I was not happy with the staff at Dr. Maxson's office. I filed a complaint with Gastro Health's Corporate office. I was very unhappy with the professionalism of the office staff at the Gastro Health, Dr. Chester J. Maxson, 1002 South Old Dixie Hwy, Jupiter, FL 33458. His PA, and Office Manager would not help me to code my preventive colonoscopy with Dr. Maxson as a preventive service because they said I had non-cancerous polyps in the past. Because of the polyps they would have to code it diagnostic which would cost me $500 out of pocket. The Office Manager said to me if I didn't have the polyps I would get my money back. In my lifetime I have never received money back from a doctor's office or my insurance company. My comment was I doubt that very much. My Cigna policy allows me a preventive colonoscopy. I spoke to Cigna three times and spoke to my insurance agent and they both told me it's preventive and doesn't matter if I have had non-cancerous polyps in the past and that they should code it preventive. I had to read the definition of PREVENTIVE to the Office Manager. The Office Manager would not work with me or call Cigna to figure this out for me. She said if they coded it preventive that it would be fraudulent. She also told me that Cigna didn't know what they were talking about. I spent 4 upsetting days on the phone with the staff personnel. I asked Dr. Maxson's Assistant to have Dr. Maxson call me. The Office Manager called me instead of Dr. Maxson because she said it had to do with billing and he doesn't get involved in the billing. I was very upset as a patient I could not talk to my doctor. I was calling him to tell him I respected him as a doctor and wanted him to perform the colonoscopy as he did five years prior. Five years ago he had a very professional and compassionate staff. I wanted to let Dr. Maxson know I had to cancel my appointment and my husband's appointment because the difficulty of their staff not wanting to help me out. These staff members are working in the wrong field. They have no compassion for their patients and are just worried about coding. They didn't take the extra step to call my insurance company. I gave them the Truecare authorization telephone number so they could get the right preventive code and I assume they didn't because they were adamant to code it diagnostic.
I hope this matter is addressed with their office and Dr. Maxson. I would hate for someone else to experience the grief I had to go through for 4 days before preparing for my colonoscopy. As of today, September 30, 2022, I have canceled my colonoscopy for Oct 5 and my husband's appointment for November 29 and will never go back unless they change their staff to a more compassionate and professional staff. read more
