Visited on January 7, 2025 with my daughter who is shopping for a new uke. This place has an amazing selection! The prices are good, considering these are fine instrument, not toys. Many are hand-made. The service was exceptional. Joel is very knowledgeable. He spent time discussing my daughter's needs and offered excellent recommendations. Joel was fabulous! I went to find out some information about slack key guitar playing, and then got interested in the ukuleles. There is such a huge variety of sizes and shapes and types of wood. He was awesome! He played a lot of the ukuleles and told me the differences between them. He also could play very well! I highly recommend this store if you are at all interested even in just learning about ukuleles. I didn't want to buy one today, however, if you do, this is the place to get it. read more

I just was in the store and we walked in at 5:55pm. The first thing out of the one worker's mouth was "I close in 5 minutes." We tried to hurry and look at picks and a strap. As we were paying, the jerk working there told us that he really wanted to go home and asked us to leave. I was in the process of telling my wife that we should come back and look at the ukulele that was hand made there ($900 +) when he said "I really want to go home. Can you just hurry and pay!" I would recommend never going there for anything. Sad really for the owner. They have very high quality ukuleles. read more

Rude, disrespectful and outright illegal! I am disabled. My parents came to visit, mom is a Ukulele fanatic! We went to Mele in Paia and the man told me I was unwelcome and had to leave because I had a service animal. Not only unreasonable (he's not a pet, he's a service dog) but also illegal. Yeah, you can get an Ukulele on Amazon or guitar center, but the experience of my 10 year old picking out the Ukulele is a memory she'll have forever. The lady and her uncle were great. My 9 year-old daughter saved up her money to buy a ukulele when we went to Maui and we had no idea where to get one. Luckily, we stumbled across the Mele Ukulele store in Paia. My daughter's eyes lit up when she entered the store and saw all the ukuleles. Annie helped us out and showed my daughter the ukuleles in our entry level price range. There were several to choose from and Annie was very sweet to our daughter. After my daughter picked out a ukulele, Annie took the time to give her a little mini lesson. Absolutely awesome experience I will never forget. Beautiful store and beautiful instruments. The young lady who helped me was so sweet and nice, very knowledgeable, and did a very thorough job of showing me several different ukuleles, explaining the differences, and helped me find the one that was right for me. She was also an amazing player and instructor too - she played each ukulele (different sizes and woods) so I could hear the tone differences and also taught me some chords so I could feel how each one played. read more
