I agree with the post concerning having to stand outside for 3-4 areas with no place to rest or go to the bathroom, let alone eat. I have used Megabus several times and board at the Fayettville, NC terminal. I arrived at that terminal 8 days ago (147 Old Wilmington Road). Two days ago, I purchased a boarding pass for Thanksgiving night with a pick-up time of 12:15 am. When I purchased the ticket, I was not informed of any changes in location of the pick-up site. Last night, my ride took me to 147 old Wilmington which basically a fenced in terminal with a gate that is locked at night. As we normally do, we pulled up beside the fence about 40 feet from the locked gate. You are advised to arrive early which I did, almost an hour to be exact. Due to the temperature, 31 degrees, I waited in the car. About 12:00, another passenger arrived and was dropped off by her ride. Since It was about time for the bus to arrive, I retrieved my luggage from the trunk, and got out to wait; my ride was still waiting with me. At 12:30, 15 minutes late, we see the bus coming down the road. To our amazement and shock, the bus drives right past us, turns at the stop sign, and zooms off into the night. We have no idea what is going on, so both I and the other waiting passenger get on our phones to contact Megabus customer service. During this time, my ride walks down the side walk and notices a sign on the fence; it is one of those banner type advertisement signs that because of the lighting and the color of the sign, you could not read unless you were standing in front of it. The sign informed us that the pick-up location had moved, so quiet naturally, we had missed our bus. Customer service informed both of us that "They apologized for the inconvenience, but that our fare was nonrefundable. That we should have received an email and a text message telling us of the change in location, which neither of us did or we would have been at the new location. Customer service also informed me that I could still catch the bus in Atlanta, GA. I don't know how she thought I was supposed to get there since that is over 5 hours from Fayettville. Both the other would be passenger and I ended up spending the night at the Grehound terminal after purchasing more tickets. The tickets for Greyhound are more expensive which is why I chose Megabus to begin with. So now, I was out $108 for the Megabus ticket, plus $183 for the Greyhound ticket.
My question is: Why didn't the bus driver have the common decency/courtesy to stop and tell us what was going on? The bus came directly past the old pick-up location where we were standing in full view. The stop sign is about 1/2 block from where we were standing so he was already slowing down. There is no way that he did not see us standing at a stop that, until a few short days ago, he would have made. In fact, the last time I had a late night pick-up time, the bus stopped right in the street near where we were standing and picked up me and several other passengers. I will NEVER use Megabus again! In this case, I feel that I and the other person should be given a refund. read more
