Beyond the fact that one can access gratis medical visits--thanks, Canada!--this clinic is a 'clean, well-lighted' & welcoming space for women from all social strata. My visit with the RN began ten minutes after my 10.30 appt. time. The client just before me had left at about a quarter past the hour. Be prepared to wait a bit, I guess. Not used to not having to pay for every little thing regarding health care, I was compelled to make a financial donation after my visit as both a thank-you & a way to support what is a very necessary women's institution. When I inquired, I was told that the collective would gladly accept a donation of women's clothing. Preferring to make a monetary donation, I was sent to chat with the clinic's director. PayPal would be the way to go, if one is so inclined.

If you're a woman looking for a walk-in clinic in the area, I highly recommend them.

The…read moreinsufficient number of staff are overworked (probably underpaid), which leads to impersonal and poor service - no acknowledgment upon arrival - no communication regarding how long the wait is - the line up is long. If there were some competition, this business would be out of business. What IS available, which most people do not know and which most doctors don't tell their patients, is that you CAN go to the labs at hospitals, i.e., VGH and UBC, where the service and care are much more professional, friendly, and timely.

So I have been to quite a few LifeLabs in the city, and I've realized that it's all a crap shoot,…read morehow "good" or "bad" one's experience will be at any of them. You could go to the same one 4 times and it's great, and on the 5th visit, it'll be awful. You just never know how busy any one of them will be, if the computers/servers will be working that day (they're usually up and running but occasionally there are tech issues), or if they'll be at full staff capacity or if some staff are out sick. There are so many variables, and many are out of the control of each individual lab site. Recently, my doc ordered a ton of medical testing for me (bloodwork, EKC, a 24-hour cardiac monitor, and more). The usual LifeLab sites I go to do not offer EKC testing so I decided to come here. After my appointment was booked, my good friend and her husband warned me against this site, saying it's always "a zoo" and terribly backed up. But it was too late for me to change my appointment by then, so I just steeled myself to accept a long wait and a headache, My appt was for today, with the bloodwork and EKC scheduled for 10:35am and the cardiac halter fitting at 11:05 am. Because I'm not familiar with the area, I left home early and arrived early. (Note: there is a ton of metered parking on the street on 10th, but there's a lot of free parking on the side streets I snagged a spot on Trimble). I was there at 10am - and the place was EMPTY. The two girls at the counter where I checked in were so pleasant, and I was taken back immediately! I could not believe my good luck. The phlebotomist was incredibly nice (I wish I had gotten her name). She drew my blood and I didn't even feel it. She then did my EKC. And then another girl came in for the cardiac monitor fitting. She too was lovely. Went over all the directions, and I left the lab by 10:30. Yes, in and out in half an hour. My scheduled appt wasn't supposed to start until 10:35! I really lucked out. I know it's not always this way, and I could go back tomorrow at 10am and it might be a zoo. But today it was amazing. Yes, when I was leaving, there were three people waiting in the waiting area and a few more people were entering the lab. But no-one was there when I arrived, so perhaps 10am is the magic time? (I still think it's just arbitrary luck). All I know is, it was super efficient today and everyone was super nice.

However when I did finally see the doctor, she was very emphatic and seemed to take the time to hear my symptoms and concerns. It is only she who raised this one star experience to four. Here's why: I arrived at the stein walk in clinic on burrard to find no other people waiting. Filling out the most basic intake form ever I was made to show my care card even though she didn't even look at it. She then offered a 3pm appointment to which I replied that didn't work for me as I need to be in west van at 3:30pm. She then looked at the pathetic intake form and noted my care card number and suggested I walk to their OTHER location on Dunsmuir for a 1:10pm appointment. So I do. Upon arriving two people are there, fill forms and leave. I advise what the other person said and this gal tries to get me to re-complete said intake form. I ask that she call since it feels her approach is disbelief so she does and here I sit for the hour waiting. I checked out their website. They offer to *fast track* for $40 (?!!!) on their website to which I feel is poor personal taste. The front desk gal was dressed in a hockey jersey and seemed to lack medical professionalism in her manner and lack of attention. I didn't care she as wearing a jersey - go Canucks - I just wanted to feel better sooner and hopefully within my own time restraints. Not terribly optimistic at that point. Now seated in the patient room and it's very stark. Looks like prison met ikea on design. Very not-homy. After seeing the doctor etc it finally occurred to me unlike a usual clinic where all us sickies accumulate there in sight, this office lines patients up like ducks to be called back with approximate appointment times. Different than what I'm used to for sure.

