So it's obviously an emergency when you visit MedVet and this was the case when I brought my 10 1/2 year old MaltiPoo baby in last weekend. I didn't have an appointment or anything last Saturday but had a feeling that my doggie needed to be seen. As soon as I walked in the door, the person at the front desk called someone to come take her back and assess her vitals- before I had even completed any paperwork. My dog was clearly in distress. By the time I had filled out the "paperwork" that was sent digitally to my phone, I was advised that my dog was receiving oxygen and was feeling better. That brought me so much comfort. I was advised from the beginning that emergency care would not be cheap and was willing to pay the $189 (approximate) cost of an initial examination. I was fairly quickly given a private waiting/exam room and a very kind, intelligent doctor informed me that they wanted to do further Xrays on my dog because they suspected there were heart issues involved. I was informed that it would be approximately $700 extra and agreed. While it felt like a long wait, realistically it wasn't and I received the news that my little dog was suffering from a collapsed trachea and congestive heart failure. This was not easy news to receive but the vet was both compassionate and direct. My visit was approximately three hours, which I believe was reasonable under the circumstances. My dog was prescribed medications that brought her pronounced comfort. The final bill was roughly $850 but I am grateful that my dog has responded well to the medications and seems to be doing well. I was further impressed that MedVet communicated with our primary vet and there was seamless follow through. I am very grateful for all that MedVet did to care for my dog on a weekend. Had to make the decision no pet owner ever wants to make, to let their pup cross the rainbow bridge. I called early Sunday and was told a doctor comes in at noon so I was sent paperwork to fill out beforehand. I got there at 11:58, was put into a room right away and the whole process took 25 minutes. They were very kind, respectful and understanding. I'm not sure why some get bad experiences / reviews. I hope not for a long time I'll have to be back, but it was as good as the experience could be to honor my Delilah after 18 years. read more

i brought my dog in. he was given a very quick "exam," without bloodwork or xrays even being offered. he was given a short physical exam through which a tech diagnosed him with IVDD. three different people repeated that diagnosis to me with full confidence, and i was given medication and paperwork, and sent home. i set up a follow-up with my vet. three days later, my dog reacts negatively to the medication and vomits. he stops eating. i call the emergency number and i am told it is a typical reaction and to just keep trying to feed him and follow-up with my vet. i hold faith and carry-on for four more days, yet i am unsuccessful in getting him to eat. he has lost considerable weight and is constantly thirsty. looking at the paperwork i once again see that the hospital and emergency phoneline at 24/7. so, at 0500 wednesday morning after finding my dog hiding in a corner, i call the number. no answer. my husband and i bring him to the hospital: a sign on the door says the hours have changed. the paperwork does not. mercifully, we found another hospital who gave him a full exam immediately and determined a large mass in his belly pressing on his spine and multiple organ failure. my dog was euthanized right then and there. i am upset that i was not given more thorough treatment and rushed off with minimal effort. that is my ultimate review. it may have just been a bad, busy week, or maybe those involved were truly believing in their quick diagnosis, but my dog was not given the care promised and therefore expected. i will not recommend this hospital to anyone, and will keep sharing my story as a warning. read more

Dr. Anderson was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in helping us work through our options...which included finding and confirming a doctor who could perform a scope, in hopes that would work. She worked past their closing time to be sure all arrangements were made. So fortunately, the scope worked and we were able to take our girl home the next morning. We have an emergency with our cat tonight. I called before 9 pm, they close at midnight. Lady on the phone was cold and wouldn't even listen to what my concerns were. Just kept saying, "we're at capacity". There was no consideration, no compassion, no recommendation on where else to try. We are now driving to Cleveland. Two hours the opposite direction. Years ago, before i became a nurse, i managed a veterinary hospital. We didn't know the word, capacity. We stayed and helped everyone that needed help. Animals meant something to us. I'm sad there's no 24 hr vet in Toledo anymore. I'm even more disheartened that this place is our only option after dark. read more

