My dad laying in bed not being able to get up, food left in front of him! This is an Alzheimer's patient
    Laura M.

Do not leave your parent or loved one here! If I could give this place negative stars, I would! The day I flew in I went straight to the facility, once I was registered etc I was told the room number and it's down that hall! I went searching for his room, I was lost! There were 4 employees all at the computer with their heads down and on their personal phones. Didn't even lift their heads to see who I was and ask who I was looking for. I found my dad, he was in the wheelchair in the hall and freezing(uncovered) in shorts, and plopped over. HE HAS ALZHEIMER'S!! You could see he hasn't showered, he was wearing someone else's clothes. I started to ask questions, people either didn't know or there was a language barrier! I asked about his shower, and they said he showers everyday, but what they meant was with wet wipes! When I finally got someone to help me give him an actual shower, the CNA yelled at me and said let me do my job. That meant rubbing shampoo in my dads face without giving him a chance to do it himself, he started getting aggravated because she wouldn't let him breath! Started scrubbing his head back and forth that made my dad angry, so I told her to stop and she laughed! They didn't treat him like a human! Left him alone a lot knowing he had Alzheimer's, that he was fall risk and he needed assistance! They would leave his food in front of him and no food would be touched because he didn't know what to do with it, hence the Alzheimer's. When I went to the director he was surprised and said it wasn't in his file that he needed assistance with food, which was a lie because that is the first thing my brother told registration and the nurse multiple times. Everyday I went I would find a new surprise, dried feces on his legs (after they told me they bathed him), feces on the tissue box, cockroaches on the floor. Once, we walked in and he was laying on his bed on his back with his head hanging over the bed (we don't know how long he was laying like that) he didn't have the strength to get up! When we approached the nurse he had no clue. As you can see in the picture, the food tray in front without food being touched! Where was the assistance? He was always left alone! Breakfast would arrive at 11:30, lunch at 2:30 and dinner sometimes past 8pm, thank God he didn't have some condition that needed food with his medications. I basically stayed all day until we could get him out of there. Issue after issue here, one of the Physical Therapist pretty much told me not to leave my dad in this place! I'm not leaving any names here because I started a complaint with Medicare and they will have all the names of who treated my dad. There were times I would arrive and my dad was in the eating area with other patients but no employee watching them! He is a fall risk, hence why he fell from his wheelchair one day. I told the same nurse multiple times my dad was complaining of back pain and stomach pain, please tell the doctor if we can order X-rays! Next day I would remind him, and he said oh yeah, no X-rays ever ordered and no one told me my dad was having diarrhea! Well the day we went to transfer him out of the facility we arrived to my dad in bed shaking and not making any sense! His color was grey, he didn't seem right. My brother and I got him to sit up (he was stiff) and tried to feed him, but he started throwing up! I went to ask his nurse if he didn't notice something wrong with my dad this morning, he said no! He threw up his medication, the nurse said that's not possible because I gave him his medication early! Like really! It was 9:30am how much earlier did you give him his meds! I said something is wrong, he told me he needed to finish giving the medication to all the other patients first! I went and got the charge nurse. He told the nurse to go in there, checked his pressure, sugar and said looks fine. But my dad clearly didn't look fine, shaking, feverish, and his stomach was so distended (and he could barely speak). The doctors came in and right away said something is wrong call the ambulance. My dad died a week later from a bowel obstruction! Yeah that pain he was complaining about and the diarrhea (which no one told us about), vomiting towards the end and fever. This place needs to be reviewed or investigated because this isn't the way. I don't understand the thought process of how they treat these patients or how they didn't have any compassion, except one or two nurses on the weekend shift! I have tried so many times to not think how my dad was treated once I left the facility! Rest in peace dad, I'm sorry that this was the last place you had to be in before your death. Oh, and the hospital he was in before he was admitted to this rehab told us it was a 5 star facility! Well that was a joke! There is so much more but it makes me so sad and angry to think about this time. It doesn't stop here, I have contacted the department of elder affairs!

I had really bad neck pain…read more I've been sent to physical therapy many time in my life. I always go once and never go back. I usually just do the exercises on my own, but then I came here. I've been coming for two months. Mary Stern is awesome. I look forward to my next visits (which is insane if you knew me). She is very smart and knows technics for the spine that very few therapists know (McKenzie method). She cares....and that is the best trait in a heath care professional. She talks through and finds the solution(s). I was hesitant to post this glowing review because I didn't want to let the secret out. Gerry is the other therapist and seems to have similar characteristics (his patients are happy). I truly found my personal therapist for as long as Mary will take me (all future problems). No more one and done. She has me hooked on the process and my neck pain is way better than it was before I met her. Thanks!!!!!!!

My insurance company required that I go through a course of physical therapy before they would approve the surgery. I was skeptical as to getting any benefit from the PT since I had been through the process many times prior to my past surgeries. After my first visit working with Gerry, I immediately felt a connection. Gerry was knowledgeable, professional and caring and I believed that this process could be successful. And it was because I have reached a level of improvement whereby my quality of life has been dramatically improved. Gerry was the catalyst that enabled me to reach the level of success I have attained. Alan E.

When Alaric was six months old he enjoyed homemade baby foods. After I started introducing him to real food around the age of 10 months he refused almost everything. Everyone would just say "it's a phase", "he will grow out of it", "babies/children are picky eaters", "if he's hungry enough he'll eat", "all he really needs is to drink milk". My motherly intuition told me something was wrong but everybody reassured me that it was fine. He would literally only eat rice, crackers, chips, cookies, and sometimes bacon. Alaric was drinking a half gallon of milk a day. I tried everything to get him to eat. I screamed, I bribed, i begged, I spanked, I offered the iPad, I took away toys, I force feed him, I even bought an online feeding toddlers class. However nothing worked. He would gag or throw up almost every meal. I hit my breaking point and found a Pediatric Feeding Therapist online that offered a free consultation. She was the first person to tell me this is not normal and that I should seek help. I reached out to Taylor and was seen for a consultation. She told me to bring a preferred food and he wouldn't even eat his preferred foods. When we left the consultation my husband looked at me and said "this woman is good if anybody can get him to eat it's going to be her". After 3 months of treatment Alaric now eats anything!!! Mealtimes went from a nightmare to an enjoyable part of my day. I did a search for Florida Movement Therapy Centers, and this is what their website says: "Specialties: Florida Movement Therapy Centers is recognized as South Florida's leading company in physical, occupational, speech and cognitive therapies specializing in balance and movement disorders." Most physical therapists specialize in orthopedic physical therapy. Most orthopedic problems can be partially or totally fixed/healed through various repetitive motions within a finite period of time. What sets these centers apart from others is that a great majority of their clients have neurological diseases or impairments that can't be cured. Most need ongoing physical, occupational and/or speech therapy, in order to improve their condition and prevent (or slow) the inevitable continuous, steady decline. Unlike most physical therapy businesses, ALL of the therapists at Florida Movement Therapy Centers understand and can treat these various neurological conditions, (multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, and more). Everyone who works at Florida Movement Therapy Centers, from the people with doctoral degrees in physical therapy to the interns to the receptionists, all understand the needs of their clients with neurological impairments. They are dedicated to fulfill the needs of their clients and to stop, slow, or reverse the inevitable neurological decline, for as long as possible. If you, or your loved one has an ongoing neurological impairment or disease, I recommend these therapy centers highly! They understand the unique problems of these conditions and are highly dedicated to helping you have a better quality of life, no matter what your current condition may be.
