We've been incredibly grateful for our experience with Mindful Arts Jiu Jitsu. I've seen a real…read moreshift in my son -- not just physically, but emotionally and behaviorally. His focus and attention have noticeably improved, and he carries a calm confidence home with him after class. Coach Gabe brings something rare. There is a playful, gentle way he connects with the children, while still holding strong boundaries. The kids genuinely adore him, but they also deeply respect and listen to him -- which speaks volumes about the safety and trust he creates. The mindfulness practices woven into the sessions are not just an "add-on," they are part of the training, and I can see how much they support the children's regulation, awareness, and self-control. What's most beautiful is the quiet transformation I'm witnessing -- growth that happens not through force, but through presence, consistency, and connection. It has been such a gift to witness this unfold, and to be part of a community of parents, children, and a coach who genuinely care. Honestly, it's so good that I feel inspired to join myself. Deep gratitude for this space and this work.

We have watched our child's confidence grow immensely thanks to jiujitsu practice and Gabe's leadership. Every class has a fun combination of training techniques, playful games, meditations and life lessons. I definitely recommend any parent to bring their children to experience a few classes and see what jiujitsu can do for their kids!

Traveling from Southern California and I wanted to get some last second training in. Aloha Roll was…read morea real treat getting my Jiu-Jitsu fix in, welcoming ownership and friendly instruction. Got to work on my truck transitions and had some fun rolls. Highly will come back again. I told the two Professors there I'd be back for Open Mat but missed out so hope they don't choke me out too bad next time when I revisit haha. Jokes aside, my encounters had no-ego, welcoming instruction and great learnings which is what I look for when training outside of other schools. Breakdown: I'm on vacation and didn't intend on training but I had the Jiu-Jitsu itch. I did a search on Yelp and decided between Aloha Roll Jiu-Jitsu and another school. I settled on Aloha because they had an earlier 9 am class on Friday and happened to be the closest to me. Once I arrived, a children's class was wrapping up and one of the students acknowledged me at the front desk and said in a welcoming voice and smile "He'll [Professor Gilberto] will be with you soon". Very telling of a great culture. Professor Gilberto was very friendly asking me where I'm coming from and train. He was really accommodating and checked me in, had me sign a waiver and then said the day fee which was $36 and some change with tax. It was a no-gi class and I didn't have a rashguard so he said I'm free to train in my shirt and athletic shorts if I was okay with it. He also gave the option of checking out the rashguards. There were no mediums left so I decided to train in my shirt. Professor Gilberto introduced me to Professor Joey who was instructing for the day. Professor Joey told me where I could but my belongings and shoe on their wooden slots, I lined up and class began where we bowed to a HD Screen of Grandmaster Helio and bowed to Professor Joey. He reviewed the leg drag from open guard and taught a leg drag setup into side mount into mount. I got paired up with a purple belt that was friendly throughout and gave me some details I was missing. After that side mount into mount that gets countered with a quarter guard which opens up for roll into truck position. Casual and friendly instruction style. Professor Joey came over during drills and offered a helpful detail of reaching for the opponent's leg to successfully roll into truck--that was invaluable. After drilling we did open rolls from a kneeling position. I rolled with my purple belt training partner and he was smooth in his roll and helped progress positions without ego or strength. Professor Joey was my second roll and he rolled the same way. Both taking it light but challenging and matching my moderate intensity. Rolled with a teenaged age white belt at the end. He was much smaller than me so I used this as an opportunity to focus on technique. He pushed the pace throughout and was a fun roll allowing me to practice minimal force in defense off his intensity. After the class I grabbed my belongings and Professor Joey jogged over to me and asked if I was leaving. I said I was going to head out to start the day and he was friendly and saw me out saying he hopes I enjoyed the class. Professor Gilberto was at the front desk and remembered my name saying it was a pleasure to have me. Definitely enjoyed class and learnings. Will come back in the future to get some open mat time which I told professors I'd be at. The next ones!