We had to take our 17 year old cat there at 7:30 at night because we knew it was time to put him to rest. We knew he had tumors and blood clots and it was just a waiting game. That night he'd lost his ability to walk and was in obvious pain. The staff were amazing and understanding. They gave us a private room which allowed us to say goodbye in our own time. They made all the arrangements for his cremation and arranged to have them delivered to us. During an awful moment for our family we appreciated their kindness and professionalism. read more

I had to visit MedVet for a cut in my small dog's foot. The toe nail was torn and had to be clipped. $378! A few days later I returned not knowing there were other options for vet care after hours in the city. My dog had a stomach issue that was concerning. We were there for over three hours. We saw the vet for a quick exam. An X-ray was ordered and fluids given. The X-ray was viewed by the Vet and said a board certified Radiologist will read it the next day and they would notify me. It's Saturday the X-rays haven't been seen by the radiologist yet ! I'll never go there again. They don't care! They also charged $677! read more

We have now taken each of our pets there at least once. Every time, they have been overwhelmingly caring and got us seen rather quickly. When my oldest dog was faking an illness, they took it seriously and ruled out everything they could to set my mind at ease. When my youngest dog grew an insane abcess overnight, they got her in and out of surgery so fast and even sent her home in a little blanket that she is obsessed with to this day. And lastly, when our cat passed suddenly and there was nothing to be done, they were so sympathetic and helpful with options. They even sent us a condolences card. Nightmare Euthanasia! Sunday night, May 5th, around 8pm my elderly dog suffered a major seizure and we thought it would be best to put her down. With our options limited, we were forced to use MetVet's "services" Upon arriving, they had a metal table waiting for my beloved dog and the receptionist eagerly wanting to take my credit card. They wheeled away my dog and put us in a private room down the hall, after they made sure I paid first. We were in this room patiently waiting for probably 10-15 minutes before they brought in my dog. I can remember hearing her screaming in terror and anguish as they brought her in...still strapped to the same metal table. These MONSTERS took my dog, strapped her to a table, and let her fucking sit there, kicking and screaming, the entire time without any kind of sedative. The incompetent nurses proceeded to bring her into the room STILL WITHOUT ANY SEDATIVE, her barks were hoarse from crying out for help. Seeing her that way just made me want to get it over with and put her out of her misery. So the doctor, myself, and a friend tired to hold down my dog so the doctor could administer the euthanasia shot. Come to find out that the tube they attached to my dogs leg was kicked out due to her flailing while STRAPPED DOWN TO A METAL TABLE. I'm a wreck at this point and they wheel her out to finnaly administer some sedatives. Some nurse, trying to cover their fuck up, had the audacity to tell me that that they don't administer sedatives without the owners concent...They never asked me and I was there to euthanize my dog, pretty sure that's a good indication that I would be alright with sedating my dog. These people robbed me of any kind of final peace or chance to say goodbye to my best friend and made me pay for it. Hell is too good for the people working at MedVet. I wish them nothing but what they did to me. I hope that on their deathbeds they all get strapped to metal tables. I hope they are all surrounded by loved ones. I hope their own screams of pain and terror drown out any kind of peaceful ending they might have with their family. KEEP YOUR ANIMALS SAFE! I brought my cat, Piper, to MedVet this past weekend because she was having terrible trouble with her breathing and we didn't know why. Her own vet was at a loss and wasn't able to get her in that day. I've seen other reviews claiming that this facility leaves people waiting for hours to take or care for their pets, but in my experience we called ahead with our ETA and they had someone waiting to come get her from my car and care for her immediately. I believe that my cat received excellent care. She went in refusing to eat and barely able to breathe and came out alert and responsive. They also did testing to try and determine the cause of her problems and ultimately it looked like cancer. The vet warned us that taking her home would probably lead to a swift decline in her health and they were right. Piper's breathing issues returned and she couldn't sleep all night. When she was discharged they told us that we could bring her back if she was in respiratory distress again, but we knew that she wasn't going to get any better in the long run and we didn't want to prolong her suffering. Ultimately, we helped her to peacefully pass on with her primary vet this afternoon. I am heartbroken by the loss of Piper, she was only 5 and was one of the sweetest cats I've ever known, but it helps me to know that she was in good hands in her final days. When she came in they offered me several treatment plans with varying prices points. Ultimately we paid for her to spend a day with MedVet so that she could have some oxygen and testing done and I don't regret it because it allowed her to have a more peaceful end to her life. The whole staff was wonderful, despite their Covid regulations, when I asked if I could come in and say goodnight to her before driving home, they allowed me to do so. They were patient every time I called to check in on her and even sent me a photo so I could see how she was doing. Ultimately, I think MedVet is what it says it is! They are an emergency room for animals, ERs for humans are expensive and so are ERs for animals. ERs for humans treat their sickest patients first, and so do ERs for animals! So, if you have a pet in dire need of help this is a good place to go, if your pet is just under the weather then find or wait to see a regular vet. read more

