Lindsay emailed me asking if I could come in for an interview, and when I saw the job title "Director of Legal Division, Recruiting", I decided to google the company.... which is, of course, when I learned that they are a staffing agency. In general, I don't like to deal with folks who aren't upfront and this felt like a red flag but I scheduled an interview because I felt like it couldn't hurt to go see what they're about. (It is worth noting that I was asked to bring two forms of ID for payroll and that felt shady too.) I used that opportunity to for a bit more about the position via email and was told that it was in the early stages and that they needed more information themselves. Um, what? At that point, I became ill and had to reschedule the interview. I sent another email requesting more information. Lindsay said she would "try her best" to obtain it, but that I would need to come in anyway. Finally, I composed a professional but stern email, basically calling them out and stating that the lack of transparency was making me uncomfortable, and that I needed to know exactly what was on the table. At that juncture, I received a lengthy email explaining that yes, I applied to the Office Manager position, but that they have two to three available and would need ID because they're temp to perm, and the agency issues your pay for the first three months. She copied and pasted an example of a job description she was referring to. I wrote back thanking her for the clarification but never received a response. Though she was very nice, I feel like there was dishonesty from the very start, and that I had to do a lot of insisting and digging to get any actual facts. It doesn't make me feel like they'd be very useful in placement, negotiation, or back up - and at that point, I'm better off on my own.

Following my last role, I hit the…read morepavement hard and met with every recruiting group under the sun.. some were good, others not so much. My experience with Meredith and her team at Windsor (Jill, Maggi) was nothing short of amazing -- think of her as Jerry Maguire to my Rod Tidwell. She took the time to understand who I was and what I wanted, she spoke WITH me rather than AT me. The misconception is that all recruiters perform and behave the same way 'since it's in their best interest', but frankly not everyone values quality over quantity. Where Meredith stood out most was her relentless & aggressive approach to the work.. whereas others would simply submit me for roles and call it a day, Meredith cultivated her network and PUSHED for my candidacy. As a result, she helped me to land incredible top-tier interviews.. one of which resulted in a phenomenal offer that I recently accepted. Her investment in me was unparalleled, and I couldn't recommend her and her team more if you value your career and advancement as I do.

Working with Advice Personnel and Brian S., specifically, has become one such case. I've dealt with several recruiters/headhunters over the past 6 months (I use the word "dealt" very intentionally) and none have come close to providing the level of support, initiative, warmth, and clarity that Brian S. brought to every interaction, no matter how small. Brian was incredibly professional throughout my hiring journey while also imbuing the process with a sense of profound investment on his part. I felt like he had my back at all times and, like any great tactician, was able to keep the complexities and logistical stresses of the process veiled so that I could focus on giving the best interviews possible. Because of this, I landed a great new job at an incredible company. It feels silly to write this about a recruiter but I'll sincerely miss our phone calls. Even when the subject matter might have been mildly stress-inducing (what job search doesn't have it's moments?) I always had a smile on my face by the end. Brian S. is superlative and I cannot recommend him enough.

Initially, at the onset of the conversation, I specifically asked to speak with Gerry Sheridan. She's the person who I saw on my LinkedIn feed yesterday and I had already taken the initiative to send her an introductory email last night. In hindsight, seeing the wonderful reviews about Gerry, I wish that I had spoken with her instead of the insolent woman-child who answered my call. I informed the person of my very unique situation being new to DC and she immediately began interrupting me in mid-sentence. I guess she assumed that what I had said was more than enough for her to hear. Eventually, when I was able to get a word in edgewise, I told her that the interruptions were a COMPLETE turnoff. I also informed her that 40 hours is actually considered the maximum amount of full-time hours and anything over that was considered overtime. I don't understand how this individual in employed with a staffing agency and doesn't understand that, under the Affordable Care Act, 32 hours per week is considered full-time. Of course, she wouldn't let me continue the sentence to explain that much to her. And what was her excuse? "Well, I have another call coming in 20 seconds so I was trying to rush this conversation along..." WHO SAYS THAT TO A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYEE?!?! If this is the first point of contact for anyone who calls your office, she is doing a major disservice to your company. I have NO intentions of calling back and I will definitely inform everyone that if they want to receive subpar customer service at the onset, call C-Suite Assistants. I'm beyond disgusted.

I say ok and of course never heard from her yet again. When I contacted her to let her know she wasted my entire afternoon, she then responds with a lengthy rather bizarre phone message apologizing and saying " I know you must hate me" and an email saying "I absolutely understand you're furious and for thinking the worse of me."It seems like I can give you a hundred reasons and it won't be enough, but I just wanted to say I am sorry from the bottom of my heart for "wasting your time" and whatever inconvenience I have caused you, and for accommodating my schedule."
