Marie at McKay urology was supposed to put in an order for a lab before my surgery. It's now Friday, I'm at labs and they're telling me the order was never put in. They've called the clinic. The surgeon needs the results Monday morning. I'm waiting! read more

Very disappointed. Dr. Makhuli seemed great, but their office had to reschedule 3 times due to the MD being unavailable for my scheduled procedure. I'm no different than the next person; having to plan, schedule & reschedule time off for a urology office that can't keep an appointment is difficult to do. The office provided NO 'customer service' (aka flexibility) when they asked me to reschedule a 3rd time. Very disappointed with this office's lack of ability to keep an appointment. Was referred to McKay by the VA in March of this year; was first seen by them in April. I was scheduled for a kidney/bladder procedure in late April. I briefly talked to the MD who was to perform the procedure at mid-month and was assured that it was a simple procedure; it took almost two weeks to perform a abdominal scan, and a Covid test (I had been fully vaccinated for two months.) It was performed on the last Friday of the month, and was assured that it was a very routine operation and that I'd be back to normal within a week; I left with a bag catheter and told to come back in five days. The catheter was removed at eight that morning (Wednesday); I returned at three when another was inserted. Nine days later, this second catheter was removed, and everything seemed to be better, with slight flow. HOWEVER, I was still unable to properly void, and I had to go to the ER at two the next morning -- yep, another catheter! This one stayed in for a week! On Tuesday of the second week, they let me know that I had e. coli in my bladder; the antibiotic that I had been prescribed was not effective, so I was given another and told to stop taking the first. Ended up wearing the bag for three weeks! It is now thirteen weeks since the procedure. I still have the infection, I am still experiencing "discomfort." I had one meeting with the PA handling my post-op care; other than that, there was almost NO follow-up. (I called the RN assigned to my case several time over a number of days; she mostly didn't return my calls.) Since the procedure was on Friday, and VA prescriptions usually take ten days to be delivered, I had several scripts that I paid for at the local pharmacy: over $300 out-of-pocket! (Which I can't afford on my social security My local VA urologist is unable to see me for over two months; I'm going today to Salisbury to see another MD. My VA primary prescribed a rush order for another TWO rounds of the antibiotic over a week ago, which I still haven't received. I expect this problem to continue. I wouldn't recommend McKee Urology to a canine pet, my worst enemy or a former president! read more

We can't say enough about this practice. My husband had surgery April 15th and Dr Makhuli performed the surgery! You cannot ask for a better, caring, knowledgeable surgeon. Every question and procedure is explained to the T. His team of Tim Fain and Dr. Caroline Lu are phenomenal! As well as his office staff. This is a 10 star practice! read more

If I could give zero Stars I would. I called this office as a new patient today only to be told they're not accepting new patients and the receptionist referred me to a pelvic dr...fyi i don't need them i need a urologist...isnt that where i called!!?? She then put me into a spider web of phone calls which got me only annoyed .... and nothing accomplished the place that she referred me to actually referred me back to McKay.... and the girls that answer the phone could care less. Aren't healthcare providers supposed to care? Aren't they supposed to help you? DO NOT go to this office they are not helpful they do not help you ! They make things harder where Healthcare Providers should make things easier, Zero stars !! Thumbs down!! What the heck is going on with health care in this country!!?? Dr Schang has helped me get my life back, and never stops trying to give her patients the best care! It's a sensitive area of the body and hard to figure out what can cause issues. When you must go to the doctor, it's nice to hear a friendly voice on the other end of the line when you call to schedule an appointment or simply ask a question. A smile shines through that phone line. That is not my experience at this practice..... I don't know why the receptionist is rude every time I call. She must hate her job. It is very unfortunate. Definitely need someone in her position, dealing with the public, that actually likes people! The nursing staff does not return calls. I'm sure they are overwhelmed. The scheduling is a disaster! Have been asked to reschedule several times. Once, when calling to confirm time of scheduled appointment, told appointment had been moved. Unbeknownst to me! Good thing I called!!! Several times, the scheduling of scans and such have been left to me. Only to be told that I cannot make said appointments. They have to be confirmed by doctor's orders and come directly from this practice. I cannot say that I would ever recommend this practice. Have given them a few chances to show me a glimmer of a caring, compassionate, friendly atmosphere. Just not going to happen here. Wish things could have worked out. read more

I can't speak for the providers as I never got a chance to meet them. It took me two days to reschedule my appointment, being put on hold for 30+ minutes each time. Due to the rudeness of the receptionist I will seek another urologist office. read more