I'm going to state that I am grieving so take my own experience with a grain of salt. Medvet was a very poor experience. My dog refused to come out of the car because she was scared and in pain, the vet tech did not help me get her out of the car. I asked if she had any treat that I could use to entice her she stated no, and then watched me drag her out from under the car seat by her feet. I then waited for three hours 9PM-12AM to have a conversation that summed up to we had to put my dog down. This was excruciating for me to know that my dog was left scared, alone and in pain in a dog kennel for the last hours of her life. I asked for them to bring my dog back to me to say goodbye, after 20 minutes I called again. They had forgotten and then started on the task of bringing her back to me. They offered me a clay print of her paw, I asked for two, I received zero. It's hard for me to reconcile the pain that my animal experienced that night because of MedVet. I hope my pet''s last memories were good, I trust they were cause that thought carries me forward despite my last time with her. Don't go here, don't give their poor practices more money read more

I hate to be this person but go quite possibly anywhere besides here brought my lab in who just had 14 puppies because she stopped eating and drinking I would have gone to our normal vet but I couldn't wait any longer with how weak she was getting after getting there and sitting in the waiting room for an hour and a half we were seen all the staff but one very nice lady were rude including the vet after getting X-rays and blood work done the vet prescribed a couple different medications and brought her back to our room but wasn't going to give her fluids until I requested it as my dog was laying there panting and severely dehydrated . After all of that other than finally getting my dog fluids we accomplished nothing for a small fee of over a grand. We took her to her vet once they opened up and did an ultrasound figured out her problem and we were out the door and on our way for less than 300. The big thing here isn't the price that is what it is but if I'm going give you business at least act like you care in the slightest bit about my pet and to the one staff member that did thank you read more

Absolutely horrible experience. My dog was diagnosed with cancer and I knew I was to make him comfortable with the time he had left. I hoped and hoped it would happen when his perfect vet was open, but of course, his time came in the middle of the night and the only 24 hour vet in the area is MedVet Toledo. He was suffering and barely breathing and they insisted on taking all of my information before giving him oxygen to help him breath. When they finally took him in, they needed to handle the bill and urn details before I was able to say my last goodbyes. By the time they did bring him back to me, they said he was starting to go on his own and that the vet was coming in with him to give him the euthanasia. Without warning, the vet inserted the liquid in him and it took my dad saying "hey are you doing it right now?" she responded that she was and I had about 30 seconds to say goodbye to my best friend. Moral of the story, I was given no communication on what was happening or when. Precious minutes were, in my opinion, completely wasted. The lack of compassion was astonishing. At this extremely vulnerable period of time, that's all I would have asked. A sense of urgency, more communication, and compassion. The entire experience could have just been handled differently. I feel so passionately about another 24 hour option in Toledo. For anyone out there that has the capital, passion, and resources available, please consider investing! read more

