How unfortunate for me I did listen to Penner's counsel and I signed a stipulation which became an…read morecourt order. I learned it is illegal to negotiate a stipulation without the client taking part. After Penner I was unrepresented a few months before I had a new attorney. Penner's stipulation moved non trust assets into the trust which gave a bias trustee power over them. Because both parties and judge signed the stipulation it became set in stone - could not be modified. The one year statute of limitations on malpractice protects bad attorneys. A WARNING to others DO NOT SIGN anything your attorney asks you to sign - especially if they press you, scare you or hurry you. You have a lot of time to have one or two attorneys read it - there is no rush. So the lesson is to hire a second attorney to watch the first attorney to make sure they don't sabotage your case.

After 7 years of on-and-off family court litigation, and a prior…read moreattorney lacking experience/spread too thin, I found an attorney who could identify the issues and patterns, and speak for us effectively. Marcus is highly responsive, and his communications are brief, direct, and clear. The pleadings he personally wrote were excellent. He helped bring longstanding patterns of harmful behavior to the court's attention and secure an outcome that better protects our daughter, including increased physical custody and legal tie-breaking authority for me. He was also able to prevent a frivolous evidentiary hearing requested by the co-parent, which was a huge savings of resources that would have again been unnecessarily spent. I noticed a meaningful difference between his own writing and those prepared by his team, particularly in the clarity and depth of the arguments. This is normal for an experienced professional vs one who is learning. For a complex case, I would recommend requesting his final review of all pleadings. Family law representation is expensive, the financial burden is significant. I appreciated that Marcus kept our work focused on the facts, legal issues, and decisions that mattered. His style is practical and direct; he offers legal guidance rather than extensive emotional reassurance. For me, that focus helped make productive use of our time and resources. As for any engagement with a professional, I recommend you discuss budget and scope at the outset so that there is mutual understanding. I am deeply grateful for his advocacy and what it has meant for our daughter and our family. We finally have peace in our lives, thanks to Marcus.
