Actually had a fine experience with Megabus. This station is large, has security guards that walk you out when the buses arrive, and isn't shady. I went from Dallas to Austin with me scheduled to arrive within three hours. Ended up getting to Austin half an hour earlier than expected. Much more pleasant experience compared to Megabus on the way to Dallas. WiFi never works on Megabus. Even if they seat you on the older Kerrville buses. Ironically the older Kerrville bus was more comfortable compared to the double decker Megabus. On the Kerrville bus, I had more leg room and the AC actually worked. read more

Megabus say 10 years up to 5 years ago was the number one and best bus to travel with in USA especially in Texas. But now 2023 no way. Not only are they collecting high bus fares and selling seats to passengers, they're no more Megabus traveling in Texas axis obviously. Bad drivers with no concerns about the passengers. No one to explain or apologize to the passengers that they no longer have Megabus, instead they just load passengers into some COACHLINE buses without A/C working properly, no WI-FI and no charging ports to charge passenger's phones. The seat are so dirty I can go on and on. Had a reservation for my son from Dallas to Austin. Left home with plenty of time to get him there early. Unfortunately we had a tire blowout on the highway on the way. Got the tire changed and arrived at the bus stop (Fuel City) just in time to see the bus starting to pull out. Jumped out of the car and tried to wave down the bus driver, who just kept on driving ignoring me. Ended up having to buy a 1-way same day flight on Southwest for $175. And $300 to replace a tire. Contacted customer service, asking if they could provide a refund and offered to provide pictures and receipts as proof of my extenuating circumstances, only to be told that refunds and credits are not allowed. My brother and I rode the Megabus (in June 2018) from Dallas, TX all the way to Richmond, VA, with a bus changes in Memphis, TN and Atlanta, GA. I'm going to share the same review with those Megabus Yelp business pages. Our trip took around 36 hours. First, the bad: WiFi did not work on ANY of the three buses we rode. It's time consuming. Our journey was 36 hours end to end. Cleanliness of bathroom deteriorates rapidly as the journey wears on. I considered it "For emergency use only." There is no running water. There might have been hand sanitizer. Now the good. Inexpensive. Nothing beat it. Not Greyhound. Not Amtrak. If you have more time than money, or just want an adventure, Megabus is OK. Buses were clean. Buses have a bathroom, but it's nothing more than a chemical toilet. It was an adventure. 110 volt A/C power outlets did work on all buses. Oh, and since it was summer, there were no airline deals either. The bus stops about every 2 hours for a break. It generally stopped at a truck stop, where you could use a restroom with running water, and get something to eat. Our bus change in Memphis was long. It gave us enough time to take an Uber to Beale St. It was also at night. Neighborhood was kinda sketchy, but there was indoor waiting area with vending machines and bathrooms. There's a gas station next door that serves hot food. Our bus change in Atlanta was shorter, but it was long enough to search out some breakfast within walking distance. It was morning for this stop. Neighborhood was OK. There was no indoor waiting area and I think there were restrooms if you went in the MARTA station (below). We arrived in Richmond at night and walked to our hotel. I did not seeing any waiting area, though it is close to the (Amtrak) train station, in the Main Street Station, so there might be something there. If you are prone to motion sickness, there is less sway on the bottom, but try to get toward the front, as the bathroom is in the back. Upper seats have a better view, and the roof is transparent. During the day it was quite enjoyable. There are reserved seats, and if they are available, will cost you a little extra. We only had reserved seats on one bus. Not having a reservation was not a problem. There are some sections, up and down, where the seats face each other (with a small table in the middle). So if you are a party of 3 or 4, it would be good to reserve these seats. You might want to hedge your bet, and reserve seats opposite of each other. This way you'll play footsies with someone you know, not a stranger. It seems obvious now, but the reserved seats are the ones with BIG numbers on them. Once the bus is loaded, it seems OK to move into those seats, but you don't know if they are going to be reserved for the next leg of your journey. The bus does drop off and pick up along the way, though not necessarily at all stops. Some stops are just breaks to stretch your legs, and last 10 to 20 minutes. You might want to bring an extension cord, or have a long charging cable. Sometimes the power is overhead. Brings snacks and drinks, but not alcohol, as it's not allowed. We asked a couple drivers what would happen if you were caught. The answer varied a bit, but it seems likely you will be kicked off the bus. Where you are asked to leave seems to depend on your attitude. If you need anything during the trip, bring it with you when you go to your seat. You can't access your checked bags en route. Consider bringing ear buds or plugs, and eye shades. My conclusion: It was just too many hours. Man this trip dragged on. I would consider it for shorter trips, in fact I'd like to see more of Memphis. And them maybe take a riverboat to New Orleans, and Megabus back to DFW. Bottom line: Good adventure. No problems. No regrets. First Megabus ride today...Dallas to San Antonio. Bus arrived on time. Mega man came in the Dart Olive station and asked us to line up. We lined up neat and orderly and were on the bus in no time. Departure time 10:05 and we werent actually rolling until about 10:12 only because somebody had illegally parked in front of the bus. Very prompt. Dart transfer station on pearl is indoors and is heated/cooled w plenty of places to sit. Tip #1 : the Dallas transfer station is actually the second stop. The bus starts in Grand Prairie. So if you don't have a reserved seat you'll have to take what's left after the Grand Prairie folks have already boarded. Tip#2 passengers that don't have reserved seats don't know which seats have been reserved. So if you have a reserved seat and somebody is in it just politely ask them to please move. Tip#3 The seats are the same size as coach seats on an airplane. Tip#4. The table on the lower level reserved seats is very narrow and your legroom is limited. The narrow table and legroom are shared with the person facing you. I had no real wifi issues. The app tells you what the signal strenghth is presently and what it will be in the next few miles. If the bus is in the middle of nowhere the signal may be weaker. Shocking, I know. Reasonable selection of free movies and tv shows to watch on the app. A wreck in Austin delayed us about 20 minutes. I had problems with Megabus service 3 times in a year. First time bus skipped my stop and left me and other people behind . Second time the bus broke down in the middle of the trip and we had to wait several hours for another bus. Third time only 1 bus arrived on time to the stop when there were suppose to be 2 buses for that service, so half of the passenger have to wait hours at the stop for another bus to came. If you refuse to wait and leave to find another transport you get no refund because they said the service will be provided in few hours. Awful customer service. read more