Horrible experience. HORRIBLE. DO NOT GO. They do not value your time, nor do they value your emotions and feelings. This is advertised as an emergency vet. Here is my personal experience in which I wasted no time to get home to tell others about, because upset, mad, disappointed, and down right angry does not do it justice.....but a review will help steer others away from having the same experience that I was unfortunate to have today. I left Southeast Michigan at noon time with an hour ride ahead of me, but was referred to this practice by another veteranian in my area. Unfortunately that referring practice could not see my dog today, and my dog could no longer wait for help, or me for a diagnosis of what was actually going on with my dog. (my dog has had severe diarrhea for 3 days, but has been eating light and drinking water. Today I decided he seemed weak and lethargic and may be in need of some medical attention.) I arrived at 1pm at Med Vet. Called and announced my arrival. At 1:30pm they came and got my dog from my vehicle. At 1:59pm the vet tech called to get details of what was happening with the dog, and any information that I might be helpful giving them to get to the bottom of what may be ailing him. AND WE WAIT. AND WE WAIT SOME MORE. Mind you that this is an emergency vet. My first call into the office is at 4:30pm asking for a update on my dog. I am told that my dog has NOT been seen as of yet, and the dog is merely being observed. I'm already annoyed. 3 hours in. I wait......and wait. People come and go with their pets, and there is where I remain waiting for any word, or update. I got nothing. I decided to try and be patient, but if 6:30pm arrived prior to getting any word, or phone call, that would be the line in the sand that was drawn for REMOVAL of my business. I am not paying for a service that I was not valued, nor my time, or my emotions of being the owner of a sick dog that I felt needed emergency care! Shame on you. Shame on your staff. Compassion and a reasonable timeline should be things that are on the top of your list in your line of work. UNACCEPTABLE today, and I plan on sharing this review on many platforms. After getting my dog back after 5.5 hours, and wanted NO answers because I have NO intention of paying any kind of bill from you folks, I retrieved my dog after some cross words and obvious irritation. I will be bringing my dog some where else in the AM. I just hope that his condition does not deteriorate. WHO goes to an emergency room vet to wait 5.5 hours in a parking lot in their vehicle with NO updates. Then to top it all off at the end while retrieving my dog, no apologies for WASTING MY WHOLE DAY! read more

I will never use this place again. I will make the drive to the Maumee location. My dog was bit by another dog last night. It wasn't life threatening, but I couldn't get the bleeding to stop. Almost 5 hours I sat in my car waiting in the parking lot. All they did was flush out the wounds and give me pain meds and antibiotics. It took 5 hours for that?. Thank God it wasn't a major bleed. He would have bled out by the time they saw him. Then the dr. was concerned because his temperature was 105 degrees. Well no shit! My baby was in there terrified and in pain for hours. read more

No precaution was taken when it was common sense that a scared and frightened cat is going to run. The tech was not held responsible and the cat had run out onto the highway. I brought my dog here for help, 11 hours later he is dead . "This office goes by several names but 1 address." I took my buddy here, I was asking questions about my dog's triage and the vet said she felt confronted by my many questions. I have no clue about my doggies condition after a long period of time and was very worried. I called and asked my husband to try and help my dog because I got the feeling he might be able to help him . So I went home leaving my dog at the vet in their care and He returned to the vet. I left my dog there thinking he was being given emergency room treatment, I put my faith and my dog's life in her hand's and the decisions about my doggie's care to my husband. She never said my dog should stay. She said he will feel better after the medicine they prescribed but didn't dose kicks in. They told my husband to give him the first dose after we took little buddy home. They didn't even give him any life saving medicine. So we did, we gave him the prescribed dose as soon as we got home. a few hours later I called MEDVET back with questions because i felt he looked much worse, much worse. I was told that she didn't leave any notes and had left for the day. I would need to bring him back in to see another vet if I had any questions. He didn't receive the care he needed, the reason i took him there. They didn't even take notes. We returned to the vet, "My precious little buddy and I" ,after he really took a bad turn.. He died. I didn't know he was dead. They gave him a box with his name spelled on it That was it. The doctor should have kept her personal feelings out of it, She kept me from being able to communicate with her by not allowing me to ask her questions. Not allowed to express my concerns, Not allowed to beg please save my friend . He is family, I am super offended and hurt . This veterinary emergency care did NOT provide emergency care I am sure they will have some sort of explanation as to how they care and why My dog was treated this way. I AM DEVISTATED.. , I will never get another pet if it means this is the only 24 hour animal hospital available. I cant recommend this place. I wish my actual vet was 24 hours, BUT, now i don't need a vet who absolutely loved my dog. I just know that him and all of his staff are sad today after hearing the news and how this visit went. . Everybody loved my dog, everyone. I can still hear him and I don't know how to handle this heartache And after the fact... The staff at MEDVVET has the nerve too apologize because they say she can be blunt. Maybe she should be more compassionate and treat the animals with love. Maybe she should work in another field entirely. One that need's people with a cruel heart. Absolutely do not recommend MedVet in Toledo, OH. The most ignorant, uneducated, careless people Ive ever encountered in my life. I have a pug that they severely neglected while in their care. We brought him during emergent circumstances in severe pain, breathing difficulty, and lethargic. They made sure to let us sit in a room for 2.5 hours alone with zero care Or urgency. He soon became unconscious and started to lose control of his bowels and bladder. We let them know what was happening and they told us it was because he was in pain. They then told us they were going to wash out his ears, gave us a pain med and told us to bring him back if he stops breathing. 10 minutes down the road he stops breathing. We bring him back, they take him in the back room and 10 minutes later they told us he was dead. Needless to say these people deserve a special spot in hell. I hope others see this to avoid the same mistake we made which was taking our poor dog to these horrible people. read more

