My dietitian, Nikki DeRosa, is the most supportive human possible. I can say that I would not be alive to write this if not for her help, and she has figured out myriad medical conditions that I later had diagnosed before any of my doctors. Everything from diabetes insipidus to autism spectrum disorder, from hEDS to MCAS to POTS, and from gastroparesis to rapid gastric emptying, Nikki has noticed and is knowledgeable about them all. She cares so much, she'll research a client's symptoms to help figure out what's going on. I often joke she needs an embroidered "Nikki was right" sign to point to, as she's right so very often. I also wouldn't be eating solid food without Nikki's patient guidance on gradually weaning me off a feeding tube and back to eating by mouth. It has not been a smooth journey, and I have not been the easiest client, but I wouldn't be where I am today without her compassion, caring, experience, and expertise. Doctors stuck a titanium rod in the leg and screwed it in. I was completely unable to walk for a month. I had a crutch but even basic movement was painful. I tried finding a PT, even going as far as asking my doctors for recommendations and referrals. I ended up at a few places that wanted to simply put me on a basic run-of-the-mill program. The very first visit I did I met Carrie and her team. She spent time exploring the specifics of the pain and problems I had and over the other visits crafted a program for me that helped. I showed up on crutches, pain with every step I took for over a month. Within a week I was off the crutches. The breadth of knowledge of this team in this area was simply astounding. I could show up to a visit, explain what was hurting or causing me discomfort and they would craft a routine for me on the spot that helped immediately.
