Extremely Disappointed and Concerned…read more I am deeply disappointed with the experience my family had at today's annual wellness visit for my three teenagers. As a family that values faith and integrity, what was meant to be a routine checkup became a deeply upsetting and intrusive encounter for all of us. First, we were surprised to find that the mandatory questionnaire asks our children very personal questions about depression, drug use, alcohol, and anxiety--without prior discussion or consent from me as their parent. And our insurance is charged for this as well. As a Christian family, we guide our children in these matters with care and discernment, and we felt that this was an overstep into our family's values and approach to raising our children. Second, the physician--whom we had never met before--began lecturing my teens about safe sex, machismo in this region, and "knowing their rights," without context or sensitivity to our family's beliefs. This lecture felt inappropriate and unnecessary, especially during a wellness visit. What followed was even more concerning. Without any warning, and with my two daughters still in the room, the doctor began checking my son's testicles. My son is a kind and respectful young man; he did not object, but afterward he told me he felt violated and embarrassed. There was no explanation, no privacy, and no sensitivity shown in that moment. As a parent, I was shocked and heartbroken to see my child put in such an uncomfortable position without consent or preparation. In addition, when we mentioned that my daughter was experiencing pain from shin splints, the doctor stated that "if she doesn't rest, she won't be able to walk in the future without experiencing pain," which caused her to burst into tears. Instead of offering support or encouragement, his delivery instilled fear and shame. To top it all off, the front desk attempted to charge me a copay for the mention of the shin splints--during what was clearly a wellness visit that we attend annually and have never had billing issues with before. I declined and left feeling completely stunned by the entire experience. We have never missed a wellness check, but after this visit, we will never return to this practice. I now have the painful task of helping restore my children's trust after this negative and emotionally harmful experience. This visit lacked compassion, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity. I hope this review encourages this office to reflect on how they treat families and patients--especially teens--during their most formative years.

It is a friendly and welcoming office with brightly themed rooms that put kids at ease. There are also incredible aquariums in the waiting room that feature Nemo, Dory, and other characters from the Finding Nemo movie. I've never had any problems getting a last minute appointment for a sick child and the typical wait with an appointment is 15 minutes. I highly recommend DLC Pediatrics to anyone looking for a Doctor their kids will enjoy going to see!

They even made follow up appointments for them as we continued to wait. A total of 5 others walked in 15-20 min after we did and were taken to examination rooms almost immediately upon arrival. AFTER 50 min of waiting I inquired as to what the determining factors in being admitted versus not being admitted were. They mentioned that since ours was a vaccination they "would check to see is the girls in the back were ready" to administer it. So if you're scheduling vaccinations in this place call ahead to insure that "the girls in the back" are ready to see you in a timely manner. They ushered us into an intermediary waiting room after we voiced our observations. 15 min after that we were in the exam room. Any disparity in average wait times should be communicated to the patient upon making of the appointment. If DLC is aware that certain types of appointments take longer than others that should be shared with clients as a courtesy upon the making of the appointment and or arrival.

The front desk staff representative named Chris was very rude over the phone and left me on hold for 20 minutes during a very difficult moment of my three healthcare authorizations and transfers. He was inhospitable and very dismissive. I am contemplating changing doctors already. The doctors are amazing and a lot of the MAs and nurses are fine. It is their front desk, billers and coders that make it an exceptionally difficult place to work with. They do not know how to organize paperwork well, nor do they have good customer service skills, nor bedside manner, for a lack of better words. I really hope they look at Chris and train him better or replace him. Samantha was really awesome and was able to get what I needed within five minutes in comparison to his (Chris') 20 minute wait hold that only stopped when I decided to hang up and call back and speak to someone else. It spells incompetence.

One especially frustrating experience was when my sister needed blood drawn, and they poked her multiple times without successfully getting it done. For a pediatrician's office, I expected much better communication, organization, and care for their patients. Overall, this has been a frustrating experience, and I would not recommend this office based on what we've experienced.

Because my daughter was having severe body aches, I also asked if they gave penicillin shots. The NP said, "I can give you whatever you want--shots, medicine--but I just don't recommend it." The nurse returned with an injection, but when I asked if it was penicillin, she couldn't tell me. She stepped out to find out and returned saying it contained several ingredients. I explained that my daughter had a severe reaction to penicillin several years ago and that I did not want to risk giving her the injection without knowing exactly what it contained. At that point, the NP became very upset, saying we were wasting an expensive shot and that it had to be thrown away. She repeatedly insisted that my daughter take it, saying it was a "cousin of penicillin." She also became upset with the nurse for not knowing what was in the injection. She then asked my daughter, in an upset tone, "So, you don't want the shot?" Asking a minor? My daughter quietly said no. The NP continued expressing her frustration about the cost of the shot and eventually opened the door and yelled at the nurse. We left feeling extremely uncomfortable with the way the situation was handled, especially because my daughter is a minor and we had clearly explained her history of a severe reaction to penicillin.
