Rather than "remodel" the S. Penn store in Lansing again, they should really just close it down and let a Walmart move in. For the past decade or so, every "improvement" they've made has been a gigantic failure. When they remodeled the store ("Thrifty Acres") back in 2014 it never seemed to have the inventory that residents counted on them for, for decades prior. Meijer had been putting several other stores in the area (like Radio Shack for example) out of business because people could find what they were looking for at Meijer, without having to shop at other stores, and Meijer often had the products for less. Then when those businesses were already gone, the "new" Meijer no longer sold many of the products and those stores were no longer available to shop. The inventory changes at the "new" Meijer made it so people NOW had to travel elsewhere to find what they were looking for. Gradually, the inventory issues at that Meijer started growing to where they stopped carrying certain popular brands, or products in general that were staples to many of their shoppers in the past. Even before Covid, Meijer inventory issues were growing. They also introduced items that were popular and sold out quickly, but instead of increasing inventory, they decided to just stop carrying them all together. Currently, if they run out of something it can take MONTHS for them to restock it and they used to blame it on Covid, but the problem existed before and still to this day. When I asked a store manager why they always had so many issues with inventory, I was told that somewhere along the line, Meijer Corporate decided to stock stores in order according to the income level of an area. When the supply orders get sent out, they go to stock the richest neighborhood Meijers' first and the reason the S. Penn location is always low or out of stock, it's because they're last on the delivery list, so they get what's left over. I can't begin to express how disgusted I feel every time I shop at Meijer, and the ONLY reason I have still shopped there for the past few years is because I like to use the mPerks to get $1/gal discount on gas. I can never go to Meijer and get my entire grocery list, so I end up shopping at at least 2 grocery stores, every time I need groceries. Now, Meijer has become extremely stingy on the ways to earn mPerks, so I will be shopping around for a different option. Their "ways to earn" mPerks has gotten to a point where I would have to buy things that I would never likely purchase for any other reason than for their mPerk points and that isn't even worth the gas discount, because it costs more to GET the perks than it's worth to use them. I also can't understand why they have such a problem with getting shopping carts that roll straight or won't take out your shins when that stupid theft device fails (and they always do). I hate that Meijer so much, because I still find myself going there simply because it's close. But I wish, every time I go, that it would get hit by a meteor and get replaced with a Walmart. read more

My daughter is eight months. She weighs no more than about 28 pounds and in the women's bathroom the kids changing table the seatbelt is broken. It was absolutely filthy. I had to scrub it multiple times. It was wobbly and I had to hold my daughter in place while changing her because of the size. read more

This grocery store is huge! They have your regular grocery store items, but also section of beer, wine, and liquor, which was super convenient. They also have home items, clothing, items, make up, and other unconventional grocery store items. The store appeared to be clean and well kept, and the staff seems pretty friendly and willing to help. The prices are right on with what you would expect to see, and a huge variety. I was pleased to see the amount of gluten and allergy, friendly items as well. read more

