I like Lakewood because it gets super pretty in the fall and there is no place to swim. So when the weather is getting cold I don't have to tempt my dog who loves swimming by walking her past a pond. There are multiple trails and I've never had a problem with owners not watching their dogs there. Everyone's friendly and the dogs are so happy there. Whether you are walking the trail or hanging out in the front area the dogs are getting great exercise and you get to enjoy the pretty nature.

The boyfriend and I love taking our dog here as a special treat. She just loves to explore, sniff, poop and mark territory to her heart's content. A daily parking permit costs $5 but I recommend purchasing an annual pass. The permit is good for any of the dog exercise areas in Lake County. And if you're a good owner, you'll probably take your dog out enough times that the permit pays for itself.

Lots of friendly people I've met here so far and it's great for all ages. You can walk the dogs around the park too. This is free so no one mandates the vaccines or pets but it works out fine for me. Perks are large enclosed wooded area, free entry, sunrise to sunset access. Most of the owners are responsible and friendly, but we have run into some owners who should take more responsibility over their wild pets. There are two enclosures: a larger area (where most of the bigger and socialized dogs play) and a smaller area for tiny or dogs that aren't ready for large group play). We haven't had any issues with ticks or fleas yet and my dog is treated. It's important to check your pets frequently after woods play. I do believe that the park cleans it but I'm not sure of the schedule of how frequently it happens. On numerous occasions I have spotted the same poop and throw up in the woods. I can't believe owners just leave their poop without cleaning up after their pets. Y'all have to do better. Overall, it's a great place to bring your pets for exercise and socialization. The overall park was a nice size, mostly lawn and the pond. There was a picnic table under a covered roof and a bench facing the pond. This is a great park for dogs that love to run and swim! There is also a second space for small dogs. The swimming pond is located in the large dog area. Double entry gates are present for both play spaces. I didn't explore the other areas of the park but it appeared to have a children's play area as well as other outdoor spaces.

Most of the dogs are so well behaved and they all just have a blast together. There's a cool bone shaped pond in the middle of the bigger dog area for the pups to romp in and cool down in on hot days. It's bottom is sand, not mud so they don't get too dirty. They have a smaller area for smaller dogs. My Gretel is wee but she doesn't stay in the small area if me and our big baby puppy, Hanso, are in the big area. So she just comes with abs rules over the park. Just ask anyone about Gretel and that's what they say, not me. Lol There are picnic tables and benches to sit on for our old tired bones. Kids are welcome and there's a playground outside the dog section. Right by a yet BIGGER pond with a walking path around it. Many dog folks walk their dogs around that one as well. Additionally, there is not as much to do. There are some trails, although they were cutting plants and working on some. The main attraction was the lagoon near the road. The city was working on gates from the lagoon with painted crosswalks. Given the minimal traffic past downtime, walking on the side of the road is safe enough. It connects to the Lake Geneva lake trail that goes through the backyards of nice houses. Calling it a beach state park is a bit of a stretch. Across the road from the entrance lays about 2 feet of sandy beach. The campsite does have RV options.
