Inside, it is bright and has a nice, new, modern feel to it, while the selection of shops is okay, the giant square featuring Grande Arche and the Westfield Les 4 Temps across the way, one of my favourite malls worldwide makes it better. CNIT stans for Centre of New Industries and Technologies, it was one of the first buildings in La Defense which are the business area of Paris, I like to think of it as a Parisian Canary Wharf. I did find the lifts a little confusing and difficult to navigate at first. I did find the loud construction noises throughout during the daytime to be offputting, I get they have to do it sometime and it can be difficult with a hotel, but it just felt a little uncomfortable. The place is weird overall from having offices to shops and hotels, it isn't' HUGE but is a decent size, perhaps they're doing too much? 3* - A really nice building featuring some useful locations from Nespresso to Monoprix, and even a Hilton in a nice part of the city but it's only the start of your La Defense journey. They have free wifi, so the French employees don't even have to report to their offices to work. They just congregate at one of the coffee shops and then move to the next coffee shop where they can continue their social time - which by the way lasts until lunch when they go somewhere else to avoid their office. After a two hour lunch, they might just take the metro or train home, because they do have a grueling 30 hour work week to fake so that they can earn their 16 weeks vacation time. Thank god for socialism, because these overwrought employees only have to do this for 20 years before they get 100% pensions. Whew! what a relief. Almost every designer you can think of is here, making this a must-see and a must-shop when visiting Paris. And it doesn't stop inside Galeries Lafayette--the entire surrounding area has stores for days! Lights, glitz, glamour, luxury, and fashion everywhere you turn. It reminded me of an upscale New York City 42nd Street, but with that beautiful Parisian elegance. Even if you're not planning to shop, go for the experience. While malls die all over America, retail still thrives in Paris. Exhibit A: Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. I've been to this department store a number of times over the years, and I both enjoy it and fear how completely it can suck up precious vacation hours. It's a fantastic place to shop, with a ton of well curated inventory spread out across multiple floors in multiple buildings. The main building features that beautiful domed ceiling, which manages to catch me by surprise every time I walk in. I haven't had the opportunity to shop for my own clothes here in a long time, but I've gotten some really great stuff on the children's floor, and discovered the souvenir section on my last visit, where I picked up some cool Paris Metro toy trains and magnets. We did somehow get stuck at Galeries Lafayette for over two hours and ended up skipping Notre-Dame, which might have been a better place to spend our last afternoon in Paris. But it was sale season, and my kids look super cute in their heavily discounted Petit Bateau. Galeries Lafayette is busy and sometimes overwhelming, but it's a wonderful department store. I wish we had something like it back home. I'd much rather shop there than fall for targeted ads on Instagram.

Very poor selection, empty shelves, poor quality produce, especially fresh vegatables and poor selection of organic /bio products, especially the meat where we found no organic selection at all. Yes yes Paris has a boat ton of souvenir stores in the city, but this is different. This is classy and not for your fanny pack wearing cheesy tourists. That is why I loved it. The items are unique and dont' scream "I WENT TO PARIS". I ended up getting a 'niece' a kids book that explains the sights of Paris and other cool stuff with both French and English. Perfect! She sells gourgeous pillows, aprons, kid stuff, you name it; but all with a unqiue and classy flair. Great spot for a gift !