I recently brought my pet in and I was highly disappointed. Not by the nurses, but by Dr. Bean. The nurses were very sweet, but when talking to Dr. Bean, he questioned why we brought our pet in if we didn't want to immediately start medication. Personally, I found this extremely rude and his tone sounded almost sarcastic. We called prior and the nurses recommended we brought him in. We were concerned about our pet's health. I believe that consulting with our primary vet would be a good idea before starting a medication without knowing all the facts. Otherwise, the care was great. I just expected there would be a little more compassion and a little less sarcasm. read more

Please avoid this place like the plague. DO NOT take your dear pets here. They are cold, con artists. They overcharge and do not do much to help. My pet passed away just a couple days after having been in this place for care. My advice is to try with your trusted local vet to see if they can help . This is not a pet hospital. This is a glorified vet clinic that charges 10x what your local veterinarian would. Wished I would have tried first at my normal vet to have electrolytes given to my pet. I think that would have possibly helped my loved one quicker. No other vets could get our very sick, suffering 16 yo cat in for at least 2wks. At 2am a couple weeks ago she was at the end. I called them they got us in immediately, the staff was good especially a man/tech? named " Jessie". We both got to be in room with her, holding her as long as we needed. The process was compassionate & painless. We were sent home with akeepsake with her name, pawprint & lock of hair. She was also placed in a small box/coffin as we wanted to bury her at home. These kind "extras" came at no addl charge. A week later they sent us a sweet condolence card. They may be higher in price but you can't put a price on being able to get your animal help at any time 24 hours a day 7 days a week. read more

