Basically it's the neighborhood general store that serves the Ho'olehua community, and if I'm correct, I believe it's the only store in the area. I guess the folks here probably appreciate this store, otherwise you would have to drive to Kaunakakai to do your shopping. The Kualapuu Market has a little bit of everything here, fresh meats, some produce items, and of course their dry goods. For entertainment, they also had a video shoppe which appeared to be dvd's which you can probably rent. I popped into this general store to take a little look around, as well as to pick up some drinks while we were driving around town. I love visiting local businesses in remote areas........... Need something and don't wanna drive all the way to Kaunakakai? There's another store in the Ho'olehua area. Check 'em out gang! No can go wrong!

Bing! Bing! Bing!…read more Any supermarket that has da gall to put up a Frrrrrrried Chicken Wing bar at the hot foods deli section will easily get a 5 star rating from Bruddah Fran!!! I'm known to cruise Safeway in Friday's, cuz Bruddah Fran digs da DEALAGES, but in my most recent adventures to the Hawaii Kai Safeway, I came across Safeway's Frrrrrrried Chicken Wing bar & decided to pick up a few wings for lunch. What can I say about the wing bar??? Da Frrrrrried Chicken Wing bar was nicely stocked, clean, & of course the wing bar had my two all time FAVORITE Frrrrrrried Chicken Wings - Da Salt & Vinegar Wings, and the Mango Habanero Wings!!! Had to pick between the two, so I mine as well get both, because making tough decisions like that can be too stressful for me! Buwahahahahaha! What can I say about the wings??? The Salt & Vinegar wings was outstanding! The wings were nice & crunchy with the right amount of seasoning to make your mouth pucker with joy! As for the Mango Habanero wings, if you like sweet & spicy, then this is the wing for you. I would say it would be best to get this wing made fresh, because if the wings were sitting in the sauce for too long, it make the wing texture soggy. I have gotten these wings from the deli dept., where the clerk made it fresh for me, and when I got the Mango Habanero wings fresh, the texture was excellent with the nice sweet & spicy taste. Ummmmmmmmmmm! Either way, both wings are excellent in my book, but if you're not into Frrrrrrried Chicken wings like Bruddah Fran, Safeway does offer an array of items you can buy fresh from da market!

We stopped by Richard's to grab a caffeinated beverage before starting our day exploring the island. I was impressed by this quaint little store that offered everything you need and a little more! They've been in operation since 1946 and are located on Dole Square where many of the island's businesses are concentrated. They offer a variety of fresh produce, meat, seafood, and pantry items. They also have a selection of prepared foods, gourmet wine, a poke counter and sundries. I came for the snacks (of course) and settled on their spam musubi. I don't know what they put in their musubi, but that thing was DELICIOUS! The rice is seasoned along with the spam and both together are a homerun. My only regret was only getting one :( All in all, this is a good place to stop and stock up on snacks, drinks, and other items.

We picked up a half-pound of Hawaiian-style spicy poke, which was super fresh with a nice kick of heat, and it paired perfectly with the furikake wonton chips we already had. Honestly such a great snack combo. We also grabbed a sushi tempura roll and were surprised by how good it was since we saved it for the next day for an early morning snorkel sesh: it was fresh, crispy, and filled with big chunks of shrimp, easily better than what some sit-down restaurants serve. The crispy Japanese sweet potato drizzled with a bit of honey was incredibly comforting and homey, and a nice balance of sweet and savory. We also tried the chicken katsu, which had a light, crisp breading and came with fluffy white rice topped with furikake. The side potato salad was refreshing with nice, chunky pieces of potato and not overly heavy. Perfect spot to grab quality food quickly before heading out to do other day-long activities. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and way above typical "market food." Would absolutely stop by again on future trips.
