But here's what really sets them apart: they will take care of you like family. A month after my new roof was done, a tree fell on my house. They came fast and actually had me laughing when they were done. Outstanding crew: even took away a 100-lb dumbbell that's been in my landscaping for two years after being wrongly delivered there and too heavy for me to move. Simply put: they are the best.

When you've been in a house for a while, one of the big money things you're confronted with is a…read moreroof replacement. Fortunately I've gotten in and out of previous homes before having to tackle this but now, the time has come. After talking to several companies and reviewing proposals, I chose Smart Roofing Systems. Smart has done many homes in my neighborhood and everyone had good things to say about them. My experience was no exception. One difference I noticed about Smart vs. other companies is that instead of having a huge dumpster placed in your driveway, they used an open trailer on wheels allowing for easy removal of the debris each day. I also liked the fact that this left no marks on the asphalt driveway like some heavy dumpster can do. The crews put in extremely long days and did an amazing clean up. When you tear down a roof, shingles, nails, etc. go everywhere. The job site remained neat and the daily and final clean up was superb. Smart was extremely easy to do business with. Great, responsive communications and follow up. I tend to ask a lot of questions especially given the costs involved. Never was I left hanging. I highly recommend Smart Roofing Systems.

Very professional owner and in addition the best manager in the field answering all of our concerns…read moreand questions we had before deciding rather quickly to use Smart Roofing Systems to remove and replace our original roof from 2004 when our home was new? Looking forward to having our old roof from 20+ years removed and replaced tomorrow, 07/24/25! Well fellow homeowners, our roof has been replaced in less than 8 hours? What is most amazing is that it was 100 degrees today in SW Michigan? What literally perfect hard workers and team removing our old roof and a professional and beautiful replacement in this 100 degree combined hot and humid day at our home in Vicksburg Michigan! I spoke in the Yelp chat with questions to the owner Richard Paige in Rockford, MI., who certainly knew all the questions he answered without hesitation and it revealed his knowledge of all the aspects we needed to know! We could not have been more impressed, and we made the decision to have our roof replaced in the very next week he was able to fit us into! A week ago our new premium was due and having our initial roof replaced today, we were able to obtain a credit of $617! Ask your agent about this because it was apparent our roof was old enough that it was raising the cost of our annual premium! We never knew that, but we must also honestly inform all homeowners that insurance companies are very concerned about possible claims because of aging roofs, which seemed fairly obvious, but it "woke us up" when faced with a 50% increase in the past 2 years? Thankfully our agent was definitely helpful and on our side in advising us we could save so much by spending a very reasonable amount with Smart Roofing out of Rockford who replied to me on the YELP APP almost immediately and the rest was history! We are now one week later very thankful this was communicated so well by the owner Richard Paige! We advise anyone in need of reducing sudden increases in homeowners premiums to do a small amount of research, and we sure hope our advice is helpful to all? Sincerely, Mike & Kathy

Two months back I contacted 5 roofing companies: Hansons, Snyder, Moore and Sons, Above Roofing,…read moreand Allied. I explained to each of them that I was bidding the work out and that the work would be won not only on competitive price (Not the lowest), but also quality of product, references, experience (Years in business), total insurance and liability, and overall comfort with their sales rep. The job I was having done was a complete tear off with new shingles being installed. Dave Jr. from Allied came to the house and did a great job of asking the right questions, listening to my concerns, and providing a comprehensive scope of work for the job. While other companies had great presentations that focused on why them, Dave was very straight to the point with me. He explained what he could do and when they could get it done. Dave recognized that I did a tremendous amount of research as I was asking more technical questions of him. He didn't bore me with a 45 minute presentation. In my opinion, the market is flooded with roofers who all say they have the latest and greatest products. Because of this, I learned a lot about the technology out there. Having said this, I went back to Allied and spec'ed out what I wanted on my roof. I chose diamond synthetic for the underlaying, Certainteed Pro Hi-Def for the shingles, and shingle vent II for the vents. There was a lot more they did like reflashing the drain waste vents, ice and water shield (6ft), and replaced drip edge flashing to name a few. They completely accommodated my request and resubmitted their bid. It came in spot-on! I chose Allied because I felt most comfortable with them. I didn't feel like I was being sold, rather, that they just listened and offered me solutions that worked for me. They have been in business for a long time (more than 75 years) and are a family owned company. When all was said and done, they were the lowest bid as well. This was the icing on the cake. On the day of the install, their workers showed up early. They started working almost immediately. I went and got them some Gatorade in the middle of the day and offered to get pizza but they instead opted to go out to lunch somewhere. They finished the entire job in one day. I was absolutely amazed. I was able to look at the materials they were using before they got started to verify that they were using what I spec'ed out and everything was just right. I highly recommend using Allied. I have already given their contact information to two of my neighbors who also need roofs. I explained all the work I went through to get bids and that they should just make one call to Allied. I trust that Dave Jr. and his team will do a great job. Side note: Hansons is SUPER expensive and to be honest, if you spec out the materials you want with Allied, you can get everything they offer and more for less money. Their money back guarantee seemed nice but their price match policy is a joke. They will only match pricing if you have to replace 100 sq ft of plywood. Otherwise, you are out of luck. My roof was fine so I was automatically disqualified for price match. I feel as though if I were to go to Allied and tell them I was unhappy with the work, they would do everything they could to fix it. So in that respect, Allied matches everything that Hansons said they would do. Also, I found the Hansons sales rep to be overbearing. He didn't understand that I already did a lot of research and continued to try to sell me stuff I didn't want or need for that matter. My experiences with Snyder, Above, and Moore and Sons were fine.

Nate came out to give us a quote, and quickly expanded the scope of what they would "need" to do. The quote was separated into two sections, as per conversation with Nate: (1) need to do before winter to stop leaking and limit damage already incurred, and (2) improvements that we could make in the spring. We agreed to part #1 in October, to include work on the flashing around our chimney, the single most important piece of the work required. Over a month went by and I heard nothing until the third time I reached out for an update, at which point I was assured the work had been done - no photos, no notice they were on my property, the only evidence that they'd been on my property was pieces of scaffolding they left behind in my yard. In January, on my first trip to the home since work had been "done", I was able to see very obviously from the ground the work had not been completed as described. I emailed with photo evidence of internal water damage and flashing clearly protruding, completely unconnected to the chimney. I did not hear back for over a month. When they finally got back to me, they claimed the flashing - the single most important part of the work that I was repeatedly assured would be part of the work completed - was not, in fact, included the $4,000 bill. They provided (finally) photos of other work that had been done. After multiple days of back and forth, I was offered $200 off to apparently make up for being lied to and the internal damage done to my house for them not doing the work they swore up and down they'd do before the winter set in. Thanks for nothing, you clowns.