I was very cautious after reading these reviews, but I must say my experience was totally FINE. Did it blow me away? No. But it got me from Dallas to Austin safely and relatively comfortably. The bus was clean, temperature was comfortable, and staff was friendly. Boarding was quick, as was de-boarding and luggage retrieval. I was able to reserve my seat in advance (for $1.99 - totally worth it) so didn't have to stress about where to sit. l had the worst experience on my trip back to Dallas from Memphis. I paid $7 extra for a reserved seat only to find someone else sitting in my seat. When I asked the bus driver to check everyones reservation he simply said "No, ma'am." Okay.. so basically what was the point of me paying extra for a reserved seat only to not be able to sit in it WHILE someone else (a family of 4, hogging 6 seats to themselves) without reservations are sitting in those seats? When I told them they shouldn't be in those seats they said "we don't play by the rules." I AM INFURIATED at this problem. Lots of college students and mid-age to old travelers take the megabus. Bus is fairly clean and roomy. Equipped with reclining seats, blasting AC (super plus), outlet plugs, free wifi and tv screens (unfortunately this bus ride didn't have a movie to play though) and I am on the rode for 3.5 hours. Restroom was fairly clean, no toilet seat covers though. Overall great experience and wouldn't mind riding the megabus again. By the way, bring snacks :) read more

