As with most hotels in Ireland, this one was not air conditioned and the only option to moderate the room temperature was to open the windows. Unfortunately, there was a lot of street noise and we had to keep windows closed due to the noise. For Americans touring Ireland, it's important to mention that most hotels don't have air conditioning and that you need to open the windows in order to moderate the temperature. We stayed at this hotel as part of a 15-day tour of Ireland and Scotland with CIE Tours. This hotel was selected by CIE and was one of 9 hotels we stayed in during our 2-week tour. We had 31 people in our group and typically occupied 16 rooms at each hotel we visited. Each hotel provided a full buffet breakfast every morning and typically we had dinner at least once at each hotel. We were at this hotel for 1 night. We had 1 dinner and 1 breakfast in this hotel - both were very good. The breakfast buffet was a traditional Irish breakfast (eggs, ham, sausage, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms and a nice assortment of pastries and cereal). The staff - both in the restaurant and at the front desk were very personable and very willing to help with any questions.

It was a disaster of mega proportions when it took requesting a coke and dinner menu from 6 people in the restaurant over the period of a half hour on the first night, only to be told that your table number is replicated inside and they served your drink to the other unsuspecting soul 6 times Without figuring out they were getting it wrong. And I'll mention the restaurant was practically empty due to Covid! House keeping was a fine example of how to cut corners almost everyday as they cleaned but didn't refill any amenities including towels, wash cloths and coffee. Top that with the fact the bed wasn't dressed completely as proper hygiene standard dictate; it was missing the top sheet. I was left to call reception each day requesting what housekeeping didn't provide and still nobody could put two and two together! when checking out and being asked how was my stay, I kindly informed them of the mishaps of the week and the response I received was ' if I had only booked a Superior room'... like that would have somehow magically improved the attention to detail of the lackluster staff. Upom speaking to the general manager after I requested he contact me regarding the issue, the apologies were profuse but the effort to rectify my lack of trust in the hotel was mediocre as I was offered a room upgrade if I chose to book again! This offers no incentive for me to even consider the hotel for future trips. I would have reacted more favorably to a room upgrade wit complimentary meal to restore my faith in their ability to service as a 4* rated hotel should. needless to say they go on the end of my list of places to revisit. A shame since I've had such good experiences in the past with Radisson all over the world.

Nobody else at the bar, I was not disturbing anyone till the obviously stressed out barman told me I cannot watch a movie at the bar "this is not a cinema' then said in his opinion I had enough drink, this was 9:30pm, there was a wedding going on! He had just served me an espresso martini and another glass of wine! Im a solo woman doing my thing, engaging in socialising in a public place and he made me feel so unwelcome even though I was booked in for the night. Turns out he is the proprietor. To intimidate a woman on her own who is not bothering anyone nor has any intention to, I find this highly offensive to any solo travellers out there. If you're in the Silver Tassie make sure u don't make conversation with the locals or u will be considered.......... I'm actually not sure what I was judged as being.... Most of the staff are: great, very approachable and down to earth, bar one or two who remind me of undertaker's. You want a good steak, you'll get a good steak, but whenever I've ordered anything else its been really poor quality; I was there in February and i thought id try their pizza, because i usually get a steak there, the pizza comes out about 10 minute's later and I'ts honestly the worst pizza i have ever eaten im my life, it even looked bad with zero flavor and really low quality dough, so dry and barely any sauce; I've had much better frozen pizza's, in fact it was probably frozen. They have about 2 or 3 tv's in the place and they're always turned up really loud when all you want to do is just relax and unwind and enjoy a conversation with your family. A bit more flare, passion and enthusiasm wouldn't go a miss in their kitchen.

This hotel is located on a semi busy road - there's not much nearby in terms of tourist walking/exploring. Gas stations are across the street and next door but it's not walking friendly. I get the sense this is a stop, rest, and leave the next morning kind of area. So in that sense, it was disappointing that there wasn't much to do nearby. Clanree bills itself as an entertainment center and that is shown by the numerous performance posters that are displayed in the main lobby. They evidently host many, many different acts so the Clanree clearly knows how to host large groups and festivities. What really frustrated me about this stay is the unfortunate location of my room and the complete lack of sound insulation. I had someone in the room above me and next to me on both sides. I could hear EVERYTHING. Crying baby, snoring, people talking in the middle of the night. Once I woke up to all the sounds, it was impossible for me to sleep. I know not all the rooms were like that because I asked my travel mates the next morning about their sleep experience. I was just extremely unlucky to have been placed in some sort of echo chamber where all the noises were amplified. The only reason I didn't complain is because I was leaving the next morning. Had it been a multi-night stay, no way would I have tolerated the room. The Clanree may be a decent hotel for others, I'll never know and I'll never stay again. It was a miserable and restless overnight for me.

