Dr O'Neil and his staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. The shining Star was my hygienist Ivy. She was more knowledgeable and professional than any I have ever encountered. She gave me realistic time frames for my dental issues. But made it clear it was a journey we were going to take together! Let's face it, who likes to go to the dentist. Certainly not me. The process involved three visits and could not have been more stress-free and comfortable. Although not done for cosmetic reasons, it mattered greatly to me that my appearance would not be changed and that the end result would preserve my original, natural smile. I could not be more pleased by the end result. Since I've been coming here, I've actually had three different dental insurance plans. I would say there have been at least 4-5 visits where I have effectively "overpaid" for services whereby I would either have to request a credit card refund, or I find out months later that I have a "credit" on file. This isn't right, period! I don't want to "overpay" for services and end up with a credit for future dental work. That is what an FSA/HSA health plan is for. The billing department alone is the reason for subtracting two stars, and could likely end up being the reason that I start to consider finding another Denstist, especially since my original hygenist (Alesia) has left so that she can pursue dentistry school. My advice would be to make sure that you are your own advocate, especially when it comes to paying for services. Check with your insurance company directly, and get an exact estimate. Don't get tricked into paying a high "estimate" and then end up having a credit on file.

I had received my previous cleaning six months earlier at another dentist. During the visit, the dentist noticed an older filling and asked how long I'd had it. Although the filling had been there for years and had never caused any problems, she recommended replacing it. She then told me that once they removed the filling, I might need a root canal. This made no sense to me. The tooth was asymptomatic, the filling was functional, and I had no indication of infection or other problems. That was several years ago. The original filling is still there, still causes no pain or sensitivity, and I have never needed a root canal. Recommending removal of a perfectly functional filling and warning that doing so might lead to a root canal left me feeling that the recommendation was financially motivated rather than medically necessary. The entire experience felt like being in the Twilight Zone.

Then I got "fired" by the office manager for coming in to my appointment. At the time I was busy taking care of my parents so missed a text but did sign the paperwork virtually prior to coming and showed up on time for my appointment with no history of no-shows. I was told I didn't respond to the text message so they gave my appointment to someone else. They rescheduled me for Friday but had to cancel on me as the tech called out sick. They would text me about appointment times but by the time I text back after checking my schedule a couple hours later the appointment was already booked. I called to see if I could make a time work with my new work schedule and expressed (not yelled or was rude) my frustration over being in the office for my appointment and not being seen and having difficulty rescheduling. The office manager said "I'm not going over this with you again I'll email you your files and you can go some where else" I never received my records, an apology, an easy reschedule. I've never not paid or no-showed an appointment. And I truly love my dentist after having some anxiety finding one after a bad experience with oral surgery a few years ago. Now this is one of the best places that accepts my insurance and I'm unsure where to go for care & cosmetics.
