my wife & i just returned from an eight day stay here. i want to be SUPER clear: the condo ITSELF (and the owner, who lived in the unit below) was AMAZING. this review concerns the COMPLEX and the BOARD/MANAGER. rather than take the time start from scratch, i'll simply re-print the two emails i sent them below: [EMAIL #1] I am a VRBO guest of on of your permanent residents (who is not responsible in ANY way for this issue) Last night after using the grill from around 7:15p - 8:00p - the grates of which for what it's worth i completely SCRUBBED clean before cooking rather than use the grease-covered tool provided! - I realized I had left my cell phone by the sink. I immediately returned to the pool, striding briskly since there were about 10-15 people using the pool at that time and I didn't want my phone to "walk away" before I was able to retrieve it. About ten feet past the gate I was suddenly knocked off my feet. After a moment I realized I just walked into a chaise lounge or a chair (it was so dark it was impossible to tell) that either had been pulled into the walkway by one of the pool-goers or had simply been left there earlier in the day. It took me a moment to regain my bearings - and try to find my now missing right flip flop - before continuing on to the sink to get my phone. Armed with my phone's flashlight app, I was able to find my other shoe as well and left for my room. This happen again TONIGHT when i was leaving the grill area with a tray full of food (after once again having to SCRUB the grill clean for ten minutes before I started cooking because of the shape it was in when I arrived). Once I reached the point about midway between the stairs to the grill area and the gate I could not SEE A THING. There were lounge chairs strewn about in my way, table and other obstacle and I had no way of seeing them. And because I was carrying a tray of food with two hands I had no way of lighting my way with my phone (which btw, IS NOT. MY. JOB.) One question: who on the board or on what planning committee decided/approved/allowed/etc NO LIGHTS in an area open until 9:00p FILLED WITH dark brown chairs, chaise lounges and tables which are virtually INVISIBLE once the sun sets?! Based on the parking situation I understand no one involved in these decisions is going to win any design awards, but you don't have to be Frank Gehry to know that lights are necessary in all public areas where people will be while it is dark (and I am aware of the "Night Sky Ordinance," I'm simply suggesting something like the mushroom lights already elsewhere on the property)! Set aside "doing the right thing by the condo owners," what about doing it out of self-interest, i.e. the massive potential liability issues you are opening yourselves up to? At this point, I am still pretty badly bruised in my lowers shin and ribs and am generally sore all over. Are the people who (most likely) dragged the chair into the path partially responsible for my injuries? Probably. A tiny bit. But their culpability PALES compared to those responsible for me not being able to SEE WHERE I WAS GOING because it was too dark! (And when I say, "dark" I mean you CANNOT see the furniture after 8:00p even if it is right in front of you.) I'd appreciate an explanation. It's the least you can do seeing as how I have/will be spending the rest of my vacation injured. Thanks in advance... [EMAIL #2] I just realized I misspoke below and wanted to be accurate. The initial incident occurred on Thursday, June 19th so I should have said "two nights ago" rather than "last night." Also, for what it's worth I also neglected to mention that last night as I was cooking at the grill a couple came out to the pool with a flashlight. A FLASHLIGHT. So I don't think I'm the only one who feels the area is in need of better (some? any?!) lighting. Just sayin.... these emails were sent on june 21st & 23rd and to date HAVE NOT BEEN RESPONDED TO. fortunately, once i returned home x-rays showed i "only" have bruised ribs which STILL hurt and per my doctor will probably continue to hurt for another few weeks. and so you don't have to take MY word for it, i've attached: a short video of the pool deck at the time i was hurt, starting in the dark, then turning on my phone's flashlight app to illuminate the surrounding area plus a photo of (allegedly banned) lights OUTSIDE the property illuminated at the time i was hurt & photos of the grill brush. again, i'm not suggestion the property install tall lights like the ones in the attached photo. small mushroom lights like they have elsewhere on the property would suffice. bottom line: know what you're getting into if you stay at this property. not only is the parking inadequate as a result of a botched "re-model" by the board (alluded to above) but the fact that neither the board nor the property manager had the courtesy to get back to me speaks VOLUMES about their feelings about the people who stay here. caveat emptor.

