New to the area so thought I'd give this place a shot. Came in for a beard trim with Tanya and couldn't be happier. Not only is the shop like how my dream man cave would be but the service I got was impeccable. Tanya was so great and the shop was very helpful in explaining their beard services (I'm new to facial hair btw so had no idea what questions to ask). Some of these bad reviews I'd take with a grain of salt, maybe rival salon owners lol. But MY experience there was nothing but enjoyable, and they have gained a new customer for sure. read more

The beer was the best part of this experience. The hair cut was mediocre at best. The beard trim was not even on the jaw line and didn't trim around the mustache. If it's 40 dollars for a cut and 20 for a beard trim totaling 60 dollars I shouldn't come home to finish trimming. The cut is suppose to include wash and scalp massage as well and that wasn't received. I am a barbershop enthusiast, I get a haircut every Friday and this by far was a 20 dollar cut at most. Checking out the Yelp reviews I decided to give Mens Dept Barbershop a try. And I'm glad I did! This isn't your Supercuts hair place. Prepare to spend a little time, and get the whole treatment - something to drink, a hot towel, hair washed, straight razor trim. Ed took care of me today. As we were talking, we agreed that he's an artist. He is meticulous and sculpted my hair and beard to perfection. Easily the best haircut I ever had. Complete with product to hold things in place. The haircut and beard trim is only $24, plus $10 for the beard. An absolute bargain when considering the quality of the experience and the cut. Go here. Ask for Ed. I went here for a haircut because I couldn't wait to get my hair cut by usual stylist back in iowa. I was a walk in customer. They got me in fairly quickly on a weekday afternoon. They offer one "complimentary" drink with your haircut. The drink can be anything from whiskey to beer to water. I passed in having anything. After getting my simple 15 minute haircut, I wish I had ordered a drink, because the cost of my haircut was over $40. The haircut was mediocre. I need to have it recut here in iowa. I won't try this place again. Too expensive and I don't need drinks when I get a haircut. read more

Their salon services including waxing services for men are great and Kelly and Olga have always done a great job on my hair. This place is amazing. I have been coming here since I moved to the area four years ago. Right off the bat, when you walk in, you are offered a complimentary cup of coffee or glass of draft beer. Every barber I have dealt with is professional, knows their trade, and willing to go the extra mile. This past visit I had Kelly as my barber, and she was amazing. Know exactly what I was looking to get, cut & beard, and even know techniques/styles to recommend as well. I will def be coming back to her chair again. Had my toddler's haircut here twice. Always wonderful experience. Starting with making an appointment they provide exceptional service. Receptionists are always soo nice and polite. After discovering on Yelp, went in for a scissor cut with Kayla ($27) and it was exactly what I was looking for. Quality cut to my specifications for a reasonable price. Once you check in, you'll post up in the man-cave featuring TVs tuned to sports, pool table, comfy chairs, wide assortment of products, and your choice of beverages including beer (although it's Bud Light soooo). Friendly vibes all around the place, the conversations were rolling throughout the room. My cut featured scissors, straight razor neck shave, finished off with a relaxing shampoo...and well d'uh, why don't ALL salons do this at the end vs beginning to get all the cut hair out?! I set up an appointment at 1030 with Bruce. I get there ten minutes early. He takes someone else at 10:28. So after sitting there not knowing who Bruce is the front and desk lady keeps telling me he's almost done. I eventually walk out pissed knowing someone cut in line. Evidently they get a lot of law enforcement etc and they much better treatment than everyone else. I don't recommend coming here if you're not law enforcement etc and or you don't have a lot of spare time. read more

Booked a "Executive shave." It's listed as a hot lather shave. The only thing hot was one steam towel. Brush lather that was ice cold. The barberette's razor skills were good. $34+ tip for a 20 minute service. Very disappointing. read more
