This restaurant of Ltur und MediaControl boss Karlheinz Kögel is said to be one of the best of Baden-Baden's scene. So nosy me just had to check it out longing for some good sushi far away from home.
We got a table outside on their huge terrace facing the little river Oos and the parkway. Nice!
I didn't get the proper chance to check out the inside of the restaurant itself but what I saw from the outside looks pretty expensive and plush. Kinda overloaded and flamboyant. But maybe that's what their usual clientele expects.
(Bourgeois people in their mid-forties acting like they are God's gift to gastronomy, d'oh!)
As we opened the menu it was swankily illuminated on the inside. Cool stuff, never seen that before :) A definite fun bonus!
Well, as for the drinks they have loads of different brands of mineral water there. The bottles coming from all kinds of places like Scandinavia, USA, New Zealand, Japan etc.
That's why prices range from 12 Euro a bottle up to 169 Euro. However they've got "common" mineral water, too. No worries.
Beer prices are between 3 and 4.50 Euro which is just fine for such a restaurant.
As we were there for sushi we didn't check out the main menu, sorry.
Sushi prices start from 2 Euro for one (and I mean literally one) piece of Kappa maki up to a mixed platter for 60 Euro (12 nigiri).
My fave Ebi (prawn) nigiri would cost 5 Euro a piece which is ridiculously expensive.
That was my impression of the sushi menu anyway:
Way too expensive compared to its quality.
I mean it was alright but nothing like the freshness and taste I am used to from Hamburg's or Tokyo's (sorry) sushi bars.
My French friend even left a couple of his bits and pieces on his plate... Maybe we are just spoilt and the Baden-Baden folks love it?
Nevertheless staff were friendly and attentive, maybe taking themselves a little too serious but okay... Taking that into consideration I was a little disappointed that their English was so average only. Sometimes they couldn't find the proper words to explain drinks or food to my English speaking friend.
Anyway, it was a nice experience and maybe I would have loved it if I wasn't as spoilt as I am by now when it comes to quality sushi.
I might be coming back for sipping a beer in a sophisticated way and atmosphere à la Baden-Baden though. read more
