This guy Ralf Reinberg filed my taxes without my consent! I somehow had too many questions he…read morecouldn't answer and went ahead and filed without my signatures maybe because I was asking for my money back. He had no idea that my taxes were prepared differently than the year before by his own company. He just seemed to not want to deal with it. I could not believe this guy would do this. He somehow used a pin number, and I'm not sure how he could do that. Maybe it was from the previous year? At first, I didn't feel comfortable that they wouldn't let me review the returns until I paid them, but when I finally reviewed them, there were errors and a huge tax bill I had ever seen. They didn't catch the proper deductions. When I discussed this with Ralf Reinberg, he just made that one correction. That's when I asked for an extension to have them reviewed by another accountant. I had no issues the first year, but in the second year, our taxes were completely prepared differently than the last year. When I called back he would disguise his voice and never returned my phone calls. I had to have my taxes amended as the second accountant said that they had placed my deductions on the wrong schedules and prepared them completely incorrectly - not even sure if they did that on purpose or if they really don't know what they're doing. Do NOT use this guy at all! He's an all-around bad person.

Joan seems like a very nice person, and has accounting skills from what I could deduce... My one star is for the process she has in place to do your taxes. It seems she offloads MOST of the work on her clients to gather, organize and document all accounting paperwork. I was tasked to compile a lot of information to make "Joan's" job easier. My previous accountant did all this for me as well as asked the"right" questions, Joan did not. Also,as my I understanding, I was going to drop off all my paperwork, I compiled and aggregated, and pick up at a later date with little to no face time with Joan. My previous accountant did all my tax paperwork with me in an hour meeting and asked all the right questions. I just didn't trust Joan to be as detailed, with all the offloading of compiling to me, and stayed with my previous accountant. BEWARE! Do NOT trust Joan Halter CPA. We were informed by America's Choice Bookkeeping who we…read moreengaged and made our power of attorney that Joan had bought them out. We were now one of Joan's clients but all our information was lost and we'd have to pay for services all over again with a new engagement letter. None of our taxes were filed. The irony is the guarantee on their website is false. America's Choice was founded by Bruce Clark and was sold to Joan Halter CPA. We were originally referred to America's Choice by Direct Inc. Corp (directincorporation.com), a company that does similar services to Legal Zoom. We have been victims of fraud. We paid close to $2,000 for bookkeeping and tax return filings that were never completed. Then Joan Halter said all our information was lost in Canopy accounting software and that we would have to start a new engagement with them. Joan said Bruce had sold her bad client accounts. I asked for Bruce Clark's info who bills himself as a greater marketer for CPA's, more like a scam artist. Joan told us she couldn't contact Bruce, even though she bought his company? The lead accountant for us was Robert Azar who we were told had died. We did some research and found that he only worked for America's Choice for 3 months according to his LinkedIn profile yet he was emailing with us and speaking to us via phone into 2017. We never met him or anyone from ACB because they operated online. When I read Matthew M.'s Yelp review, I saw we had a very similar experience to him. Therefore, I'm posting this review so you don't become a victim of what I believe to be fraud. Another review on here says that Joan was incompetent, making excuses, she did a similar behavior with us too. I don't want you to go through what we experienced which is a mess we're still sorting. I imagine there are other people who've gone through similar experience but haven't spoken up yet. I filed my taxes effortlessly with TurboTax and wish that I had done sooner. Then I could have avoided this painful lesson. Please do your own due diligence!
