Highly recommend Professor Grandi! I stopped in while visiting from out of town and booked a private lesson. We worked on several escapes from side control (including one the slides into a sweet submission), a guard pass that leads to a submission (so good I won't give it away here), two variations of back escape, a mount escape I haven't seen before, and some positional sparring. Very warm and welcoming for out of town visitors. read more

Cristian is amazing with all the keiki. He takes his time to make sure that each keiki understands the technique being introduced and provides them time to practice while he watches to ensure techniques/steps are done correctly. read more

The owner/professor is very professional, honest and kind. This will be my go to when I come to Maui!

We had planned on dropping in for a class but a little altercation with some coral put that plan on hold. Stopping by the school to catch the end of a class was still a great idea as Professor Christian Grandi was so friendly and inviting. While his guys rolled he sat and talked to us about their training schedule, the school in general and various other things. Our family felt very welcomed by everyone there and we can just tell that they are the type of Jiujitsu family we would like to spend our time with here. It was very apparent that safety for his students is number one to Christian. We watched him correct/adjust his students along they way as they grappled. We were very impressed by the atmosphere and environment, it felt like home. read more

Thank you to Christian and the 10am folks for welcoming my daughter Maddy onto the mat! Everyone was kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable in teaching and partnering. We come to Maui as often as possible and we'll easily be back to this studio! read more

Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu - Jiu Jitsu - Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

Visiting from Austin and wanted to roll while on vacation. I mainly do no gi so only am going on no gi days. I love this school. They are just ramping up post covid and so the class sizes are running around 10-12. This is amazing compared to my usual class sizes of like 40. The instruction is very personalized, sometimes almost like a private or small group lesson. I wouldnt expect this long term as maui starts to open up. Christian teaches some classes himself and even when he isnt, he will chime in. You can ask questions and he will show techniques. He and the other instructors have already helped with a bunch of holes in my game in a way that huge classes just can't really do. I highly recommend the school to visitors and locals. read more

Wonderful time on the mat today with Coach Christian Grandi. Early morning session, he was really flexible about working around his schedule. Very detail and observant, corrected any flaws my technics. Spent most of the time training with my back on the mat, 5-6 technics. THANKS FOR A GREAT SESSION, CHRISTIAN! read more

Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu - Great Private Session. Thank you much, Christian Grandi !! - Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

While on vacation in Lahaina, I stopped by to see the school. Professor Christian invited me on the mat to train with them. Of course, I didn't have my belt or gi with me, but they provided a loner for me to use. It was nice to do a little rolling between ocean swims and waterfall hikes. Good group of guys. read more

Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu - Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

Best Jiu jitsu school hands down in Maui. My daughters have been training here for over 2 1/2 years and I trust Christian 100%. He is very cautious, respectful and very good at what he does. My husband has been training with him for 11 years. He teaches respect, passion and is the real deal. This is as real as it gets. You want to learn Real Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, this is definitely the place to come. He makes sure his students give respect in and out side the mats. He has a lot of passion for his kids and adults alike. His gym is clean and also provides cold water. He takes visitors happily and welcoming with open arms. He has taught my daughters confidence and am so grateful for that. read more

Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu - Awesome morning class with a bunch of great guys on Halloween 2016!!! - Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

I have trained at this Carlson Gracie school under Christian quite a few times now while on vacation in Maui. My bjj lineage is under a Carlson black belt, Murilo, so this was the 1st school I tried out while there. And I always go back to it. Christian is awesome and gives out just enough instruction to keep the class learning as well as in a light mood. I remember rolling with him, he goes just enough to let you work but when it's time to dominate, he can. The students there were great. Each time I've been it has been a few of the same regular students but also a mix of new students. It has a great, friendly atmosphere. I also appreciate acknowledging Master Carlson before and after class as well. So if you live on Maui or are planning a vacation there, you ought to drop by Christian's school. He's a legit Carlson Gracie black belt and a friendly guy. He may even invite you over for dinner or to go surfing. If you are driving that main road between Lahaina and Kaanapali, it is up on the hill, or across the street, from the cannery mall. At least it used to be. Steve Larsen read more

Stopped by to train here while on vacation in Maui. All the people here are real nice, and the jiujitsu is top notch. They'll even provide a gi for you in case you accidentally on purpose forget to bring yours. :-P I wish I had more time to train with these guys while in Maui. I'll definitely stop by again next time I'm in Maui. read more