Do you want produce, fish tanks, hunting license or pharmacy? This is the place where you can find it all. It's like a combination of Costco, Walmart and Cabela's and the aisles are wide, much like the roads in the midwest. I can understand how someone coming from an environment like this would be frustrated to have to go to 3 separate stores to get everything they need. This is not the first time bakery has ruined an event with the lack of knowledge about their OWN cakes. I literally ask questions before buying. Recently, I bought a cupcake and it was piped with A TON of frosting with a generous amount on top-they assured me it was a mistake. I stated it was entirely too much frosting for my liking. Right after the conversation, I asked about a cake that stated "double layer!" I asked how much fronting between the two cakes-she said just a very thin layer! I'm so upset! Bought the cake for a celebration-there were FOUR layers of butter cream-very little cake-couldn't even enjoy it! Bakery needs to be UPFRONT and know their product. I would have never bought it. As part of renovations for the entire Meijer property - which opened while LBJ was still president (1967), Meijer simply up and built a new station on a different spot on their property. The Meijer fuel station was previously right next to the 5/3 bank branch. Newer pumps were put in, and the new station is at a much more prominent spot on the property with easy access. When the new station opened on September 8th, 2014, I was the first E85 customer. Because the previous store carried kerosene but not E85 - and the new store carries E85 but not kerosene - a glitch was handed down from corporate in pricing. The first price posted for E85 was $3.56, while 87 regular was priced at $3.56 as well. I wasn't happy about this. The dad and I spoke up about it, and the district manager insisted on making it right. He had one of the employees call the West Saginaw Highway store to get their E85 price so that he could match it. The district manager then insisted my dad and I each take a coffee and a pastry. I've had good customer service inside, so it's hard for me to give it a lower star rating. The reason I would be inclined to do so is because there is only one E85 pump - two sides. Both sides are often taken by drivers getting gasoline. So while anyone can just stroll in and fill with gasoline, I have to sit there and wait. Plus, the E85 price is one of the higher in the area, so I typically face the problem of waiting for inconsiderate drivers elsewhere. Long before Covid, Meijer has SUCKED with their inventory. There has not been a time in the past 5+ years that I could go there with a grocery list and find everything I went there for. I could never figure out why they were ALWAYS out of things and why it took so long for them to restock those items and many times I would find out they just quit selling the items. I'm not talking about things that don't sell, because they were obviously selling out all the time when they still stocked them. So, I actually went to the customer service desk to ask what was the deal with their ordering issues ad I was told that there is nobody in the store in charge of inventory. Apparently, all the ordering for all the Meijer stores is done "at corporate". This is the most ignorant, backward thing I have ever heard! (other than Joe Biden getting elected legitimately) Every store should have an inventory manager that keeps track of what sells and what doesn't at each location. OH and whatever they did to their cottage cheese when they changed the container to the foil topped red containers, highly disappointing. I used to think Meijer brand cottage cheese was the best. Now it has that disgusting puke aftertaste that all the other chemically 'lowfat' stuff has. I have literally been praying for an earthquake to come swallow Meijer and let a Walmart replace it. Old and run down it's not. Nice store, I'm sure Meijer Corp spent some money renovating it but when I couldn't find anyone to answer the red phone at the sporting goods counter it was a red flag. Found some old lady and asked her my question but she looked more shocked that I even spoke to her and it took a round about conversation for her to settle the shock to make conversation. Called the customer service desk and was put on hold for 30 min. Who's more stupid? Me or this store? This is certainly the worst of the Meijer stores in the greater Lansing area. I stop at this one because Its nearest to my work. Often items are out of stock. When trying to locate an item today I couldn't find an associate anywhere. Then when I finally went to check out, the lines were ridiculously long. I observed what I believe were lead cashiers or Supervisors with no sense of urgency despite multiple checkout lines extending deep into the clothing departments. This isn't the first time either, it happens with frequency. This store is the worst I've seen, but it is a trend I see at all the stores in Lansing, long lines with no effort by management to improve the experience. I really want to like this store. It's the closest Meijer to me. To avoid the crowds, I try to shop during off hours, usually very late night, or very early morning. I think the best part of this store are the people who stock the shelves during non-busy hours. They are all polite and friendly...and they work hard. What I don't like is being approached by scary looking panhandlers in the parking lot. If the store managers doesn't know they're there, they aren't paying attention. If the creepy guys are not in the lot walking up on people, they are sitting in the vestibule inside the store. I don't understand why Meijer management tolerates this. read more

First review, prompted by all the unfair poor reviews here. First off, this Meijer has been completely renovated, so the "run down" reviews are no longer applicable. Second, the employees are SUPER nice. I love the folks in the pharmacy, especially. Very conversational. Third, yes, this Meijer caters to ALL folks, from all walks of life. It's not for the Whole Foods faint of heart. It's for regular folks, and if that makes you uncomfortable, you shouldn't shop here. But if you're a person who appreciates a typical Meijer, then this one won't disappoint. Bottom line: Safe, clean, good prices, helpful employees. So why ONLY four stars? I guess I reserve a five star review for the amazing experiences. But this Meijer certainly deserves your business. read more

I don't get paid to check myself out and not to mention the horrible customer service you get off you have to ask a question. Ever since they installed no limit self check, the line at checkout has been ridiculously long during normal business hours. I get it, the company can save labor cost by automating checkout, not paying employees' medical insurance, FICA, etc. Meijer is making the same mistake that big three automakers had made. Past 10 PM there aren't cashiers so I had to self-check out. Fine. But then the lane that I was in would neither scan the things I tried to buy nor would it move anything down the conveyor belt. The lady that tried to fix the lane had to come over no less than 8 times and still couldn't get it to work. I gave up and went home, because that wasn't worth my time. I could have learned where things were fast if any employees were around and not just at the cash registers! I would not recommend this store i only go here because of how close it is. I went in and bought some fish yesterday got home got them in their tank after letting it warm up so they wouldnt die check on them later and they were dead, now when i got them 3 of the 4 were handled properly the 4th was not while the employee was getting them one jumped on the very edge of the glass and the employee flicked into the small tank then when he was filling the bag with water for the fish the same fish he flicked jumped into the sink and was grabbed by hand and put back into the bag. But after i discovered they were dead i called the store and was told i could bring come back in with the receipt as long as i was within the 10 day return period and that i would not need to bring in the dead fish to exchange them. I went in today and was told i had to bring in the dead fish with the recipt when i had been told the opposite. I was told "im sorry theres nothing we can do" honestly if i could i would rate the store below a 0 star the fish tanks have dead fish floating all over in the tanks as well as having half eaten fish floating around there is no reason someone couldn't take better care of the fish and their tanks. The lines are always horrible i haven't seen any managers or other employees trying to help with the massive lines at all. I tried to talk to someone through their site but all efforts were useless they do not seem like they want anyone to be able to contact them to complain about their service and their line to a survey to tell them how they are doing is worthless you call the number for it and its no longer in service and its the same with the website. The only explanation i can think of for the lack of communication with their customers is that they do not care that they just want your money and dont care what you think.