MedVet has always been there for us, we have used them more times that I'd hoped, but so grateful they are here in Toledo for us. We have used them as an emergency after hours vet clinic for our ill dogs.. We have used their Internal Medicine Dr for specialty treatment (as referred by our family vet) and we have used the Fabulous Surgeon, Dr Ball for one of our dogs leg surgeries. The front desk staff has always been kind and thorough. Whether scheduling appointments or helping check out in those difficult times. The animal tech are incredibly kind, caring and thoughtful. Obviously, most times you are at an Emergency Clinic, it is very stressful. The animal staff techs really help to ease the stress. The Doctors at the Hospital are exactly what I would expect and more. The ER doctors are thorough, kind and help guide us thorough options and navigate information. Dr Anderson in particular really helped us through one of our most difficult times. One of our dogs has had to have both her back legs operated on, and we couldnt have chosen a better surgeon than Dr Ball. Is MedVet more expensive than a family Vet.. of course it is. They are a business, they are open and staffed 24/7 for us and our Pets, .. they have bills and people to pay. Just as an human ER or specialist is more expensive, so are they. I brought my 2 yr old cat to the Douglas rd Toledo Oh location on January 2 2022. Our cat had labored breathing and rapid heart rate. She had not been acting like she felt well so i was very concered. I was hopeful you could help her/us. We could not go inside so i dont know what you did as far as examining her but i was told she was given oxygen. The staff kept in contact with us thru phone and updated me with the obvious observation of breathing complications and rapid heart rate. You did not give us a cause or a reason for this. Then the vet told me over the phone that they could do xrays and bloodwork to find out why this was the case but it would cost $700+ to proceed. Of course looking at my sons face in tears we would have done anything for her but i didnt have that money upfront. I expressed that i dont have that money right now. Thinking back you could have offered that i could make a payment now and pay a little at a time. Once the vet heard my response to no money her next thing she said was "well ok are you in the parking lot for release of the cat"...I was god smacked and in tears now. I had told you that i could not get her into anywhere else for i tried other places and they had no spots available. You knew that you were my last option for the day. So instead of being a compationate person with love for animals, uou were a money greedy person that no longer had time for us and wanted us to just come get the cat and pay $100+.for visit. I picked her up and returned home. Our cat lyed on our floor in distress and sufered with discomfort for the remainder of the day. My son watched her get worse right infront of him. He is young and this was traumatic to all of us. I put our cat in bed with me so i coud keep a close eye on her and lost hrs of sleep. The next morning I got up early and called a place outside of my area through word of month and referral for no one could believe what i went though previous day. I told them what happened and they couldn't believe i have had to go through this and told me to get there asap. When we arrived and they greeted us with urgency and warmth and compassion INSIDE THE FACILITY NOT OUT IN A COLD PARKING LOT FOR 2 HRS! We sat inside the room with them as he examined her. They did exrays and vitals. The vet had true concerrn and compassion. He gave our cat pain relief and oxygen. For the 1st time in 2 days our beloved pet was comfortable instead of suffering. Upon further examination he noticed she had no blood flow to her extremities and was now dying. He asked us questions about the day before care recieved and the moment he heard it he shook his head in disbelief. He couldn't hide his thoughts on what you did. The fact that she still was able to walk and communicate the day before means that you could have done something to prevent such an awful prolonged agonizing suffering way to go. If she could had been treated the day before there was a chance of survival. Not 1 time did the vet ask for money, not one time did he not call her by her name, not one time did i have sit in the parking lot clingy to hope. Her heart just couldn't go anymore. After seeing her suffer for 2 days and it was too long to go without blood flow we made the painful awful decision to put her to sleep. They gave us alone time with her before she was euthanized. They hugged us and consoled us and still no talk of payment. We left with our beloved pet in a blanket in a box. His offices response to us was this "No payment should be neccessary before treating an animal in need of life saving medical treatment" this is how a real animal lover is to me. We did pay them tho, we paid $82 for the pain and comfort medicine, for xrays and diangnosis. I cannot believe you and you facility!! It has been a few days now and upon sharing my story with others in our community and social media, I realize now that i made a terrible detriment mistake wasting precious time at your office. Not 1 good review was given to me about Med Vet as far as cost for care. I will make sure that not one good thing is said about you and your care. Im sure it's no skin off your back...for desperate people will do anything for their family and that's what she was to us but i did not have money like that. You could have helped instead of worrying about money. My 9yr old son has not slept well and has not smiled in days his heart is broken and full of thought of how she laid on our foor dying. You are a shameful human.You are a terrible person. A money 1st then treatment facility. This kitty was my 9 yr old boys best friend! She was so special to us. You could have did more for her and she would still be with us today. You might have a cushy bank account but we did not. We are burying her today on this 20° day. I dont know why i think this review will even impact your day but i have to share what a shitty human you are. I wish you nothing. read more

We took our cat there for an emergency labor. The staff and doctors probably save our cat and her kittens lives. They were very transparent upfront about the possible costs. They took great compassionate care of our pets. They were very honest with the billing and the cost was fair. Very good communication. Wait time a bit long but worth it. Highly recommend. read more

Our dog had an emergency and we thought we were going to have to put her down. The vet gave meds, good advice and great care. Our dog is home and still with us recovering. So glad this place was open and they were so kind and caring. We had to wait quite a while but it's a hospital. Our dog is worth the wait. I'm so glad they were open. Thank You!!!!!