Careful with your belongings!! This is my 2nd time riding with megabus. My boyfriend and mom haven't had issues before but this past Monday I was taking the bus from dallad N. Olive st. Location to Austin and my wallet got stolen from my backpack from one of the megabus employees. I know it was one of them (the only one who had access to luggage and was boarding them on bus) because 3 hours into my bus drive they decided to go spend $561 at Dillards Northpark . Luckily the card declined 2X. I would never turn my backpack in but since i had 2 bags I was told by who I believe was bus driver that only 1 bag is allowed on bus. So be extremely careful with this location and your belongings! Don't leave anything with value in luggage or backpack!. I took the bus on a Monday at 5:30 pm on August 27th 2018. i bought my tickets in advanced from Dallas to Houston thes said it stopped in conroe not metro city park and ride I paid an extra 40 dollars to make sure I went to metro park and ride. I missed my bus and had no idea I could catch the next one for free . they charged me an extra 50 dollars to get the next bus. They charged my card 3 times for 1 transaction. I called customer service and was informed they could only repay part of the excess fees and this is only after speaking to 3 reps 2 supervisors and being hung up on. They still refuse to repay the booking fees for the mistaken charges. So I've paid 3 booking fees and only booked one ticket. I should begin this by saying that, prior to the experience I am about to detail, I would have given Megabus a solid four star review. I used the bus service to travel to and from Austin, Texas a few months back and felt pretty comfortable on the three-hour ride. Because of my recent experience, however, I will never use their service again, and I have already filed claims with the Better Business Bureau and local chamber of commerce. Megabus's premise is offering a comfortable, wifi- and outlet-friendly ride to destinations several hours away. For those not looking to sit next to strangers for several hours at a time, the the line offers the option of purchasing upgraded reserved seating for a very modest fee of $1-$5. I should note that I have purchased reserved seating each time, and each time I have had to ask someone to relocate from my seat; I also watched one guy intimidate another who was asking to sit in the reserved seat he purchased. They do not police these at all, so beware. Anyway, I recently purchased tickets for a conference in Houston, Texas. Since the bus offers wifi and outlets, I planned to work on the bus ride. I purchased the tickets about a month in advance. Three hours before the trip began, however, I received an email from the line stating that the bus was no longer available; I had to ride on another line. Needless to say, the other line was cramped, dingy, dirty, and, you guessed it, outlet free. Even if it did have outlets, the bus was so cramped that working would have been impossible. When I contacted Megabus about my experience and told them I felt they had run a bait and switch, they said they try their best to give buses with the promised amenities but cannot always do so. I then told them that my tickets never state this possibility, and that their site does not clearly state this matter. They then referred me to an abstruse location on the site that lays out the position the stated. I felt they actively deceived me by basically hiding information that should be clearly stated at the time of purchase, on your ticket. Run from this service as fast as you can. Literally, run. You'd probably get there just as fast and won't have to deal with all the hassle. It's also worth mentioning a few additional facts about my experience: 1.) the bus stop in Houston is a dirty trailer. They had a show about the KKK on and a man I presume must have been a white supremacist was shouting in agreement with the people on television. 2.) There is no real bus stop in San Antonio. I sat next to a homeless person's belongings while waiting for the bus in a parking lot. 3.) The buses make incredibly odd changes in random places because they have to "change drivers." The gas stations they stop at are always disgusting. You get what you paid for, I guess. You cannot expect a round trip to Houston or San Antonio or Austin for $40 and expect to get good service. I took the Megabus from Dallas to Houston. It is a four hour long journey. The bus was exactly on time and covered the distance in good time. It was a very comfortable journey. The seats of the bus recline so you can relax. There is not a lot of leg room, but it was manageable since it was a short trip. There is free wifi and power outlets in the bus. There is also a restroom in the bus. There are no rest stops during this journey from Dallas to Houston, so it is advisable you bring some food/drink with you. I took the early morning bus on an empty stomach and didn't get anything to eat until I reached Houston! I wish there was a small pantry in this bus then it would have got a five star rating! Deceivingly easy to make and pay for reservations, and they promote how easy it is to make changes to a trip, but NOT SO! I have a freshman at UT-Austin, and made a $80+ reservation for a trip home for Thanksgiving, then he ended up driving with a friend who was coming earlier. When I tried to change it for $30 trip another weekend, the website I still had credit to buy another trip, but you only get 10 minutes to make all of your changes! It was also unclear as to whether or not I had to pay for the extra fees, reserved seat, etc before choosing another trip, or if I had to select the other trip and then pay for all fees at once. I called Customer Service, was on hold for a while, then the recording said they are too busy and to call another time. I was forced to guess, and did not want to lose my 1st selection and have to start all over since I only had about 5 minutes left, so I opted to pay first since that button was first, then planned to select a 2nd trip with my balance. WRONG CHOICE! MONEY GONE! I emailed them, but they must not really read emails, because the response basically said, "you can't do that". DUH. I have emailed with a previous problem too, and they sent back an equally useless and clueless response. Either they don't read the concerns at all, or a robot is detecting key words and responding. As if that was not rotten enough, my son's trip back to Austin was NOT on the double-decker bus like I had reserved, but a regular old bus that he said was jam-packed and the wi-fi was worthless, plus it was about an hour late. Also, just tried to call them again to give them a chance to rectify the situation, and got a recording indicating it was disconnected number. Called again and it worked.... very sketchy. (877-462-6342 - you have to scour the website for this number!) Also calling on a Wed mid-afternoon telling me they are (again) experiencing long wait times due to high call volume. Finally got an agent who apologized "for any inconvenience" about 10 times, said all managers and supervisors were unavailable, told me to call back in 10 minutes, and would not let me hold for those 10 minutes. My recent trip between Dallas and San Antonio was a mixed bag. Travel dates were 6/16-6/19. Trip down to SA was OK. Bus was on time. Only complaint was the temperature of the bus was way too warm. However, compared to trip back, it was comfortable. Trip back was awful. Drivers ask customers to respect their fellow passengers by not talking loudly or often on their cell phones, but one lady insisted on talking loudly the entire way from SA to Austin. Really rude. Noise cancelling headphones AND ear plugs could not block the noise. We picked up a lot of people in Austin, so bus was full on this segment. As the afternoon heated up the bus could be kept cool. We stopped near Belton to pick up a new driver who was about 45 mins late. He checked out complaints about AC but problem could not be fixed. So we drove on. I worked for owner Coach America briefly in 2012 after they purchased bus company I worked for out of bankruptcy. So, I know a little about buses. I think problem is that this Van Hool buses are made in Europe for the European market where it does not get as hot. Using buses with moon roofs in a Texas summer is just plain stupid!! I had a horrible experience on Megabus starting in Dallas. I booked a trip from Dallas to Autin, TX. I lined up for the bus at the Dallas bus stop. I showed my ticket to the Megabus employee and he directed me onto the bus for Houston instead of Austin. When I boarded the bus there was no announcement that indicated it was a Houston bound bus. So, instead of Austin I ended up in Houston. There were three other riders in the same predicament. I contacted MegaBus a few days later to request a refund since I had to pay for a rental car to get from Houston to Austin. After several weeks of follow up emails requesting a status on the refund, I have not heard back. This was a really poor experience. read more

