I was seeking a new hair stylist and found Mecai online. I liked the comments I heard, as well as the photos uploaded and Mecai's descriptions of what I was viewing. I could not help but think of the words of the old Ray Stevens song, "The Haircut Song", because "you might look like Larry, Moe or Curly if a stranger cuts your hair". I gritted my teeth and took a chance. I am so glad that I did! It is often difficult to find a hair stylist who is able to work well with African-American hair. All too many profess this as one of their specialties, but don't believe it. If you do not see photos of what they have done, you need not visit their shop to know that you would be the guinea pig. I do not care to have someone practicing on my hair. As a busy professional, I do need to keep a good appearance. I am a little particular in what I desire and Mecai attended to my wishes without complaint. She was intelligent and very professional. I liked how she attended to my concerns about some hair loss in one portion of my hair. We discussed it, and I do believe we have a plan that will either arrest the hair loss, or reverse it. I would be happy for either. Mecai explained to me every step of the way, which made me feel all the more confident in her abilities. When I was done, my hair was lovely and felt soft and healthy. There are very few things that are more anxiety producing than having to find a new hair care professional. I was faced with this recently and after combing a couple of other web sites I turned to Yelp which is where I discovered Mecai. Let me tell you, she is a true professional who is really on top of her game. From the moment I sat in her chair she was warm and personable; she asked lots of questions about my hair, its care in the past, and what I wanted to accomplish in the long term. I have relaxed hair and told her I often wish I could take my hair from black to a warm golden brown something I've always been told would be a bad idea; but she said it could be done and explained how we could successfully do it without damaging my hair. Joy! Today I had a relaxer touch-up which turned out beautifully. My hair feels soft and has a lot of body and shine. I had to run a couple of errands afterwards and could tell a few people were checking out my hair as I went here and there. Now that's money well spent. Oh, Mecai is also an educator with Mizani and is very knowledgeable about the latest products and techniques, and she's very open about sharing that information. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am, not to mention relieved, that my search has ended. If you're looking for a new stylist don't hesitate to check her out. Let me just say that as much as I depend on other reviewers comments, I haven't been much into providing my opinion on my own experiences. I had an awesome stylist who I went to for many years until she moved away. I am really picky about who I let do my hair so I started doing my own hair. I have also had a few bad experiences with stylists who are unprofessional or just don't care.This lasted about 5 years until I found Mecai. She not only is professional and a great stylist, but also is concerned about the health of your hair. After years of doing my own hair and causing a lot of damage, she took the time to assess the condition of my hair and hooked me up with an amazing haircut! I moved to LA about 2 years ago and I was kind of freaking out because I was not sure how to go about finding a great hairstylist and actually trusting the reviews I saw. After 3 hairstylists I finally found Mecai! She is amazing! I went initially just to get a wash and style (that usually my test) and my hair came out looking amazing. I decided to go back to her to get my relaxer since from my first time visiting she was so knowledgeable about products and the state of my hair. Again it came out amazing. Now I recently went just yesterday and got a keratin and color and again amazing! I have been a client at MHX Beauty Bar for the past 3 years. It has been the best experience! I have NEVER had a stylist to take care of my hair the way Mecai has. My hair is very strong and healthy. I don't write reviews but thought this was worthy of a praise. My hair is natural/soft kinky/fro. Mecai took her time by brushing my hair with this magical detangler brush before washing and styling. I decided it was time for a cut and blow out. Very pleased with the results!!! I walked out with my hair feeling soft and very manageable, couldn't keep my hands out of it...lol. I plan to return every 1-2 months for maintenance. My hair is finally at a nice length and I want to keep it happy and healthy. Eventually getting color. I'm so glad I found Mecai. My experience was great and I NEVER go to a hair stylist that wasn't referred to me by someone I know personally. My regular hair dresser is far, and, while I love her, the drive has gotten difficult since I moved to the valley, and she just wasn't available the day I needed her, so I decided to try someone new. I found Mecai purely by a yelp search of black hair stylists in the Sherman Oaks area. I'm so glad I did. Mecai got my hair so soft and shiny, I couldn't believe it. Mecai knows about a lot of different hair extension techniques. She has done hair locs, extension tabbing, and the amino smooth treatment on me. Mecai is well educated on different hair textures and always stays on top of everything by attending different master classes. This is why I trust her opinions and recommendations for my hair. I also like going to Mecai because the shop is a very private place and she gets you in and out. She also does lash extensions. I did the lash extensions and I had no problems with them. Mecai is totally gifted at what she does. My hair always looks good for a long time. I don't know how she transforms my hair, but I always leave miraculously transformed. I've moved a long way away but I'm going to make the drive... It's totally worth it! Mecai is excellent with extensions, but whenever my natural hair gets weak, it is restored to shiny and strong. FINALLY!!!! I've finally found someone in LA who is amazing at natural hair care. Mecai is brilliant, highly intelligent and basically an encyclopedia for hair care. Mecai did an excellent keratin treatment on my teen daughter hair. After 5 days, her hair still looks like she just walked out of the salon.
