I have been going here to study around lunch time for the past few months. I don't really like this library very much (but don't have any other alternatives that I know of). The library is newer, and used to be an old mill or warehouse. It's nice since it has been recently (in the past 1-2 years I think) opened; however, this place has HORRIBLE acoustics for a library. Libraries are supposed to be QUIET, and this building has a very open floor plan which allows noise to travel all over the first & second floors.
Which brings me to another point: I have never heard louder people (or librarians) in a library in my life. No, they're not shouting, but aren't you supposed to try to talk more quietly than your regular speaking voice in a library? That's how I was taught, but apparently the patrons and employees of this library were not taught the same way.
The study rooms are a joke. They are sound proof in that if you are outside, you can't hear inside the study rooms & vice-versa. However, if you are in a study room, you can hear what's going on in the other study rooms (others talking on their cell phones - word for word, or talking in general), and you can also hear all of the librarians talking (whose office area is directly below). Also, apparently if people are in the study rooms and not studying (i.e. playing on their cell phones), the librarians can't remove them so that people who actually need to study can use the rooms. read more