I agree with other Reviews, it is not right the lowest rating McKay Urology can receive is 1 star. Even with that head start of 1 star, they still only have a review rating average of 2 out of 5! This is your body, you can do better than here! Unbelievably careless and unorganized and when mistakes are made the staff is very experienced sweeping them under the rug. I could tell the Nurse and then escalating to the Office Mgr., they know how to cover up mistakes. During my visit on 6/17/20, Dr. Makhuli confirmed I would be a good candidate for an in-office treatment/procedure I was interested in. The earliest they could fit me in was 8/26/20. When still not seeing my appointment in the My Atrium portal calendar on 7/17/20 I emailed (after several phone msgs, she did not return) the nurse. Appt now appeared in My Atrium calendar. We had several emails back and forth getting the prescription meds filled for my pre-treatment and post- treatment. More confusing than it really needed to be, but realized maybe that's part of the reason for a 10 week lead time. THIS is where it gets Zero Star worthy: In an email to me on 8/19/20, the nurse ASKs me "Please let me know if you are available for the procedure on 8/28/20 instead of 8/26/20." No background/explanation just that. I replied I would prefer to stay with 8/26. But now wondering what is the reason all this is being brought up. I really wanted to know why and asked her to call me. I received no phone calls and checked My Atrium portal emails and calendar daily. No emails from the nurse, but my appointment for 8/26 was still in place (My Atrium calendar). And the 8/26 appointment was still their 8/25 pm, the night before my appt. 8/26/20, the morning of my treatment. Per the instructions from the nurse, I had an enema and 2 of my pre-treatment pills with a light breakfast. My wife took a day of vacation to drive me to procedure and back. Getting ready to head to Office for 8:30 am start. The nurse calls and tells me the treatment was cancelled!!!! I immediately thought of the odd email 7 days ago, where she asked me if I was available for 8/28? I understand if Doctors have something come up, BUT if 7 days ago she was supposed to reschedule me, she should NOT have ASKED me if I was available. And the nurse having read my email reply 7 days ago, and realizing she handled that incorrectly, wouldn't she contact me immediately. Waiting until 30 minutes before I would drive to her Office and knowing the pre-treatment meds she ordered for me, I would have taken. It almost seemed like intentional ineptness. I was shocked and scared. I assumed this meant I was rescheduled for 8/28. She THEN tells me the 8/28 "make up" slots for the 8/26 cancels have all been filled!! I asked for her managers name and hung up. The nurse gave me the Office Mgrs name. I then spent 7 days with her giving me the runaround of her not being able to talk with Dr Makhuli to reschedule me. I then asked if I could talk with Dr Makhuli, and the next day 9/3 she called and emailed me that my treatment was scheduled for 9/11! I was relieved. THEN the very next morning 9/4, the Office Mgr emails me again saying the 9/11 procedure was now canceled by Dr Makhuli "based on interaction between you and the staff last week". All the Office Mgr said was the nurse hearing the procedure was rescheduled, went and had a talk with Dr Mahkuli. The only discussion the nurse and I had was that call cancelling the procedure 30 minutes before getting ready to leave for the McKay Office after having the enema and 2 pills per the nurses instructions. I know I was disappointed that morning, and asked my wife who heard me on the entire call, if I said anything that was inappropriate or abusive sounding. Her feedback to me was my comment to Iris that after all of her mistakes in the past week, when the treatment is rescheduled, I really have concerns with her prepping me for the procedure without Dr Makhuli in the room. Maybe that hurt her feelings, but I was upset and after her major screw up, taking medicine I had no reason to take, then not being part of the 8/28 "make up" day, that was how I felt. In the 9/4 email cancelling the 9/11 treatment, Benita the Office Mgr stated "I will send out a letter with more information". On 9/17 I emailed Office Mgr requesting status of the letter. Her reply was I should have received it certified mail by now. A certified letter never came as of 9/22. The reviews I have read and what I have heard about Dr Makhuli are very good. I would have preferred to have him do the treatment I need. To see how Dr. Makhuli's staff treated me and his staff's ability to keep the truth from him. They appear to have experience putting their mistakes behind them as if nothing wrong ever happened. read more

Great practice, overall. I've seen Dr. Patel several times and he recently performed a procedure to remove my kidney stones, which went well. He desires to get to the bottom of a patient's problem/s instead of just treating the symptoms. The quality of care one may receive here is very high and knowing the doctors are competent, research-oriented, and qualified is a high priority to me as a patient. The only negatives are the wait time for appointments, the difficulty getting detailed information from nursing staff (I end up asking questions and repeating my medical history on occasion) and the frustration of their EMR or EHR system, which doesn't adequately keep track of a patient's medical history. I can't blame the latter on the doctor or office staff since EMRs are mandatory and flawed data collection systems, but I do hope their electronic record system improves over time as I would prefer not to repeat my medical history to the same staff multiple times. More recently, I had to request an alternate medicine for treatment due to the staff not recognizing another medical condition of mine, despite my having told them about it on two previous occasions. Nonetheless, this is a great practice and I highly recommend McKay Urology. read more

The female PA I was supposed to see was out sick, so I was seen by a male PA. After an unproductive appointment, and an awkward exam, the male PA told me he doesn't typically see women and he has no clue. The consult fee was over $400, needless to say, I feel ripped off. read more
