Upon return to our regular physician, we learned that not only was the diagnosis correct, but also correct was the dual antibiotic regimen. Recovery was complete and without difficulty. The second time, there was a medical issue that caused distress but that did not require treatment with an antibiotic. Once again, we consulted our regular physician the next day, and this diagnosis/course of treatment was confirmed as correct. Everything worked out well. All personnel at the urgent care center were courteous and pleasant. We will return if the need arises.

I was told that they had no way to check if my insurance would be accepted until I came in for their complimentary initial visit. Wait. What?? I've never heard of this before. Feels like a scam already. Get the patient in, convince me I need all sorts of uncovered services to get well, then I'm stuck with a huge bill I can't pay. There are plenty of highly qualified endocrinologists around who, coincidentally accept my insurance and are happy to confirm that during an initial phone call, so I'll be seeking help in that direction. Usually I wear long pants and sleeves but was mistaken that it was too early in the season for it to be out. In any event I needed some relief and while I don't usually go to any doctor for almost any reason, the itching was acute. Upon checking in at the front desk, I was given some forms that I needed to fill out and also presented my insurance card. The forms only took a few minutes and I was asked to take a seat in the waiting room. There is more than enough chairs for a healthy crowd but I was fortunate enough that there was only one couple inside when I arrived. While I waited, another sole patron came in so my timing couldn't be better. Within five minutes I was called to the back and shown to a nice room and they took my vitals and asked the standard questions. Two minutes later, a nice doctor came in and looked at the rashes on my arms and forehead and agreed that it was most likely poison ivy or oak or sumac. He suggested calamine spray for the itch and a ten day supply of prednisone. They phoned it over to CVS in Syosset and I was out in a jiffy. All in all, a pleasant experience for an unpleasant situation.