I love to travel, and when I do, I always train wherever I go in this world. It's nice to find schools that are so welcoming when you are just a tourist. The instructor here is very knowledgable but also very personable and friendly as well. I will definitely tell all my friends to come here when they visit the island. I would recommend this school to anyone of any age, gender, or size :) read more

I was hoping to get a roll in on vacation and thankfully found 808 Jiu Jitsu and Master Christian. He has classes everyday in the morning and night with both gi and no gi. Found him to be a perfect instructor and leader and would train at his academy if I lived in Maui. The other students were all levels and friendly training partners. looking forward to returning on my next visit. If you need a break from the family, come train at 808 BJJ, to help you relax. Christian was very welcoming. We're just visiting from LA and wanted to have a little training while we're on vacation. I'm glad we chose this school. took a gi class while on vacation and it was great. Class started with stretching, the techniques and then sparring. very welcoming and friendly for drop ins. Christian is very knowledgable and very clear in his instruction. I think half the class was drop ins from different parts of the country. Students in class included every rank from black to white. Parking was easy and easy to get to location. read more

I took a morning class with Christian and his team. He asked me what I was having trouble with and we drilled those techs. I rolled with most everybody in the class once. Higher belts were kind enough to really work through moves with me and Christian made sure to start me in positions I had asked him questions on during class. It was a great experience as a Jiu-Jitsu tourist it was one of the better experiences I've had. read more

My son Zolten started Jiujitsu at Carlson Gracie just after turning four. He will be five 7/11/13. I thought this MIGHT be a good idea for him, it has turned into one of the best decisions I have made for him. I can assure you that I am an extremely protective father. If there was anyone other than Christian running the class I doubt my son would still be participating. Christian has the perfect balance of toughness as well as caring. My sons confidence has blossomed. He also demonstrates greater focus , coordination and balance than should be expected of a four year old. If I had the opportunity to add five more stars I defiantly would. read more

Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu is the best gym on Maui. The classes are very well structured and you always learn something new while still building upon the core foundational movements. Many different belts to spar with. It is a tight knit community here who all train hard and help eachother a long the way. I came on vacation and brought my gi specifically to train again with these guys. I highly recommend you do the same. Even if you don't bring a gi, stop in on a no gi day read more

This is definitely the best school on Maui. The professor is an amazing instructor that is a Black Belt directly under the Great Carlson Gracie Sr. and is very passionate about not only Jiu-Jitsu as a means of self defense but also as a lifestyle, inspiring responsibility, honesty and integrity. Students that choose to learn from Professor Christian will learn so much that they can keep for the rest of their lives. An excellent academy! - Tom Cronin read more

3 years ago when my mom passed away I needed something to keep me busy away from work. I was instantly hooked. I gave up drinking and I gave up smoking and whatever stopped me from training jiu jitsu. The presence of having a great instructor is essential in learning anything. You have the opportunity to train the best martial art with the best instructor. He gives quality techniques and ensures the training environment is quality.what is nesisary is kept and everything else is discarded. My greatest concern in learning any martial art is safety. Christians eye is like a hawk for safety and improper techniques. The teammates are like a family. I recommend this school for kids and adults. read more

Unbelievable experience with a world class jiu jitsu practitioner. Honored to share the mats with Christian and if you are ever in Maui it is a must. Great Rolls with Great People. Can't wait to come back. read more

Visited on a rainy day on my vacation. The school is well located in Lahaina, close by to a number of hotels and tourist attractions. Everyone in the school was friendly and ready to give you a good training session. They were humble even after I got tapped out multiple times by them, and helped me figure out some counters to the techniques that they caught me with after class. Christian Grandi teaches a good mix of self defense and sport jiu jitsu. All the essentials you need from a school were there: shower on premise, mats cleaned after class, mix of drilling and live rolls. Overall: great experience, and I recommend people vacationing nearby to visit to train! read more

Great training! I dropped in for a no-gi class, Professor Christian and his students we very welcoming. Professor took us through warm-ups then showed a kimura to choke sequence. At the end of class he answered some questions about specific positions. I stuck around for the 4 rounds of sparring afterwords. Training partners were great! Great place to train when in town. Professor Grandi is very hands on and looks out for everyone's safety. It's a small venue and almost like getting a private.
