Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We hired April because our books needed professional cleanup, reconciliation, and accurate financial reporting so that I could understand the true financial condition of my company. After months of working together and paying for catch-up and ongoing bookkeeping, I still did not have financial statements that I could confidently use to run my business. There were significant unresolved issues in our QuickBooks, including tens of thousands of dollars sitting in Undeposited Funds, a very large amount of old accounts receivable, questionable or unexplained account balances, uncategorized transactions, and problems that made it difficult to rely on our job costing and profitability numbers. What concerned me most was that we were told the catch-up bookkeeping was completed and the final payment was due, yet substantial cleanup issues were still showing in the books. As the owner, I should be able to ask basic questions such as what my actual profit is, what my true accounts receivable is, what my break-even point is, and whether my books are reconciled--and receive reliable answers. I understand that some of the problems involved FieldPulse syncing, transaction mapping, deposits that needed to be matched to invoices, and information that our company needed to provide. However, I expected those issues to be clearly tracked, communicated, and driven to resolution as part of the bookkeeping engagement. Ultimately, I lost confidence in the accuracy of the financial information I was receiving and decided that our company needed to move in a different direction. For a small-business owner, accurate books aren't optional. We depend on our bookkeeper to give us financial information we can trust when making decisions about employees, pricing, cash flow, taxes, and the future of the company. Unfortunately, that was not the experience we had.
