First thing to know, Downtown Omaha is kind of a grocery store desert - or at least that was the impression I got from my visit. We were travelling with our toddler and while I KNOW she should be 100% off bottles, we are picking our fights and she still enjoys one with her milk in the morning and in the evening. That being said, we only brought two bottles and planned on cleaning them as we went. Our only problem was we forgot dish soap. After asking the front desk where would be the easiest place to find some they recommended Cubby's and they were right! While you pay convenience store prices, it was easy to pick up what we needed and they had a few options which was nice. The store itself has a good variety of food, snacks, odds and ends, and likely serves as a little grocer for anyone who lives nearby. I wouldn't say I loved this place so much I would definitely return, but I will say it was clean, had what we needed, and was conveneint, which really was about all I could ask for in a nearby convenience store.

It can be kind of hectic in there sometimes, but staff are nice and keep things going. They have a nice meat counter. Also they serve a large variety of prepared or ready-to-prepare gas-station foods such as chicken, sandwiches, and Godfather's pizza. They also have some nice cheeses and things if you want to be a little more fancy. I like that they have some vintage items from former local restaurants on display. Gives it a unique feel that's appropriate to this historic area. They sell gas here, too. What the heck is a gas station doing selling gyros? Obviously we needed to try it, or at the very least look at it. Upon entering the store and looking to the left, there's an entire section for Russian food. We were befuddled, as there's no signage advertising eastern European groceries outside at all. What's more, the entire wall is eastern European food. Seems like an oversight not to advertise, so I felt I had to post. There's freezers full of pierogies, ice creams, cakes, sausages, caviar, and more. There's entire food stands full of Russian chocolates, tea cookies, and desserts. On top of that, they have made to order gyros and Philly cheese steaks. Got the gyro with fries for $6.49 and was astounded by how good it was. The pita was nice and soft, and the meat was plentiful and seasoned well. The veggies and sauce weren't my favorite, but I can overlook those. Turns out the owner of this place also owns the gyro shop in The Food Court on 42nd St, and they know what they are doing. I'll be coming back, but may bring my own homemade sauce. So why did I decide to go there? I have a Hyundai vehicle that was recently updated so I could use Hyundai Pay for gas and parking at select locations. The Phillips 66 at this location was the nearest location so I decided to give it a try. Was easy to get to from my home once my GPS gave me the route. Pumps were modern and in good condition, and I was able to pay using either Hyundai Pay on my car or the Phillips 66/Conoco/76 "Fuel Forward" app from my phone. Contactless payment worked perfectly. The station also offers non-ethanol fuel choices which is rare for the area if you prefer not to put ethanol additives into your car (I don't mind the ethanol myself). The window cleaning bucking were full as were the paper cloth dispensers. Overall a solid choice for filling up your car. The station also has a convenience store that I didn't try on this visit. I hope more local gas stations will start taking contactless payments. The Omaha area is definitively behind with it come to taking NFC payments at the pump. On on a somewhat related subject, Omaha seems to be behind on electrical vehicles charging locations.

Previously, my only option has been at a Fantasy station. After Casey's purchased the local Fantasy's locations, I have been concerned about the availability of high octane fuel. Imagine my pleasant surprise to discover not only does Murphy Express offer 93 octane, but this location is closer to my house than any of my other options. I haven't been inside the convenience store, so I'm not able to speak to the amenities, but I am pleased at the new found source of high octane fuel so close to home.

Inside, you'll find all your favorite snacks and junk food, plus plenty of fountain drinks, energy drinks and a surprisingly diverse selection of beer (no liquor though). Prices are on par from what you'll find a grocery store. Up front, buy your smokes and lottery tickets and chat with the friendly cashier. I'm definitely adding Everest into my regular rotation of convenience stores!