I find it hard to believe that a for profit care company, like Well Health, is allowed to operate…read moreunder the Canadian Health Act and I plan to complain until I put them out of business. The doctor I had for yearsretired and her patients were assigned to a doctor here. I have worked in doctor's offices and the only people more incompetent than the staff are the doctors. Staff (that they are inusufferably rude goes without saying): 1. They never answer the phones and their phone menu is long and incomprehensible. I have waitied for up to 3 hours and no one ever picked up. The only way to book an in person appointment is by going to the clinic, and the only availability is for a telephone appointment. When I finally did get an appointment during Covid I waited online in the office for 20 minutes, when I reached the rude receptionist, I was told I was 4 minutes late and I would have to reschedule. I thought she was joking, so I laughed, 'Next', was her reply! 2. They lost my chart, well, really only most of it, but it was probably in storage. They only had a month out 40 years. Hmmm and how is this storage area sorted? This is the kind of place that could forget someone in an exam room and find them dead the following week. 3. One question per appointment. They cut you off, if you try to skirt this rule. You can book online for telephone appointments. 4. The doctor assigned to me is appropriately named Dr.Ho. When I am lead to the examining, I pass Dr.Ho and more than once I have seen him playing a computer game. The other exam room is empty. Still I wait 20 minutes for him to walk 20 feet to my exam room. 5. The first time I met Dr.Ho, was following a trip to the emergency room. The results of my pain and subsequent scan had not yet been shared with me. I was discharged to my family doctor. I watched as he read through the report and pronounced "Oh my God it's huge," he held up his hands like he was holding a small watermelon and sort of grinned. I had no idea what he was talking about. "What's huge?" I said. "What is IT?" I asked. "Oh," he said distractly, as he continued to look at his screen. "I guess it's an ovarian tumor?" At that moment I wanted to get up and leave but I needed medication. I looked at him and said, "I know your pretty new, but you have to work on your bedside manner." He gave me a pain script and said to call if Cancer Canada didn't get in touch. I walked out in a daze, I didn't know what to think. Was I going to die? He gave me a script for over a hundred pain meds (wouldn't get away with that these days) and I waited. The good news it was benign, the bad news was that I spent 2 weeks in utter terror until I had surgery. I will outline the various problems I have had during my many telephone appointments: -Zero compassion and frequent scolding for trying to slip in one more thing. -Googling as you speak and not having a modicum of knowlege about basic things that even I, a civilian know about. -Failing to prepare for appointments, by reading notes ahead. -Being so stupid that he told me I had Somatoform Syndrome (his opinion) which is a psychiatric condition in which you invent symptoms, ya know, like heart attacks and multiple fractures because he refused to give me medicine for osteoporosis, despite my having been on it when I lived in the states. I've broken 12 bones in 2 years as a result. -Calling 3 metatarsal fractures midfoot, that kept me in a cast for 2 months, my broken toes. -Failure to refer, which I have only found out when I end up showing up for an appointment with a specialist. -Failure to call in prescriptions. Especially concerning when you have vivid pain such as a broken bone. Or telling you he can't give you any more pain pills and that I should try biofeedback. If someone has had success with biofeedback to treat the pain associated with a broken hip, I'd be shocked. I'm 66, if I was going to be a junkie I would have started earlier and I shouldn't have to beg when I hurt. -Failure to call on a scheduled appointment or, calling hours after the appointment. -Calling the next day, when you had an appointment the day before and then telling you it's your fault. Or better calling the next day when you spoke to him the day before and he didn't remember. -Reading his opinion directly from the Google page I already have up on my computer. I have lived in many countries, including this one before it was sold to the highest bidder. Build the infrastructure, ya know, like healthcare, before you invite the world to come. I can't tell you how many times I've been behind someone in emergency who is a sponsored grandmother, who has just arrived from India, speaks zero English and has never seen a doctor. As a former resident of the US, who always had very good insurance, which I paid dearly for, I defended Canadian Healthcare until I'm blue in the face. On my 65 birthday I received my Medicare card from the US, I guess I'll use it.

I went back in time and was taken in at 10:40. My hearing in my left ear was very poor and likely was a wax issue. Dr. Nicholas Steinberg saw me and confirmed minor wax in my right ear and wax blockage in my left ear. He offered two options and I chose flushing with water. Dr. Steinberg flushed out my left ear and removed all of the wax. My hearing was fully restored. He also gave me instructions to put oil in my right ear as he did not recommend flushing it because the amount of wax was small. I was very pleased with the friendly approach by the receptionist, getting a fairly quick appointment, the lady who showed me to the room and Dr. Steinberg. I will most certainly continue to use this clinic for drop in issues such as today's. Barry M.

I took my parents to see the doctor a few weeks ago, and she was so racist towards them just because they couldn't speak English very well. She literally told my parents to go "learn English" before coming back. If a clinic is willing to hire someone like this to front their business, I think that speaks volume to their standards. Doctors themselves are extremely hit and miss. I've had some of my worse experiences ever here. Was once told I can only get diagnosed for 1 symptom. 1 Symptom. Like what. Last year I had a cold (don't worry, it was pre-Covid), so I had a really bad cough. Was trying to get prescription cough medication and an inhaler for my asthma. This old lady literally told me I had to come back another for my "asthma problem" because it's a separate issue. Seriously, what the heck. Well, I'm never coming back.
