First she sent me to have a Cat Scan and then to a Gastroenterologist -- Dr Nassif. I brought him copies of the Colonoscopy that I had the previous year). Initially, I went in for a Consultation. I filled out some paperwork and he asked me lots of questions. He told me what he suspected the problem would be. He did a copious amount of Lab work before the Upper GI procedure and asked a ton of questions. He also told me that I should go on an Atkins Diet to remove some weight that I had gained during and after Menopause. When I went in for the procedure I was given instructions to Fast. I was taken to the an area where 5 Hospital Beds with Curtains. There was a high turnover for each bed. You are instructed to have someone with you to drive you home (because of the after effects of the Anesthesia. I received some Photos -- the only thing about the photos was that they had no description of what I was seeing. It turned out to be Gastritis and not something worse. At my Follow-Up Appointment Dr Nassif seemed pleased with my following a 'Gastritis & GERD Diet' that I had followed and he was also pleased about my losing 20lbs. I found him to be charming, thorough and articulate. He may be a little blunt -- but he wants you to understand what he wants. I was ok with it, but could see where some might be offended. He is the only doctor, after having tried many, who found proper treatment for my condition, making me feel healthy again. His staff are amazing. There is burnout because the floor nurses do the same thing every day and they are caught off guard when a critical status appears. A particular nurse was mentally abusive, dismissive and falsified records to cover up. Communication will not move up to the decision makers. When matters are brought up to management they will be dismissive but tell you they care. The culture is not safe because they do not make the changes needed to ensure safety on the floor. I do not trust the hospital floor situation because of a lack of ethics and professionalism.

However most of my experiences have not been good. Most unpleasant was being told to "call back in a few days" for biopsy results ( I then asked about the specific day) and when I did so the answering nurse stated she had but couldn't understand results and that she'd leave a message for the doctor. I then called the office my Via Christi primary care physician for results and was told the most I could do was leave another message. At days end not having heard from anyone I called again to follow up on getting my biopsy results. I was told I could leave another message. It's over 24 hours later and still no call back with results. Patient portal was not helpful either as I checked prior to calling and after. This is at least my 4th time of having problems getting medical information and assistance in the 3 months I first began seeing doctors within this network. In this case It seems quite insensitive to be kept on hold for biopsy results. It's true the pandemic has put strains on many and some expectations need to take this into consideration. Yet a lack of care in small areas begins to set ( or signify) a pattern where a lack of care in larger areas could exist. Don't see myself continuing with the Via Christi network or recommending them.

I have always had stellar service and this misunderstanding was an anomaly. Going forward, I will give the scheduler the benefit of the doubt and maintain an open line of communication to circumvent this recurring. Dr. Sandid's bedside manner and patient care is among the best I have ever experienced to include the Bethesda Naval Medical Center (where the President, Senators and Congressmen go) and the University of Kansas Medical Center that were previously my primary care medical facilities.
