I visited the Menards in Detroit Lakes, MN, today intent on purchasing a ceiling fan/light. Kassie was working at the help desk in electronics and I asked her if a particular fan/light was in stock. Without saying a single word but having a disgusted look on her face, she showed me to that fan. Turns out it wasn't what I wanted so I looked for another I'd seen online but couldn't locate it in the store. I returned to the help desk and, unfortunately, needed to interact with Kassie again. This time she scowled and snapped at me that the second fan wasn't the one I'd shown her earlier. She then told me it was a special order. I walked away feeling upset and not wanting to buy a fan/light from Menards. So many Menards employees bend over backwards to help customers but Kassie acted like she was too important to be bothered. read more

I went in looking for some power tools for a project I have going on at home, and Chris was very helpful! He was very knowledgeable on all tools and even gave me suggestions on which tools I would need and how I should do my wood work. Definitely recommend going to Chris for all your needs, he's the star at Menards read more

Worst pick up order service ever. If you pick up your order and they don't have it they charge and then you have to go walk to the front of the store( pickup area in the back corner in the yard) to get a refund. read more

I came in today to Christmas shop for my two children, and as I walked by a man working ( I believe his name tag read Mike). He was bald, and slightly less than average in height. I overheard him berating another worker about an item being in the wrong spot on the shelf, he had a very rude and overly emotional outburst to the other worker about something that seemed so small to me. He spoke to the other young man as if he was brain dead! I felt nervous even walking by him. I later went through the checkout lines and saw him arguing with a young worker about a heater at her register! By the time I was checking out, the windchill was over -30°! The poor cashier was trying to explain (very calmly) that it gets very cold by the doors, but he would not let her speak, and he talked down to her as if she was a child. I will admit I stood by and eavesdropped for a minute or two, because I was so appalled by his attitude towards another worker. I could see the faces of other guests who I assume thought the same thing as I did, as they all had the same look on their faces. Mike made a scene with this poor young cashier right at the busiest part of the store. He talked down to her, and completely dehumanized her in front of guests. I assume he acts as some sort of boss within the store, but if I ran this menards (or anywhere for that matter) he would be so lucky to be a janitor! His attitude towards his fellow workers is absolutely disgusting, unreasonable, and irrational. Especially to speak that way around customers. I would not recommend coming to this store with Mike lurking somewhere around. I hope the human resources person of this store does SOMETHING about this man's (if you can call him that) behavior. He needs to be humbled! He made my whole experience at menards very uncomfortable and I hope he does not stay there for long. This store berated my son and I for not wearing a mask upon check out (because you know they still want my money ) I explained we had medical reasons for not wearing a d that we had been in the store for over half an hour already with no issues. The employee lady explained it was private property and so she didn't care what the reason was. We told her good to know and that we would not e coming back in the future. Their animal section was a joke anyway. This location discriminates against people with preexisting conditions. Shame on them and everyone who stands by and watches people being discriminated against and says nothing. read more

Absolutely horrible management. A manager removed me from the store cause I am medically unable to wear a mask.. seen him remove an elderly gentleman as well for the same reason. He was extremely rude and told me he didnt care about my health issues. read more

I have a breathing disability. A few days ago I was in Menard's and the workers at the entrance were kind enough to help me get into an electric cart and to make sure that it was working properly. I proceeded to get the needed items on my list and had the assistance of several workers to find the items needed. When I finished headed to check out and was told that I couldn't check out without a mask. I informed them that I have a disability that made it a health hazard to wear a mask. I had an oxygen tank hooked up and a nasal cannula in use. The nasal cannula covers my nostrils. I also pulled up a scarf over my mouth. They said that was not good enough! I asked why and they got argumentative and would only say that it was Menard's policy and I would have to leave. They called the manager and he ordered them to call the police. Three employees had me boxed in demanding that I leave and we're far closer than six feet but while telling me I must leave they told me I couldn't leave! All this after allowing me to complete my shopping but refusing to allow me to purchase any of those items! They were loud, obnoxious, and all of it was very public! In speaking to the police they informed me that they had to wear masks while on the property also.. (but none of them were wearing masks), and they didn't like them either but people lie all the time to get out of wearing masks... I asked them if they thought I was carrying a heavy oxygen tank for fun and they admitted that it was obvious that I have a disability, but Menard's is personal property and I must leave. It is highly unlikely that I will ever willingly go to another Menard's and I would discourages others from doing so as well. read more

I recently moved to the area from a larger city and my first task was to purchase a new washer and dryer. My fiance went to the Detroit Lakes Menards to select a set and found a pretty good deal on front load machines. So we decided to purhase them and she would just spend the night as the machines were to be delivered the next day. The next afternoon once the unprofessional driver delivered the machines and set them up he realized the washer was broken as water just sprayed in the machine. He apologized and said he would run and pick up another one. After an hour or so he returned and unloaded the new washer. After tearing apart all the packaging and setting it up, it was quickly realized this washer was faulty also (the door would not unlock). So the driver then said he would deliver one next week. My fiance, very upset because of having to drive hours up to DL for nothing, called the Menards to see if she could at least get the delivery fee waived. After being treated like garbage and passed around to different people she finally spoke with the manager on duty. He laughed (literally) at her when she explained to him the story and said "well the delivery driver is contracted, so I have to pay either way for him to deliver the machines. Now I have to pay for him to deliver 3 machines. It's not my fault, its the manufacturers fault." After getting no where with the MOD we waited until a few days later and contacted the General Manager of the store. He reiterated the same garbage the MOD did and condescendingly reminded us that its not his fault but he would maybe consider a refund of delivery. Ok, so first off - I understand that the machines were packaged up and it was the manufacturers fault they were not functional... BUT we purchased them from MENARDS. If we had contacted Whirlpool or gone to a Whirlpool outlet I would expect Whirlpool to make things right, but no, we chose to go to Menards. If you are selling a product, and we agree to purchase the product from you, we have conducted business with YOU. I have been a General Manager at a big brand hotel for years and if a guest has a problem with their room, lets say with their TV, I cannot jut tell them well its LG's fault they sold it to me. The guest paid ME for a product, not any other vendor - so it is my responsibility to follow through and make sure the product I sell is at very least satisfactory to the customer. Being a Wisconsinite, I thought there was no way that the corporate headquarters of Menards would let us be treated so awfully (Menards is based out of Eau Claire, Wisconsin). So I looked up online to try and get a phone number of someone to call and get advice. Nothing. No numbers, no email addresses, just a mailing address. There is however a disclaimer that directs customer service inquiries back to the individual store. WOW. I am still in disbelief that a large retail store like this has no other customer service line except to talk to people at the stores. So after weeks of this happening, I decided I would just let it slide and not shop there anymore. But just two days ago my landlord purchased us a new dishwasher - from the local Menards. Guess what? It didn't work and they were upset as well telling us Menards would not take the dishwasher back. So they had to call an appliance repairman. So I decided to take action and write on Yelp, if anything, to warn potential customers of this establishment and its non-customer friendly policies. Now I am a very brand loyal person, and once a brand treats me well I will continue using it. You can tell from my 2 Nissan autos (soon to be 3), numerous Sony electronics, and my frequent trips to Hilton hotels, Macys, JCP, TGIFridays, etc. I hope that someone from Menards corporate reads this and will contact me regarding my customer experience with their establishment. I will amend to this if that does happen. I know how it is to experience an upset customer (remember I said I work in hospitality), and could some day return to the chain if the situation is addressed. Until then, I will no longer set foot in a Menards and will share with everyone my experience. read more
