Haven't been here for about 8 months, now I remember why.
The decor has been completely revamped, it's a pity they didn't save the money and spend it on the food.
India has one of the richest vegetarian cuisines in the world, yet all Maza can offer for the main buffet course are some very watery lentil dhal, and some potatoes & peas again in some oily water.
When I was in 8 months ago the dhal literally had formed a thick skin. Mmmm delicious!
The starters on offer were pre-bought samosas, spring rolls, potato wedges, potato slices & veg pakora. They did have some aubergine pakora slices which looked homemade tho. Chicken pakora, spicy drumsticks again looked pre-bought.
There was a small 'salad bar' featuring very watered down coleslaw, tinned sweetcorn, and some spicy lentils, basic sliced cucumber, tomato, shredded lettuce.
There was the usual array of rice, (oven) chips, various naans (rubbery) & poppadoms (soft rather than crisp, as if stale).
Dessert was the standard bought in cheap cheesecakes cut in miniscule slivers, jelly, mini supermarket doughnuts etc. The ice cream freezer needs replaced, as the handle has broken off, making it almost impossible to open without physically sliding the door with your hand flat on the surface.
Personally I never visited the toilets, but my mother did, and found them less than fresh/clean.
My mother had chicken pakora, chicken drumsticks, and some chicken curry which she said were tasty enough but nothing special.
Previously cutlery was available by the buffet, but this has now been removed, as if to discourage return visits and I had to request another set when my plate was cleared away.
The staff were friendly, and very efficient at clearing away used plates, it's just a shame the food doesn't match their standards. read more
