Terrible they took FIVE whole minutes to get me a napkin that was TWO meter's away and the place wasn't even that packed maybe 6 or 7 people! The food? Not good I ordereda full Irish breakfast and I wanted 2 fried eggs(I need my protein) and when they came out the were halve cooked and watery it made me want to puke! The ambiance? Stopped here while visiting Ireland from the US. Food was good and service was excellent, but the chance to interact with Irish hosts in a small town in Ireland was great! The proprietor, Michael McNamara was very friendly and invited us to watch a hurling match with him, explaining Gaelic Athletic Association sports to us. Lots of fun, nice hospitality, great chance to talk sports in a different culture, made this stop for lunch in small town Ireland memorable! Thank you! read more

This was not really a good experience. The waitress didn't know the specials, didn't know if they served wine, didn't know if they had ketchup, and didn't bother to check on any of it. We were also the only people at the restaurant so it's not like they were busy. Possibly the worst service I've ever received. The food was fine, a solid 5/10 - not great but not terrible. Served by Mr. McNamara himself! Great location right off the main Street. Inside is quiet and dark, with a few locals sprinkled along the bar. Rather cozy overall, just as a tourist would imagine an Irish pub! I started with a Guinness of course, it was served at what seemed to be the perfect chilled temperature and the right amount of head across the top. For my meal, I went with the bangers and mash and I must say it was the right choice! First off, it seemed no more than 10 minutes after I ordered that Mr. McNamara was placing a piping hot place of sausage and mash taters on my table. The gravy covering the base of the plate was tasty and complimented the delicious flavor of the sausage as well as the seasoned mash. What made this spot worthy of the 5th star on top of the amazing food and drink was the grade A service and humble conversation by the man who runs the place, Mr. McNamara. If you are in County Clare, you absolutely MUST go to McNamara's Irish Pub. The pub has a wonderful atmosphere with lots of local folks who make the experience fun. The food is wonderful and the beer is cooled to just the right temperature. We found McNamara's by referral from the resort where we stayed in Bodyke. It was one of the best parts of our trip. We returned many times to enjoy the food and the McNamara family. We were warmly welcomed and the food was great. I ordered a tuna melt and after enduring many mediocre tuna melts in the states, had no great expectations. I was pleasantly surprised with the very best tuna melt I had ever had. The fish and chips were fantastic. The chips they serve are fresh and crisp. The McNamara family serves the food and the drinks and also serve up a whole lot of hospitality. If you are in Scariff or even in County Clare...stop by and say hello to Mike, Evan, John & Mary. You will not regret it! read more

I visited Scariff for the festival on Saturday last 30/7/2016,Mcnamara,s is a great location, on the main street, but I was utterly disappointed with this pub, not very clean, no handle on the outer door of the ladies toilet, strong unpleasant odour in the toilet plus no toilet seat either. I ordered a started of black pudding salad, the gentleman that served us was dressed in tracksuit bottoms, heavy jumper, and runners and peaked cap, and as he took our order he continued to rub the tea towel in his hand across his face...The starter cost 6.95euro, one slice of black pudding cut up into a few pieces sitting on a piece iceberg lettuce, loads of onion, a piece of tomatoe...the presentation was awful, very disappointed . There is no hotel in Scariff and McNamara's could make this place a gem with very little basic effort...clean the place thoroughly, a lick of paint, and a little effort of dress sense from the staff...basic stuff, plus attention to detail with the menue..make this pub a place one would want to come back to...such a shame...Breda...S read more
