If you never went in, you'd never think it was anything more than a gas station. Beer at gas stations isn't anything new. But, beer that you could only get at a specialty market? That's pretty cool. Conversely, if you weren't paying attention and you missed the gas pumps, it looks like a specialty market, with a wide selection of things you could never think of buying. Pickled mushrooms? Interesting. Five different kinds of pickled mushrooms? Wow. It IS a specialty market, with a wide selection of things you could never think of buying. Why are there gourmet cookies with a label I can't read? I don't know, but they look delicious. Why is there kratom at the gas station? No idea, but it's pretty cool. Oh...and the gas prices are reasonable, and there is plenty of distancing going on here. I wish I lived here. No, not at the gas station/specialty shop, although that is an idea.

What the heck is a gas station doing selling gyros? Obviously we needed to try it, or at the very least look at it. Upon entering the store and looking to the left, there's an entire section for Russian food. We were befuddled, as there's no signage advertising eastern European groceries outside at all. What's more, the entire wall is eastern European food. Seems like an oversight not to advertise, so I felt I had to post. There's freezers full of pierogies, ice creams, cakes, sausages, caviar, and more. There's entire food stands full of Russian chocolates, tea cookies, and desserts. On top of that, they have made to order gyros and Philly cheese steaks. Got the gyro with fries for $6.49 and was astounded by how good it was. The pita was nice and soft, and the meat was plentiful and seasoned well. The veggies and sauce weren't my favorite, but I can overlook those. Turns out the owner of this place also owns the gyro shop in The Food Court on 42nd St, and they know what they are doing. I'll be coming back, but may bring my own homemade sauce. You definitely need to check this place out. Plus, think how hilarious it will be to tell someone you are taking them out to gyros, only to pull up to a gas station.

There are a lot of TVs there so if you're looking to watch any type of sports while enjoying a breakfast brunch or lunch, you have options. The food itself, though was surprisingly good for it being my first time I was actually impressed on the quality and how fast it came out no more than 10 minutes for four people. $30 for four people is not bad at all. Like $7 for just a burger by itself. I spend more here on a meal that's been sitting under a heat lamp than I would going to an actual restaurant (though Hyvee is already charging more in the main store for refrigerated leftovers than a fresh hot meal from an actual restaurant). Still, sometimes I'm in a real rush and willing to pay the price, and that's when it's a problem that there's just no way of knowing when the kitchen will be open and hot food available. I go at the same times on the same days each week and it's completely random. There's nothing posted about hours and I get the idea that they're just open on whatever day a cook feels like coming in. It's getting to the point where if I'm really hungry and low on time, I just can't take the gamble and stop here. I did that today and there was a sign up that they closed the kitchen at 1:30pm.
