Once again I had the pleasure of a meal with my local French friends at the Tournefeuille-based (suburban Toulouse) Mealting Potes. I remember having one of the best hamburgers there last year, and this year's meal did not disappoint! The young chefs and owners here pride themselves on using local ingredients to create simple yet delicious food.
On this evening, I opted for the fish dish, which was comprised of two filets of Hake, accompanied by a lightly dressed spring salad and savory compote of olive oil, tomatoes, shallots, and fried onions. The fish was seasoned sparingly with nothing other than a little oil and some salt and the flakey meat melted on my tongue. The salad and compote provided additional depth to the fish. Of course, I also had a side of their house cut fries. (Did I also tell you that they make awesome frites?)
To round out the meal, I asked for two scoops of their house-made rum raisin ice cream (Rhum des Antilles aux Raisins). I wish I could have ordered a couple of gallons for the flight home! They use exceptionally soft golden raisins to soak up all that delectable rum. Miam!
Merci beaucoup, Mealting Pots! I really love the food you make! read more
