Every single tee box looked like it hadn't had any sort of maintenance all summer long to say the least. In fact the whole course looked that way. The fairways are comparable to the rough. At $35 weekend rate (18 with a cart), this is by far the best deal I've found around Effingham. The Bermuda grass fairways were excellent, minus a few wet spots from the rain. The greens were smooth and rolled true. The course layout can definitely be a tough one, but with several tee boxes to choose from, it can fit anyone's game. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because of the clubhouse. It's not much, but its acceptable. They have a driving range and full kitchen for lunch. We will definitely be playing Angus when we come in town from now on.

It's not overly long and combines the usual Central Illinois geologic features (creeks, valleys, rolling hills, woods) in challenging ways. The problem is that this is a tight course. You play along and through a lot of tight openings. If you're a scratch golfer you'll have relatively easy time with it, but if not, bring a lot of balls and a lot of patience. If you want to lounge in a luxurious club house with a thick steak afterward, you'll need to go elsewhere.
