They provide activities for the children and guided tours at Cheatham groove. Their Jr Ranger classes are very educational. Ranger Kevin makes the classes very exciting. His enthusiasm makes you want to like insects. Also, it's awesome to learn about the redwoods. The campsites are very small and are close to each other. Some sites are right next to the road. The road is kinda scary, so I do not recommend the sites next to the road. The traffic noise wasn't bad. They have two restrooms with 3 stalls for both women and men. The restroom farther from the visitor center has 2 coin operated showers. So don't forget to bring quarters.

My destination was the Tall Tree, and I passed miles of banana slugs, moss, lichen, spring wildflowers, and the refreshing surge of Bull Creek with its turquoise hues. The park was far from crowded, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Park Staff tending the maintenance needs (weed abatement). I felt safe & incredibly relaxed on the trail. There are over 100 miles of trail in this park and plenty of river access, providing something for everyone. If you only drive through the Avenue of the Giants, it will be time well spent in this gorgeous paradise.

The overlook has a big grassy area and a few picnic tables. On the day we went there was only one other car in the parking lot. On the north side of the parking lot is additional trails through a fenced area where farm/grazing animals are kept, it looks like there was a slide into the ocean as part of the barbed wire fence is dangling above the beach below. Be careful around here as there were some visible cracks in the earth above the slide area so I quickly backed away from the edge. Worth the drive for a picnic or a breather, I'm sure the beach below is beautiful as well. But with any ocean cliff environment, always be safe.

The river is mostly hidden behind trees, and the path runs right past a scrap yard--complete with old machinery and piles of metal. To top it off, there was dog waste everywhere. Does no one clean up after their pets here? On the way back, we decided to try heading south from the Lodge instead. That section was much nicer--better views of the river and some pretty mountain scenery. Unfortunately, there was still plenty of dog waste (and even horse waste), but at least the surroundings were more enjoyable. An okay trail, but I wouldn't go out of my way to check it out.

There is a covered picnic table and a couple was there enjoying a nice lunch overlooking the water so it has a nice view. Note that this is the only bench area that I saw along the trail. There is plenty of parking. This trail is near restaurants and hotels in the area, making it convenient to get to. The trail is dog friendly. Cons: There is dog poop along the trail like others have mentioned. The river is mostly hidden behind the brush and trees. The pathway is somewhat narrow IMHO. Not a lot of places to sit and enjoy the view along the pathway.

Amazing and gigantic trees, lots of ferns, wild berries, moss and a beautiful stream. After driving most of the day, it was great to get out to walk the dogs, let them walk in the creek. What an amazing day. Drive was long but the reward was seeing all the nature and being in sync with the universe, it was worth it.
