We took ourselves off on a driving holiday up north this summer and didn't book any accomodation in advance since we just wanted to see where life took us - we stopped in at a little B&B randomly and couldn't resist after being told there was a room available! The Mellon Patch is a family-run B&B, tucked away in the village of Carrbridge, which is really near Aviemore. We stayed there just for the one night this summer and the owners couldn't have been nicer, it really felt like we were staying with family or friends. The rooms were all ensuite, beautifully decorated, extremely clean and welcoming, there were even fresh flowers in the room, even though they didn't know we were coming!! We didn't eat breakfast, through choice, but they took the time to make a fresh pot of coffee for us before we left to send us on our way. Lovely gardens which can be seen at least from the 'Yellow Room', and the place itself is set into woodland, beautiful countryside just a stone's throw from the now very commercial centre of Aviemore. I'll definitely go back on our next jaunt up north! read more
