EXPERIENCE A great supermarket located south of the Italian…read moreMarket. It's located within a Vietnamese-centered plaza surrounded by various restaurants and stores. The market offers a wide array of goods, from tableware, frozen goods, fresh produce, and snacks. It's a great place to stack up on Asian ingredients and staples at an affordable price. SERVICE Staff were kind and friendly. PARKING Parking can be difficult to find as spots are shared with neighboring restaurants and vendors.

Solid Asian food market in the South Philly area. I've come multiple times for Asian ingredients…read moreand have been able to find ~90% of what I've been looking for. It's frankly a bit run down and dimly lit, and definitely has the smell of an Asian market, that while it may be nostalgic for some, including me, it's probably not the preferred or ideal experience in the end. We packed up our stuff in a box available by the counters, and even that gave us the smell of the market on the way home. Staff are all Chinese-speaking, and thus it's probably hard to get help if you're not familiar and know what you're looking for. As a non-Chinese speaker, I personally am usually mostly in and out without much interaction with the staff beyond the personal at the checkstand. All that being said, this is well-stocked, and has what you're looking for if you know what you're looking for. Otherwise, probably best to visit elsewhere for a place that can offer more customer service, or just a more comfortable environment for shopping if you're not at home in Asian markets.

Whole spices. Hot food. Snacks. Frozen and shelf stable items from South Asia and the middle east…read more What else you need? This spot has been a godsend for finding all the spices I need to keep my home kitchen stocked. For reference, here's just a small slice of what I regularly pick up from International Foods and Spices because I cook way too much pho, jerk chicken, lemongrass beef, and al pastor: Allspice Clove Cumin Annatto/Achiote Cinnamon (both cassia and regular) Coriander Various peppercorns Anise Star Anise Bay leaf Garam masala whole spice mix (and preground) Fenugreek (methi) Dried peppers Kashmiri chili powder ... and much much more! That's not even counting the staples like tahini, ghee, and various nuts, grains, dried beans, and other things. The only thing I'd say I wish they had more of was a better fresh herb selection. One quarter to half of the flavor in my cooking comes from fresh herbs, and if they had thai basil, mint, and other things like that regularly, it'd truly be a one stop shop for flavor. If you make flavorful food, International Food and Spices has got your back. And pick up a samosa and some saag while you're at it.

Also they do have every south asian ingredient you would need in a pinch, but there is better across the bridge in Jersey- notably produce is very lacking

They have mainly…read moreChinese, Japanese, and Korean snacks, with a lot of things that I've never seen in other typical East Asian grocery store. Various types of candy, frozen foods, specialty drinks, ice creams, mochi, potato chips, ramen--each aisle is packed with goodies. It is a little pricey, but I like buying interesting candies for care packages or unique gifts. Definitely recommend! - open for covid as of July 2020 - under $10 is cash only

I really enjoyed visiting S.mart! You can't go wrong with anything you buy here…read more I spent less than $20 and got a decent amount of stuff: Black Truffle Velvet Mashed Potato Pringles Ritz Crackers with Chocolate Matcha Chocolates Watermelon Konjac jelly pack Japanese Oreos Gift Box (not pictured) So far, I've had the Oreos, Matcha Chocolate and the Pringles. All were pretty solid! The Pringles remind me of something other than mashed potatoes but I can't put my finger on it. The Oreos are all different flavors and are slightly thinner than the Oreos sold here in the US. The flavor I tried was White Peach and Crystal Grape. Interesting combination to mix with chocolate but it was actually tasty. The matcha chocolate doesn't taste like chocolate. The matcha flavor is very strong and it tastes like you're biting into a block of matcha but with the consistency of chocolate. I wasn't helped by anyone besides the cashier so I can't speak too much on the staff but overall I was able to navigate the store without any questions. The store is a little tight especially when you're sharing the aisles with other people. My understanding is that the S.mart directly next door is owned by the same family and is a store specializing in skincare. They share the same name but sell different items. Great selection of international treats and a nice place for gifts, too!

5/5 for an amazing selection that is quality…read more It has food from all Asian ethnicities, they have fresh seafood and regularly change over their packages of cuts of meat. They had discounted Moon Cakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival. They also have consistent pricing for chicken thighs, vegetables, regular sale pricing for Apples and oranges, etc. As for cleanliness concerns, I think when you go to an Asian Grocery store, you have to expect a sort of controlled chaos. I will say that it can be hard to social distance, but you know that coming here, everyone will be wearing a mask, multiple cashiers and customers will be wearing face shields, most people will be using gloves and everyone will be rushing to get in and out once they've loaded all the bags they can carry with everything they can to buy all at once. I come here for things like hot pot meats, seafood, chicken, beef, drumsticks, live crabs, different vegetables, soy sauce, etc. Tips/Takeaways: -Love this place for all my weekly grocery needs -Definitely great prices, quick staff, patrons all wear masks/gloves, would highly recommend!

Grape plums were something new to me, and I became addicted to them rather quickly. They taste just as their name depicts, a hybrid between a black grape and a red plum. The skin is thick and tart, just like a plum, while the inside resembles a black grape in taste while the texture is a bit chewy like the grapes used to make wine. I ate these almost every day while I was in town!
