I don't think Ms. Toomer intentionally gave me a shady contract, but I know MS. TOOMER DID NOT DO HER RESEARCH!!. As a result, Bayou Title, Neil Levith, Purchaser Ernest English, and Mr. English's realtor, Paul Gilmore all received their percentage and I'm left with trying to find an attorney :(. My agent repeatedly contacted Rhoda Wood, who was the seller's agent, to see about getting our deposit back. No response. Finally, my agent tells me that Rhoda Wood responded, and that we should go by her house and pick up our check from the mailbox (we were going out of town and didn't want it put in the mail). Finding the house was not a problem, and the porch light was on. It was about 9:30 at night, and my agent said she'd left it in the mailbox, so I felt no need to knock, assuming that Rhoda Wood would have advised us to do so via our agent if she wanted to be disturbed. My husband stayed in the truck, and I retrieved the envelope with our names on it from the mailbox by the door. As I was walking back to the truck, the front door flies open, and a woman who appeared to only be wearing an over-sized t-shirt and no pants says, "What are you doing in my mailbox?!?" I answered, "I came to pick up our check." "Who are you?" I told her our names, and said, "You know, the check, in the mailbox, with our names on it." "OK." She turns around and no-so-gently shuts the door. No apology, no acknowledgment of knowing who we are (at least by name). It's one thing to have a random person in your mailbox at 9:30 at night, but not so much if you are expecting someone to come by that evening and pick up something from said mailbox. I am not sure if the woman who came to the door was Rhoda Wood. All I know was that whoever came to the door was not good for a professional image.

In an incredibly stressful and uncertain situation, Mary was a rock I knew I could lean on. Mary was always responsive, honest, and knowledgeable. I don't know how she does it, but she made us feel like we were her only clients. It didn't matter if it was a Sunday evening or Saturday morning, if something was going on with any of the properties, Mary was calling or emailing to keep me informed. I quickly came to trust Mary's opinion while searching for my new home; so much so I ended up purchasing my current home while on vacation with Mary guiding me on a FaceTime tour. Words can't describe how happy I was when I came back from vacation and drove through my new neighborhood for the first time. As a final item, we were able to find a buyer for our old property within 72 hours of putting it on the market. A week before closing, Mary had to deliver the awful news that financing had fallen through and we had to go back on the market. Despite the news, I trusted that Mary could get the job done. Sure enough, within 48 hours of going back on the market we had new buyers and closed only two weeks after the first scheduled close date. I had legitimate questions about the condition of the listing. The agent was THE ONLY PERSON WHO COULD ANSWER MY QUESTIONS. I asked the Burke agent specific questions over and over about the property, especially the roof. She would not answer my questions and would not allow me to inspect the property, including something so simple as a roof inspection. The agent was evasive and devious..."make me an offer and then you can inspect the property." Burke had ALL THE POWER as the listing agent. The upshot is that I wasted lots of time and $500 in inspection fees that revealed problems that the agent could have EASILY REVEALED to me had she been honest and forthright. I strongly believe that ALL CONSUMERS deserve real estate agents who are HONEST, especially when they are the listing agents like Burke was. That is why I urge unsuspecting consumers to avoid this company. I have tried on two occasions to communicate with this company. Their response is to block me, suppress the truth. I would be willing to tell anyone about the awful and expensive experience I had with this company. "The truth will set you free."
