The food is served buffet style mostly in comida mineira style. Some of the food was not placed on the heating elements and thus cold. Come early to avoid the long lines for the BBQ. When we were there (around 200 guests total I'd guess) they roasted a full pig and a huge each of cow ribs in addition to the regular BBQ fare. Food and deserts are nicely done overall. For kids there are some play activities (e.g., bouncing castle), but not very many. There's also a horse-drawn carriage making loops on the premises. Depending on age, kids will like this. Access is fine (15 minutes over a dirt road) and pretty close to Belo, on the Contagem side. It's not a great deal necessarily (pricey beverages, couvert) but if you're with young kids who eat for free it's worth it.

I came here for end-of-year drinks of my country's consular office who had rented a single room directly out the (antique) elevator on the second floor. In addition to the cool elevator, there are stain glass windows and antique hardwood floors. Food and drink service for our event was excellent but I assume this was all organized separately from the building. It's located on Alfonso Pena directly across from the municipal park.

It's a former ostrich farm and the place maintains its rustic character. There are a few farm animals as well as ponds for fishing (rods and food provided). Rooms are excellent with comfortable beds, great shower, and good airco. There is live music on the veranda of the restaurant/pool during the evening and plenty of fun organized activities for the kids all day long. The team organizing these is caring and fun and engages all ages. Oh yes, there's one large pool (super nice on hot days) and also a smaller heated one. Negatives? Maybe two minor ones. The dining area has little space for moving around when packed in the morning and at night for dinner. Also, there's virtually no cellphone coverage in the park and (free) wifi is weak, dropping out often, and spotty. Check-in is at 4pm meaning you'll need to book 2 nights to enjoy a full weekend. Check-out is at an early 2pm.

5 stars for a Holiday Inn?! While I know this hotel chain to be a budget-friendly option stateside,…read morehere in Belo Horizonte, it's straight up boutique! Something about the live wall, with lush with plants growing out of it, the friendly bilingual receptionist who told me about her New York upbringing and the chic furniture and room decor within my standard lair, had me thoroughly impressed. Holiday Inn is kicking it up a notch and certainly winning in style points. But it's not just style, the wi-fi was fully functional and speedy from my room (I even had a nice desk to work from), and there's a fitness center and a pool. If my room was any indication, I'll bet both are just as new and freshly painted. I literally felt like I was the first person to sleep in the bed or use the shower. If a hotel room had a "new car" smell, this one sure would. I also loved how well located this hotel was. Nearby, there were tons of options where you could eat and drink, and the dog-friendly Patio mall within walking distance was a great perk. Next time I'm in BH, I won't hesitate to stay here again. In fact, I can't wait! PS: the room service menu looked legit!

They relocated the restaurant to the mezzanine floor where the breakfast is served. The menu is limited and the food was decent in taste but had looked like it was prepared well in advanced and sat under a heating lamp for several hours. It was quite pricey, running R$80 for a shrimp risotto dish or shrimp with brandy can run you R$120. I tried the ravioli, which was good in flavor though the presentation was a little messy. The chicken with hazelnut was also tasty but so dry. At the end they couldn't get the credit card machine to work, probably due to the spotty internet, so we ended up paying in cash. Breakfast buffet was much better with all the typical options (cereal, yogurt, cheese and meat, a few hot plates like stuffed tomato). At least they have a Nepresso machine for fresh espressos. They weren't able to upgrade us to the mecure members floor 18 or 20. No free drinks or newspaper or any perks. In fact they downgraded us to the room they had available, in a handicapped room with a chair shower and raised toilet seat. Maybe because there was a convention during the same time, but it's hard to believe there weren't better rooms. The room was a little gross with random peoples' hair on the bed. The bare amenities included a small bottle of shampoo, a tiny bar of hand soap and shower cap; not impressive. They restocked with a bigger bar of soap the next night, but still doesn't cover the regular amenities. There's a safe box in the room, a mini bar and a desk. The gym looked decent but opens a few steps up to a small, poorly lit indoor pool. Lastly the check out service was very rude when we left. Will not return here!
