Update: After I posted this on Google reviews, I got a call from Zack from LDS, who in a very friendly voice explained that KC city ordinances allow them to start at 7am. He barely let me get a word in edgewise as he kept talking, to the point that I finally just hung up on him, but at no time did he offer to start mowing later in the day in the future. Also, since he quoted city noise ordinances, which do indeed have "quiet hours" ending at 7am daily, I'd first point out that I'm not citing ordinances here - I'm referring to being a good neighbor. I never mow before 9am and neither do our neighbors. But second, even after quiet hours, the city only allows a volume of 60 decibels during the day (it's 55 decibels during quiet hours) and LDK is WAY in excess of that. Several houses in the area hire firms like LDK to handle their lawn, but none make anywhere near the racket these guys make. I pulled down a NIOSH sound level meter app on my iPhone and I guess my next step is just to record them next time they come through and turn it over to the city to let them deal with these guys. And if you're reading all this as you consider a lawn company, know that if you hire LDK, you're probably going to get some stink eye from your neighbors...
