I've never played the golf courses but I plan on it before I move. A lot to do here and the park district continues to update it and make it fun for the kids. It's recovering from serious flooding right now but it will be so beautiful this summer like every year. I love flagstaff and the waterfall and the twin caves and the rental boats in the summer. We use to come and feed ducks here when I was little but that is no longer allowed. It's definitely worth checking out!

Midway village is great. They have a free walking path and grassy field area open to the public,…read morewhich is beautiful in the spring, summer and fall. The walking path is about a mile around which is a great distance for us. They also have a veterans memorial off the side of the path. Next door they have a museum which I've never been to, but I have been to a wedding nearby and it was a really nice backdrop. I know they have lots of events here throughout the year, including a WWII re-enactment that people from all over the state and region come to. Definitely a place worth checking out.

There's also info about the history of the sock monkey and red heeled socks which are from Rockford, in addition to information about Camp Grant and other local history. We didn't go through the historical village part, but we did check out the dollhouse museum (apparently the collection of one person, but there wasn't really any information about them in the building and no one manning this space). The gift shop is small but well appointed (they need a penny smasher, though!) People can also rent spaces/venues here; there were two weddings happening here the day we were there! We love this location!…read more I've been going here off and on since I was a kid and used to beg my mom to come play in the kids area, pool and racquetball courts. As I got older I enjoyed the weight room, indoor track, sauna, and eventually, now that I have kids of my own, REALLY enjoy the daily childcare. There is truly something here for every age group. Not to mention the staff are over and above friendly and I feel like every time I come I'm family. When I was a kid I definitely took for granted how lucky we are to have a facility like this. I didn't know any different. But now after traveling a lot for work and using other Y facilities, I realize how great this location is--not to mention it's the 6th biggest one in the U.S.! They have lots of programs and classes for every fitness level if that is your thing, and have events throughout the year too. They do so much good for our community and my wife and I can't say enough good things about the Y. Plus it's very affordable for everything they offer. A membership here also entitles you to access several other Rockford Y facilities in addition to a majority of YMCAs around the country. We've been members at other health clubs/gyms around town but this is our favorite. We think everyone should be members!

This was a pretty good golf course, with a great deal to boot!…read more We went on a late Tuesday morning and ended up playing 9 holes. The course was having a special weekday deal apparently, a $1/person/hole or $2/person/hole/cart deal. So it would have cost 36 dollars total if we wanted a cart, but since we didn't it was only 18 bucks! We also got a tee time right away, but later on in the afternoon we started seeing a little congestion on the course. As for the course itself, it was a pretty good layout, with lots of long dogleg holes. I think there were only two Par 3 holes. There were few wooded areas and no water features, so it was rather easy to keep from losing many golf balls through the day. We only lost 1, between the two of us! There was also ice cold water in coolers after the fourth hole and then a couple holes later, which was nice. All in all, I think I would go back here again! Absolutely nothing wrong with this course, and a very low chance of losing balls (compare that to the Ledges)