Due to a family reunion, we needed an extra place to stay when visiting most recently during July 2013. We loved the authentic worker-style cottage and property, very similar to our relatives' home just up the road, where we usually stay. What we liked: - Location: Remote and on the lush North (north!) Shore, directly across from the beach - Auntie, the owner, was patient and friendly through the reservation process and during the visit. She was very understanding when my lasy payment check didn't go through the first time, oops! - The simple interior and exterior of this cottage, which really lets you feel the "island lifestyle," - The kitchen had everything you need to cook real meals - Brand new washer and dryer. I am totally in love with this area of Kauai, it never gets old even after 20+ visits. If you are low maintenance, and like simple, affordable, authentic lodging and service, this is the place for you. Auntie even accommodated our young daughter stay for a very minimal additional charge, by providing extra bedding, and towels. I would definitely stay here again, and again, and again.

The sea lodge is a fantastic location in Princeville and after a whole bunch of research we found it was the best price with location of which you can see the ocean from almost all areas. They've got a cute little pool they keep the place spotless and we walk down to the beach which by the way I had just had both of my knees replaced and I'm a pretty big guy, but I was able to do it and down there. It's pretty amazing but you definitely wanna use walking shoes do not go down and flip-flops. Maybe bring a stick with you. We love the location close to Hanalei, which by the way if you want to go to for some great fish and chips pass, Hanalei is a place called Opakapaka Grill. Fantastic fish, and chips and fries! And decently priced beers. Anyway, the woman I dealt with at hysteria I believe her name was Gloria was just wonderful and was very proud of all the units that they manage.

Your marriage will thank you. This was our second trip in two months and we're already planning a trip back. Background: We've been wanting to check out Kauai. In the past three months we've stayed at the megas at Poipu, local places at Kapaa and by far the very best is Hanalei Bay. We looked at the megas and upon exploring via car we found the Hanalei Surfboard House (https://hanaleisurfboardhouse.com). We meant to do all of the hiking, snorkeling and events we did from the other two visits and somehow we just relaxed, swam in the Ocean and walked in the little town and went to local beaches. Hanalei Surfboard House: We stayed in the "Love Shack"! Wow how fun and what a charge! The outdoor shower is amazing although there is a full bathroom. The private patio is fabulous. I can't say enough about this great find. Simon the owner is a record producer, and the memorabilia in the Love Shack bungalow is worthy of a museum. The bedding was great and the bed fabulous. There is a really cool grounds kitty that may follow you to the beach. If you're not into cats she somehow knows as my husband is allergic to cats and she never approached him. We did stock up at Safeway and also we walked back into town with flashlights and tried some little restaurant of which there were many. We walked on the beaches and had morning coffee on the beach (which is across the street literally). We always felt perfectly safe and didn't feel like we were pushing the locals out. When you stay here walk down the beach to the pier as a fun jaunt.

A very bad experience with this company: We lived on the island for six years and have been coming…read morefor 37 -- and have rented from many different vacation rental rentals, so we do know what to expect. Very long story short: The minute we got there, we noticed a high-pitched whining noise that we at first thought was a water leak or break in the walls. This was at The Cliffs condo complex in Princeville, where we have stayed in years past. We initially called the property front office - who said that because we rented it from Aloha Rentals-- we had to contact them-- Which we did. Both the girl at the office as well as as a " repair man" that they sent over, insisted that the noise was coming from a rooftop exhaust fan on the building and that it was a normal noise and would go on and off (It never did). My husband is an engineer, and his perspective was that the fan needed repair- possibly a new bearing. Aloha told us that if we wanted to move, we could and they would give us a full refund -- They never offered to help us find another place. We know Kauai well, and it is absolutely impossible to find a vacation rental on short term notice-- and they knew this. So simply telling us to go leave and find something, without offering to help, was unbelievable. We literally had no choice but to stay there, so we did. But the incessant whining made it so that we did not want to be in the unit - when we were there, spent all of our time on the porch, where we could not hear it. When we returned home, I Called and spoke to the Cliffs front office, who were horrified to hear our story, And they said that no, the noise should NOT have been there at all and had they known about it, and the property was under their management - They would've fixed it immediately. They were also horrified to know that Aloha did not offer to help us find another location, and just told us to leave if we didn't like it. Aloha refused to give us any kind of refund at all - even after I said that the front office completely agreed with my husband (the engineer) that something would was wrong with it. NEVER rent from this company
