostly Yucateco dishes, which happens to be one of the few still serving late at night. I definitely recommend this comfortable little market though it might be a little intimidating if you are not comfortable with restaurant spanish. read more

I couldn't honestly give more than four stars since I actually never came here for food. This review is really about capturing the atmosphere. I had heard refuse to stay away from the other market San Lucas because they were too tight to the point of almost being claustrophobic. As we were driving out of Merida, I was glad we avoided San Lucas. The crowd there was packed like sardines. Anyway, what I liked about this one what is its location if you're walking from the main plaza to the Paseo de Montejo, so it's super close, and the food stalls area are adjacent but not part of the shopping experience. The eating area is all open air, covered with a tarp, consisting of standard issue plastic chairs. I have no problems with this but the aggressiveness of vendors seemed higher than other places. Probably since we swung but during off hours when it was predominantly empty-ish to hit up their fresh juice stand (go for the F5 juice blend cuz it has delish FIVE fruits!) on our way to and fro the above mentioned route. Although the food seemed to look good, the area around the plaza is just a little dirty and gritty. I'm ok with heat and eating on plastic chairs but walking past all the broken cement, bird poop covered benches kinda killed my appetite. I'd say there were no more than a dozen stalls, all seeming to offer different foods. read more

Beautiful market with varied and delicious food choices! If you find the tight, crowded market scene overwhelming, this is a much better choice! read more

We like Castillo in the lineup of food stands along the east end of the park. Tacos are MP $20 (1 US$) at current rates. The cochinita pibil is as good as any I've had in many years of traveling in the Yucatan. Fast and friendly service, and very, very inexpensive. Just great, highly recommended. read more

Really great food and juices. Hours are a bit hard to figure out as a visitor, but wasn't a huge deal. Great place to grab lunch!