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I had a reservation on Megabus for 7/20/20 at 6:25 pm . DFW downtown location I arrived at 5:45 and the check in office was closed. Went to the Bus check-in for Mega bus where other travelers were waiting for the same bus to Houston. After waiting 2 hours The bus never showed up. We all called customer service had to wait on hold for over 30 min and then got hung up on by representative saying you must have missed the bus it left on time. I called customer service again the next day then was told no refunds at all. Terrible terrible customer service satisfaction. read more

Attempted to travel from Dallas to Houston in June. We made it about 20 minutes and the bus goes dead. LITERALLY!!! Everything shuts off. We sit on the side of I45 for about 15 minutes while the driver speaks with headquarters. She is finally able to get the bus started. This happens a total of 3 more times before we end up stopping in Fairfield. We wait an hour and a half for another bus to show up. In the meantime, I have friends who have left Fort Worth headed to Houston as well. The second bus arrives and we pull out. Before we even get out of the parking lot, it begins dragging. The driver then states that tHe mechanic who has left needs to raise it back up. My friends will be arriving to where I am in 20 minutes. I get the hell off the bus, get my things and wait. I wasn't taking any changes. The driver tried to get me a hard tine for getting my luggage, but I didn't care. Enough was enough. We were offered a credit versus a refund. I did myself a favor and sold it on a local marketplace. I'm done with megabus. read more

The employees are racist and disrespectful. With every other person in line, stronger and larger than me, the workers helped load luggage onto the bus (as is it their job to do so), but with me the guy looked and said, "you put it up". I was the only Asian in line, and could not help wondering if this was the reason. If the loading employee just magically developed a distaste for my character within the 0.2 seconds we interacted, I have no words and the issue must be general customer service. However, given that they singled me out in treatment and I was the only Asian in line, this felt discriminatory. Regardless of reason, this reflects poorly on the company. Megabus needs to train and educate their employees better against discriminatory practices and in service. read more

Their policy is no refunds. Even when its their fault. They sometimes decide not to arrive. Not give you any notice of the trip cancellation. They waste your time and energy. Customer service makes you fight for a partial redemption code compensation. They dont care about you as a customer. They only want your money. read more