We managed to get a parking space. Check in was quick, with friendly check-in staff and we were in our cosy double room within a few minutes. The room was lovely and warm and the bathroom floor was warm underfoot. Our view once again was looking out front. There was a good sized telly, a kettle, tea, powdered coffee and biscuits but the teacups are just too darn small. There was traffic noise in the early mornings but the double glazing and curtains helped keep this noise down. This time around we tried the steam bath and jacuzzi. Both were darn good and we were completely relaxed. There were a few disappointments though - on Monday night we went to their bar; Mc Gettigans. It was their steak night. We were lucky to get a seat for two. It was very busy. The waitress took our order - the steak special of two 12 ounce sirloins, home made wonderful chips, pepper sauce, a half tomato and a field mushroom at €27.50 for two. It was a full 45 minutes before our food arrived. We didn't mind that much as we enjoy our own company but it's not good enough and we were already pretty hungry when we first arrived. Not one staff member stopped by to say our food was coming, or to say sorry it's taking a while we are very busy. These details matter. Once our food arrived there wasn't a word about the long time it took instead we were just asked 'who's the well done.' We were asked if we required anything else as the food touched down and thereafter no one asked how the food was. These details matter. I ran out of Colmans English mustard - best in the world - and it was difficult to get a waiters attention to have the mustard replaced. On night two we went to Mc Gettigans again. This time for a mushroom risotto and a club chicken sandwich. The food came much quicker on night two and once again things didn't work out as they should. I asked for black pepper with my risotto and I was given a pepper mill. It didn't have any pepper in it. Again it took time to get a waiter and when one appeared he disappeared with the pepper mill for several minutes. When he did return he handed me the same pepper mill which now had pepper but was broken. I just gave up opting instead for white pepper. A while later I needed another drink. Once again no-one had stopped by to check if we needed anything as this question seems only to be posed on food delivery. It's fundamental to me that restaurant staff check diners just occasionally to see if drink refills are required. I was just about to use my phone to ring reception to see if they could send a waiter when one delivered food to a nearby table, so we grabbed him. These details do matter. On balance it's still five stars but then I'm in a good mood.

The room was ok with the only first world problems being a wash hand basin that took 10 minutes for the water to go and nowhere for soap and shampoo to sit when showering. Fact is it's an oldish hotel now and needs a bit of a tidy here and there when things normalise. I suspect the Wu flu is the reason why there's no in room tea and coffee and it's definitely the reason why the pool and gym are open but steam baths and jacuzzis are out. I enjoy the latter but I've never knowingly gone through a gym door. So it's not as much a pleasure going to hotels any more. Its a base to sleep have breakfast and leave for the day. We had dinner on one night - a steak deal for 15 euro which was darn fine for the money but at 6 euro for a pint of Guinness and 6.50 euro for a glass of rosé that's an ouch. Had we taken two drinks each we'd have paid almost the value of a main meal on drinks. I'm not cross at the hotel for the alcohol prices as I realise that it's the bunch of gougers in Dáil Éireann who are the real tax grabbing culprits. As an aside this bunch of amateur spivs have just awarded themselves a 2% pay hike when most folks are struggling to stay in work in a pandemic and these politicos have ruled that the minimum wage won't rise this year above 1% - tone deaf politicians who always fill their shameless boots at everyone else's expense. The breakfast was darn good food too - all the usual fried food and a cold buffet and all planned around social distancing and hygiene rules. There's no fish offered at breakfast so for me that's a personal disappointment but again I can't realistically complain against the price paid. Of special mention, as ever in Ireland, is the genuine friendly and warm staff here. A great bunch of people who go the extra mile and sure did for us each day importantly with a smile. Now ya can't buy that.

When we were there, a huge drunk and aggressive stag party member was punching panels in the lift at 4.30 in the afternoon, before being told to go back to his room or leave the hotel by an incredibly brave and professional barman. On returning to the hotel at 2am to go to bed, I had to wait 3 minutes to get in as the doorman was blocking a drunken couple from trying to get in (one was a non guest). When my turn came I was aggressively questioned about my room number which I knew the location of, but not the number, I was told I wasn't coming in. I produced my room key card and said that I hadn't been greeted in such a style in a hotel before. I was told that I could see the situation that the doorman had to manage, and did I want strangers wandering the corridor? He had a point, but the hotel could have provided some extra staff cover to support the man in a difficult job. These issues were no real difficulty for me, and were probably inevitable given how central the hotel is, and the fact that Letterkenny is a popular destination for stags and hens. I preferred to be based here than to travel outside, but if I had been travelling with my family I would have checked out at 4:31pm. The room was quiet enough, shower pressure was good, the room large and the hotel was in medium repair with regard to decor. We didn't eat there, or go to the bar.
