I ordered:
-Amok poisson- white fish, yellow coconut milk curry, basil, bamboo shoots, and bell pepper (cooked in banana leaves)
-Noodles sautéed with vegetables
-White rice
I also had one of my friend's spring rolls & tasted the sliced banana, tapioca, and warm coconut milk.
I was disappointed. The white rice was undercooked; the sautéed noodles were cold, oily, and had only a few bean sprouts and carrots by the way of vegetables; the banana dessert needed more sugar; and the Amok poisson could have been lovely if it weren't for a slight fishy wateriness that kept cutting through the flavors of curry and basil.
The spring roll was the best part of the meal - fresh, ingredients well-dosed. The servers were friendly enough, but I really didn't appreciate their **walking through the dining room at 10:30 pm, placing checks on the tables, saying "we're closing," and then dragging the trash bin and baskets through the dining room right in front of all lingering diners.** Chez Ama may not be in the center of Paris, but 10:30 is early--anywhere in France-- for kicking out customers.
I might come back, but probably not. Not when there are restaurants like Tamarind, whose red curry Amok poisson with sticky rice was a pure pleasure.
